  1. Finally I have a full internet connection again today.

I have just uploaded FE1 modifications of Ojcar's Armchair Aces 1916 1.3 and 1917 1.2 as per Ojcar's latest revisions.

They may not show for awhile. Look for the latest version numbers in the Campaign download section.

Any problems with this lot, let me know here. I feel confident all will be ok.

Now to get on with modifying his latest 1918 version.

    Cheers Grinseed

  2. I flew a couple of those this morning for the Austrian side and was pretty surprised that I managed to knock out some Archie with my machine gun. In reality was that possible? I figure if I hit the ready use ammunition it might have been.

Knocking out Archie units with a handful of bullets or destroying trucks likewise never seemed too realistic to me and a few months back I was trying to strengthen ground objects by adding armour parameters in the data.inis for them. I did succeed with help but as I was preparing to move house I never, completed the task fully and then I got caught up modding Ojcar's AA series for FEG just before I did move.

I am still not organized enough yet to restart or finish either project, so I will direct you to this thread:

    http://combatace.com/topic/69757-harder-ground-objects/page__p__544336__fromsearch__1#entry544336

in which I outline how to toughen up ground objects.

Smoke me a kipper I'll be back for breakfast.

    Cheers Grinseed

  3. I'm sorry, Grinseed, but I think you have the same bug in your FE1 versions too!!!!

    And coming soon......Armchair Aces 1918!

I have just got online today on a temporary set up for the first time in almost a month. Ojcar, I will re-edit the FEG AA 1917 and prepare a FEG version of the 1918 AA.

However, I have undergone some serious RL changes in the past couple of weeks and still have some very important personal duties to attend to, so I may not get any these edits done for at least another month yet, but they will get done, cause I cant wait to get back into the virtual blue again.

  4. OK problem fixed.

On start up I was getting a message about a disc not being found: Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameters 756bf7c 4 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c.

This I learned later, usually indicates a usb device has been removed without following the safe removal procedure. However it did not appear at every start up, at least, I dont recall it do so. As it referred specifically to a disc I did not relate it to my FE problem, so I cancelled it, with the intention to fix it later.

When I did investigate it I was still stumped because I havent attached/removed a usb device in a long time. Then I learn my daughter attached her usb scanner/printer to my computer and removed it, in my absence.

    The Solution:

"... run "regedit" then follow this

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows] then find the name ErrorMode and change its value data by doing right click on the errormode itself and change value date from 0 to 2..."

Issue fixed. FE and FE2 reloaded. Flying and dying over Flanders again.

To extremeone, I had typed the following before the info above came to light. I'll leave it here for you, afterall you have spent sometime in trying to help me fix it.

    My current computer is a P4 2.80GHz 2GB ram.

The vid card is an ATI Radeon 9600/X1050 256Mb.

I'm afraid I havent been clear enough in my other posts. I have loaded and run FEG and FE2 (and SF1Gold, WoV and WoE) on it but I found FEG gave a better response framewise with Jan Tuma's seasonal terrain and with nearly all the graphic options set low. Its not perfect but I'm a RB3d refugee and the graphics look great anyway.

The ATI card is included in the legacy list of drivers at the ATI site. I have a permanent copy of it and the instructions for replacing or refeshing drivers which includes clearing out the registry of older references before reloading. I checked the ATI site and the driver still hasnt been updated.

The dxwebsetup confirmed that the loaded Directx 9.0c 4.09.0000.0904 was the correct and latest version available for my computer.

Lately I have loaded some old games from GOG but these are updated to run with XP and later OS.

Anyway, thanks for your input extremeone.

    Happy Landings everyone else.

    Cheers Grinseed

  5. Thanks for your response extremeone, I do appreciate it.

I have already done all you have suggested except the MS Net Framework and Java reloads, which I havent ever had to do before. (btw the voices.yahoo link didnt connect me to anything).

I made mention of FE2 only in regard to a new computer with DX10. FE2 fails to run on my current computer too.

I suppose I will give it all another try later. Yesterday was a frustrating time as you can imagine. I took the dog for a walk. That was good. Today I have to make an inventory for the moving company.

I really want to get this resolved, FE really is the best WW1 flight sim imo; its my favourite hobby. I really want to finish that Armchair Aces series too.

The new computer is still an option. For the first time I can afford a top end machine with ramped up graphics and extra grunt.

    Cheers Grinseed

  6. Ok, well, I've done all I can at my end to get the game working, but I still only have a black screen, even when I load SFG.

Something in my system - no bugs or viruses says the virus checker, the card - working fine say the system, the harddrive - everything else works, a driver - everything up to date, I dont know it is but it just I cant access any thirdwire game at all.

Everything else including other games are fine, which is really weird. Anyway the upshot is not only that I cant fly FEG, I cant edit and test the last instalment of Ojcar's Armchair Aces either (when it comes out) until I get this sorted.

But in a way its a timely inconvenience. After a prolonged delay I am now only two weeks away from moving house and I still havent got much packed yet (or thrown away), so now I dont have FE as a distraction anymore...and I've been eyeing a new rig recently which I am now sorely tempted to buy. I'd have to learn the ways of FE2, but that will probably be a lot easier than trying to solve my current problem.

    Cheers Grinseed

  7. Suddenly, FEG doesnt load when I click on the start emblem.

All I get is a black screen.

And when I call up the windows task manager the screen still remains black.

I can see the FEG game and the task manager symbols at the bottom of the screen but no FEG menu screens.

I renamed the FE folder and loaded a fresh version of the game but it made no difference.

I guess I might have to delete both old and new versions and start afresh. I dont mind doing this but if someone can suggest a simpler fix I be very glad to hear it.

Everything else, including other games and the internet still work fine. I just get this black screen when I open the game.

    Cheers, a bewildered Grinseed

  8. It' s up.

1917 includes four variants of the Albatros D series fighters as found as stock aircraft in First Eagles 2.

Read the readmes as usual. My readme has a specific number of instructions, including some data changes for the stock FE1 Albs, but you need to read and follow Ojcar's readme to make it all happen.

Thanks to Ojcar and to 33Lima and Wrench for advice too.

This is really proving to be a great series which I am finding a joy to fly, however I lost my first pilot the other night...very sad...he was a 7 victory 1915 ace, killed flying a Morane Saulnier in a unfortunate bump with his Eindekker opponent (he zigged, I zagged)...crate caught fire, managed to land in open field, but succumbed to the effects of the blaze. Better luck to you all.

    Happy Landings and Cheers

  9. Ojcar's Armchair Aces 1917 1.2 for FE1

    View File

The third in Ojcar's great Armchair Aces series.

Included are four new variants of the Albatros D series fighters as found in the FE2 stock aircraft.

You will need Armchair Aces 1915 1.1 and 1916 1.2 already loaded.

    Read the readmes.

    Cheers and Happy Landings

Version 1.2 Corrections to airfield names to allow enlistment as Belgian pilot as per Ojcar's edit to the original.

  10. I have uploaded the correct FE1 version of Ojcar's Armchair Aces 1916 to replace the FE2 version I uploaded in error.

The correct version is available for downloading, thank you for that, but the older incorrect version still shows. My bad for not uploading as a new version.

Is it possible to delete the old version to avoid inevitable confusion, or must it stand as a monument to my incompetence? :)

I'll take my stripes if I have to.

    Cheers Grinseed

  11. Ojcar's Armchair Aces 1916 1.3 for FE1

    View File

    Ojcar's Armchair Aces 1916 1.2 for FE1

The second in Ojcar's Armchair Aces Series modified for use with First Eagles 1.

Instalation is straightforward with only one difference in the preparation of the Strutters. Read both readmes to learn how to add three new aircraft to your hangar collection. You will need the practice for the forthcoming 1917 version.

Reverential hat tip to TK. Gratitude to Canadair for the batch file converter (see readme). Many thanks to Sinbad for permission to use and modify his Strutters. Salute to Ojcar for a great series.

Any problems, contact me via the forum. This download wont harm your computer, but it just might devour all your free time as you fly and die in 1916.

    Cheers and Happy Landings

21 April 2012 I have uploaded the correct FE1 version to replace the FE2 version originally uploaded in error.

Version 1.3 Corrects airfield names to allow enlistment as Belgian pilot as per Ojcar's edit of orginal version.

  12. Thanks for the reassurance whiteknight

Not so surprising I think. I download new file entries as soon as they hit the deck, but I dont have the time to try them all immediately. It might take weeks before I get to run them.

Thanks again to paul for pointing out my blunder. Watch me closely, its likely to happen again, lol.

    Cheers Grinseed

  13. Well, Paul, you are a great Observer. Thank you.

I have indeed uploaded the 1916 FE2 version which resides right next to my 1916 FE1 version.

Will someone PLEASE call me a stupid bugger so I can move on?

Red-faced and sincere apologies to the 25+ people who have downloaded the file.

I will rectify the problem right now. You will be able to check you have the correct version as I have added my own readme and the 1B2 has its own hangar screen.

    I need a secretary.

    Cheers Grinseed

...some feverish minutes later...ok I have uploaded the correct version and it is awaiting approval....and in my part of the world it is 21 April...Salute to Manfred von Richtofen.

  14. Gepard, it was more than just the cat file link that I missed.

Apparently , last year, during my second rebuild of First Eagles, l forgot to load your Vogesen terrain before adding Tuma's modification

This morning I took a long leisurely delightful flight in a Fokker DII around those beautiful cities and castles. Its now a good opportunity to thank you for that stunning terrain.:salute:

    Cheers Grinseed

  15. I've prepared Ojcar's Armchair Aces 1916 1.2 for FE 1.

    Cambrai and Verdun work fine.

    With Vogesen I have trouble.

Firstly if I open the planning map I CTD

If I ignore the planning map I can access the mission and open the map in flight, but there are no airfields. I take off from empty fields and none show on the inflight map.

I confess I havent flown much at all in Vogesen.

    Have I missed something?

    Cheers Grinseed
