would have been great to write some music for them. -
Is P4 getting a sound overhaul?
matt milne replied to redpiano's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
It takes a lot of adjusting, you're used to doing things a little bit differently, and off is a separate and different experience. We have current and former rof players, who i'm sure can help you to adjust. -
Is P4 getting a sound overhaul?
matt milne replied to redpiano's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
sound editing is tough even for an expert. I've heard professional games with much poorer sound quality and obvious looping, said games have still won awards for best sound. Anywho, several things you can try, headphones no matter the quality are a poor way to listen to sound, they prevent natural decay and over expose everything. try limiting or expanding the dynamic range in your system audio settings, and lower the overall sound volume. Play around with the treble, and bass settings to compress the sound a little. From experience, engines are especially difficult to record and edit. Each engine produces its own series of clicks and clunks and the pitch varies widely at any level. Usually recorded outdoors or in sheds and hangars, far away from the pure and deadened environment of a studio. I've found that you need a long section of audio, and then have to smooth it out and perform different passes to filter out some of the variations. Even still with pitch set to throttle speed, an inaudible rumble at idle, can become a high pitch click at speed. it's a tough one. Normally in films they only show short sections at mid-level, and looped sounds get shoved to the back as much as possible. -
Probably belongs in the pub, but I just wanted to say a big thank you to the folks at combatace for hosting us for the last 3 years. around about this time in 09, we were asked to leave the previous forum hosts, combatace graciously agreed to take us on, and its been our home ever since. So here's a big thank you to combatace, from all the fans and users of off.

Yea, flight sims are a tough niche market to develop for. Ideally there should be a wide selection of planes, flight physics, a campaign with a fully immersive world, with multi-player. All planned in a clear gameplay and developmental direction. Those are the basics. But each developer has different ideas and not all these essential features are included in the initial release. Every gamer has a particular list of things they want and expect from a game, and not everything on that list will be in every game. Also some things that one person thinks are essential, other people might dislike in their game, so the developer has a hard time picking and choosing the right things to develop. Also, haphazard and rushed development with a lack of testing time, causes a lot of bugs. If the industry was in a better shape, developers could afford to spend 8 years designing and testing every aspect of their game, gradually evolving it into the product they want before releasing. There's too much debt and too much of a rush to make those repayments. It's a downward spiral consisting of borrowing, to work, to pay off debt, to borrow, to work, to pay off more debt, resulting in even more debt. It's just not good.

Everyone still in Christmas Coma here?
matt milne replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
First film of the year tomorrow. nice little 28-minute thing. already pre-approved for 3 festivals, so no pressure. Took an extra week off to recharge scoring abilities, ready to start now. -
Yes, happy new year. May this year be the best year yet.

sad to lose such a great actor.

Codemasters average credit list runs at 200+ names. That's a lot of mortgages to be paying during an economic crisis, particularly on projects that won't make it to print. unfortunate for the job losses, but downsizing is not a bad idea for cm.

* * PHASE 4 PREVIEW MOVIE 1 ! * *
matt milne replied to Polovski's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
That's one of the weaker tracks of the score. when you hear the whole score, bear in mind it was written, produced and recorded in 6 days. -
people will ask me who wrote the music for a film I've scored. my name appears in two-feet high letters in both the titles and 2 or 3 times in the credits.

OT Annoying Windows 7 hassle
matt milne replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
windows 7 is plagued with instability issues and general inconveniences. Have you checked the services to make sure nothing internet or network related is set to manual. Sometimes basic services can be taken off automatic meaning you have to do something that maually starts it, as the device can't be detected until that service is started. With the company's original founders and revolutionary design team long gone, Microsoft is a different company. Apple are making a comeback but they have the same problem. -
ROF Announces Career Mode
matt milne replied to Herr Prop-Wasche's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
competition is vital to the survival of the industry. where there are only one or two games in a genre, there's usually only enough money to support one. Put blunty, players are better served supporting the best product and the best developer. 777 has confirmed what i've been saying for 3 years. if it isn't in their business model, it's not going to happen. There has been a recent push to get the final rof features out, there could be another rof in the works, but more likely it's something else. -
ROF Announces Career Mode
matt milne replied to Herr Prop-Wasche's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
pretty much agree with above. full-blown dynamic, immersive sp wasn't really part of the piecemeal, always on-line business model rof was planned along. rof is intended for mp 40-player dogfights in ww1 crates, that's how it will stay. 777s approach to game design and development, has to radically alter to produce something deeper. -
I always use two soft kitchen paper towels. one dry, the other damp. take the damp one and gently pull over the screen in one direction. immediately take the dry one and do the same to dry off the residue. Lcds and plasmas are trickier, as you need to gently wipe without applying pressure to the screen in any way. never leave a damp screen to dry in air as the minerals in water will leave marks. use water only, as ordinary glass and pastic cleaners are corrosive and abrasive and will damage, scratch or mark the screen.

the score is in the process of being completed, that's all you're getting for now.

OT: Ubisoft creating a brand new IL-2 Sturmovik game
matt milne replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
potential is nothing if the devloper isn't prepared to realise it. Great project management is crucial in a complex title, from the publisher right down to the last programmer. Sounds promising, but we'll have to wait and see. -
OT: What's your 2011 game "Must Have" list?
matt milne replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
cities in motion. paradox have paid attention to detail and some complexity, can't wait for that. I finally laid my hands on trainz 2010 ee, am waiting on disk. slim pickings this year. -
The P4 score is planned in full, as a full score. At present only the first of the new tracks is completed, the rest to follow end of the month/february. P3 players have been catered to as the p3 theme features as a sub-theme of the p4 score, you'll have to listen out for its many appearances.

Somebody else complained that they couldn't see any changes to cfs3 after installing bhah, all they'd done wrong was not play cfs3 for a couple of minutes before installing so the changes hadn't been registered properly. If you don't see all the features listed, it's likely a failed or incorrect installation. See faqs, tips and other instructions for re-installing hitr.
