Hi, Creaghorn, maybe that was the problem, you really couldn't see it much from the CP? I'll play around with it this weekend and see what I can do.
-
Thanks, I think it just didn't have the right feel about it.. looked too stiff, or what ever, so we decided to play down the effect. Would be interesting to see what others can do with it though/

We worked quite a bit on tracers back in August 2007 for Phase II. I was trying to get the look I saw in Flyboys: It just wasn't possible, but I came up with an alternative that you can see in the screenshots below, compared to the stock CFS3 tracers. There were some problems with these and I just can't remember what, we ended up going with the ones you see now, but if any one wants to try out my version, you can dl them here (click) Let us know what you think.

Western Front Map 1915-1916 for in game use UP
rabu posted a topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Map is up for download (click) after a days problem with corrupted uploads. I checked it and it's good now. Sorry to everyone who may have spent time trying to dl yesterday and this morning. The original, large, paper map which is the basis of this set was lent to me by Hugh Baldwin, "Bletchley," back in October 2006. It was a project to bring some maps into the Over Flanders Fields W.W.I. flight simulation as well as supply maps for others interested in this period of W.W.I. history. The original map was badly creased, ripped and worn and being very large I had to scan it in pieces, then paste it all together accurately in Photoshop and then restore it and enhance it. I've included a photo of what the original map looked like out of interest. (click here) The completed map was available for free down load on Polovsky's Over Flanders Fields website for several years. I had always planned on doing a series of smaller cut up versions for printing on standard letter size paper so that a OFF player could more easily use them in game. I have finally gotten around to doing it after the several requests I saw on the SimOuthouse OFF forum after the release of OFF phase 3, "Between Heaven & Hell" this January 2009. I cut these up and added borders so that the feeling is one of more authentic maps of the period. The main map is now divided into 16 segments, each indexed to a map segment by alphabet letters. Each segment overlaps so that there is no loss of detail and each segment is clearly marked in the upper right corner with it's index letter number. These will print out very nicely at Letter size (8.5"x11") or larger. In game, locate the map segment for your flight path and pencil in notes, mark the flight path, indicate way point markers, etc. I hope you enjoy these and they help in your flying in the OFF BHH game, or in any other historically accurate WWI sim. Thanks Uncleal: I've got that link and it's good, it just doesn't have enough detail and it doesn't seem to cover all the French Escadrilles -

Hi guys, Chris name ID'd each field and located each one by lat/long. Shredward is now working on the nationality issue. I decided to redo the sections, dividing the maps into 12 instead of 16 segments so that each map fits vertically on a letter size sheet better and to cut down the number of maps needed. Each map now covers about 35 miles in width by 45 miles in height, so with an average MPH flying speed (and no delays) it will take about 20-30 minutes to fly the limits of a map segment. I also changed the master index map with the index as a row number/column letter key to each map instead of the former large letter on each one. The legend for each segment will number key to each field icon on each segment and will then be on a second page and hopefully we will list not only the name of the field, but the nationally (and years of occupation if it changed hands or moved), along with possibly including info on aces stationed there at different times. Will just have to see how it all goes. -
Promise us, that you will set the OFF BHH sliders all on max 5, with your video card on maybe 16x antializing, etc., and then take some screen shots of planes and the landscape, I really want to see what it looks like with everything on max.. I don't think anyone has been able to do that yet! Wait a minute... "you just got a 30" screen?"... now I'm really jealous!

Just wondering, has anyone tried installing an extra hard drive that would have another copy of the operating system on it and be dedicated only to playing games? There would be no other programs and back ground programs/tasks to robe CPU energy from and I'll bet the games would really smoke on such a set up. I have an older 200GB drive that I'm not using, it isn't a SATA like my other two, but it's a decent drive. BUT.. Is there a problem installing an OS twice? I have XP Pro Is it too much of a hassle to reboot each time you want to play a game then reboot when you want to go back to your regular programs? If my new game drive is H drive, seems like if I'm currently booted into my C: drive I would be able to copy things over to C from H, like screen shots, etc., or while in H drive, I could copy patches downloaded or other things from the C drive over to H for install, so there wouldn't be a problem that way. Any thoughts?

I like it, I really like your story from today, we're looking forward to hearing back from you. Cheers! -
Olham: This flight seen looks really good, but I heard there was very little flight scenes in it and that the rest of the movie is really lousy? What's your opinion?

They can't stand the idea of you landing first and getting to the CO bar before they can, thus.. they come in way to fast, way to high, etc. and frequently crash.. bloody idiots.

We've come a LOOOOONG way from RB days. The skin editor in RB was redumentary at best, you still had to use a good graphics editor to do anything decent, and then you were so limited by the skin resolution file size and limited palette, it was one huge pain.. I remember, as I created a skins, but mainly worked on the terrain back then for the 2d and then 3d versions On-The-Edge, etc. For anyone really wanting to do skins in OFF, it isn't very difficult to make some easy additons of logos, changes of color, etc., using any rudimentary editor and the free dds conversion utilities and viewers available on the Navida site and elsewhere. A lot easier then it was in RB.

I've got XP Pro 32x I have an excellent program, Ultimate Troubleshooter (click) that has enabled me to weed out all the un necessary stuff and it's made a big difference in game play.. also in hi res reception of digital Channels on my WinTv card. I used to use a program that closed down back ground programs, but don't need it anymore.

Interesting! so, do you think it would work?

You are fast! PM me and Chris and maybe we can all make this work. WM may not have needed to differentiate the nationalities for the game, probably why he didn't. I have an email inquiry into the WWI historians website with the question about Brit/French/US identities, will see if they answer. Thanks again for the help. -

Yes, I just realized this myself after some one else mentioned the xml files a few days ago.. I didn't realize they had actual coordonates listed in them, but they apparently do. Going thorugh and figuring out which ones share common fields over time is something else I'm not sure how to do, is there an easy way using Office XL? I am waiting to hear back on a possible ID of which are French and which Brits, I would really like to include that on the maps. Chris was apparently getting coordonates in game and then using them in Google maps to locate them accurately, not quite sure how he was doing that either and I have very little time to spend on the whole projects except weekends and a few hours in the evenings. Dirk was supplying Chris with the German locations as well. Any help in the data area is more then welcome. Thanks,
