Nice find Lou, have a great time with your new toy! I hope to see pics of your progress. I often wonder how OVS is doing on his Nova. I keep looking for my dream a 1967 Pontiac GTO. I will find one some day, but they are getting rather pricey. Keep us posted on your progress. Best Wishes John -
Amazing Dej I love how the propeller is blurred very nice lighting, a truly fabulous picture.

The Stand: Frank Luke's Final Flight
Mr_Dirt replied to Javito1986's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I own a copy of the book and have read it. I feel the author does a very good job of presenting and defending his theory of Frank Luke's last flight. He also does a good job detailing Frank,s to short life. I feel if Frank Luke could have curbed his risky fighting style he would have beat Captain Eddie as America's ace of aces. The other books you mentioned are very good reads too. I have had a fascination with Frank Luke since I first started reading about WWI aviation. Another good person to ask about this book is JFM. I felt the author did some very thorough research for this book. The book is very large and well constructed, it also has many photos. I enjoyed it very much even at the $75.00 I spent for it. The author signed my copy and sent a photo of the town that Luke was taken to after his death. as the gentlemen above said the DVD describes the author's research into Luke's final flight. Happy hunting John -
Very nice piece of art Dej! Very nice indeed.

Paul Blum's Story: A BHaH Pilot's Saga
Mr_Dirt replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Excellent as usual Lou. I just finished reading "Eleventh Month, Eleventh Day. Eleventh Hour" by Joseph E, Persico. I got the impression that class distinction in the British Army became blurred in the trench as the war prolonged. Am I wrong to assume this? The book did not cover the German side as well so I could get no feeling as to how class distinction went. I felt it was a shame how the allies wasted so many lives on the last day for ground that would be theirs by the ruling of the armistice after German forces withdrew. Stupidity of people in high places never ceases to amaze me. I also just realized that your young hero is from the same Kingdom in Germany that my Great-Grandfather immigrated from in 1853. So I now have a person connection to young Paul. I thank Olham for translating a piece of my family history, that is why I know where my family immigrated from. Happy hunting Paul and my your landings always be soft and right side up. Thanks and peace be with you John -

What started your WW1 aerial interest?
Mr_Dirt replied to DukeIronHand's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
My interest was sparked by the fact I enjoy History even as a small boy. I read the book "Iron Men Wooden Wings" around the age of 10. I then started reading any thing on WWI pilots I could get. Like JFM the Royal Guardsmen tune "Snoopy vs The Red Baron" led to a search for more information about the Red Baron. Then a boardgame company came out with Richthofen's War and I was hooked on WWI aviation games. I then progressed to the computer and brought "Knights of the Sky" . I then brought every WWI flight sim I could find. I ended up with Red Baron modified with "Full Canvas Jacket" and another Modification I cannot remember. I had some problems running it and found OFF #1 to download and here I am today. What fun it has been! I have never lost my admiration for those men flew these box kites in combat. John -

Sorry for you I too know what it is like to be unemployed at 55 yo. I spent six years in pharmacy school at the age of 42. It was great for 8 years. Then Nov of 2009 came around in the same week I learned I would have to have a double bypass on my heart and my pharmacy was closing in 4 days so I would not have any insurance unless I paid $1500.00 dollars a month. My wife's work allowed her to put me on her insurance so that helped. I became a pharmacist so I wouldn't have trouble finding a job. I was out of work for a year just went back to work for some great people. I will pray the same happens for you gentlemen. I know it sucks when you have to scramble to make ends meet. Hoping for the best for you john

Congratulations Tranquillo, now enjoy your first Christmas together!

Glad to hear about the Nova, but I bet it will be cold only a high in the teens here in Mo today with high winds sure is nasty outside. I bet Lou and the fellows up north are really getting it I saw where the Metrodome roof collapsed last night. I could be president in a game they play, you have to escort the president from one end of the field to the other without him being shot. I would rather do the sniping I think never liked politics. You are right BH about how you cannot get someone to play dead when the fun is on, but most honor the rules and respawn. Like you also said if they do not you sure get shot up at full automatic. Ovs they have talked about the claymore I would not be surprised to see one this year maybe. I tell them BH not to forget the men and women who have served their countries so they may play soldier. I was born on Dec 7 and when people wish me happy birthday I tell them to think of the men who died that day instead. It is my small way of getting people to think about the cost of Freedom. Thanks John

OVS they get some whelps we they fire at each other to close plus many times it is hot and their arms are bare. No it is airsoft their playing. They have some very realistic guns. One has an Ak that is really convincing. Another has a Thompson. My son has a sniper rifle and a Gilly suit, his joy is getting a knife kill. The main reason I do not play is a heart problem so running up and down the field becomes a problem, I might try the sniper rifle and Gilly suit this spring. My son has several guns as do most his friends they invite everyone they can and provide guns and BB'S. Like you said so much better than paintballing and if someone cheats everyone knows it and he becomes a marked man. They all have automatic weapons and even a grenade launcher they did not like and sold. I like what they do it is a lot better than some trouble they could get into. They all thank me for use of a 6 acre field every time they come. The field has grown up in cedars and tall weeds so they have a blast. I know they would enjoy inviting you and yours to play to bad it is so far. How is the Nova coming along? Take Care and Happy Holidays John
-
OVS you are an airsofter. My son has my field all mowed up in strips with bunches of pallets for hiding behind. He and his friends have a great time playing at least once a month. They asked me to play, but I did not like the bruises ans whelps I saw on them. I told them I would play if I could use my 270 cal. They did not like that idea I just could not understand why LOL.

Ah sad but true for me as well Lou. I loved riding my bike but old bones break so much easier and heal so much slower. I still think there is no better way to travel than by motorcycle. oh to be young again.

Congrats CJ and enjoy!!!

It is a different fish and let us be glad the Dev team isn't caught up in designing a sim for microsoft, because the masses would want a flying first person shooter! not the fine sim we all love. I am happy being a "fringe oddball."
