May I suggest a Nit Pick OFF 3 sub forum..
rabu replied to Over50's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
23?, of course not, I never suggested that and that wasn't the question.. you said "None have moaned about the products of Sierra" that was what I was questioning. And Sierra did very little in response to the countless criticisms.. just a few patches, then the 3d version to try to make more money. Meanwhile, in just a few months, 5 patches have been adressed to the problems, or wishes of the BHH players, very impressive IMHO. I think moe then enough has been done for Phase III at this point. -

If I can find the info on the identy of the dromes for French and Brits, I think it would be great to identify them. Dirk has been helping Chris with the German locations and Chris has been supplying me with the others and will be sending me the German ones, but we haven't broken them down into French and Brits, or approached the changes over the years to identify the common bases that would have the double icons yet. I think we can do it, but putting names on them is a bit much to expect. -
Gads! Why don't you just buy a real plane?

List of questions for OFF phase 3, would this'n that be possible ?
rabu replied to Wels's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yea, it all just takes time. Remember in Red Baron before Rens figured out how to access the compacted files that contained the scenery, etc., no one thought we could do that, then it happened and things moved forward. The CFS3 game engine is powerful and awsome, it's just that the way they used it in CFS3 had much to be desired. But look what has been accomplished in just the last year in OFF.. it's awsome too, and I think we will see a lot more to come. -

The dominate one would be the one that held through the war the most. Look at that pdf I posted from the Western Front and you'll see what I mean. By the end of 1918 there were a lot of German air fields taken over, so they would have the German cross with the roundel behind it. -

Huhh..? Wouldn't you rather see which dromes are which, instead of a generic, non national icon? I would, and I'm sure most players would as well. I would also like to see which are Brits, which French, which Belgium, (although the Belgium units were pretty obvious, they were way up in the N.W. corner). -

What about standard icons for sides that didn't switch hands, and double icons for ones that did with the predominate side being dominate? ie: -

I took these Flanders maps from the Red Baron Western Front patch and put them in a slide show so you can see the changes from 1915 to 1918. I know there was a lot of work put into this project. Although the Red Baron maps are not very accurate in them selves and are much too small for any accurate printing, it's still interesting to see the changes in time... just scroll through it. click for the pdf slide show -
Excellent!! That should be out there for people to see with our BHH top videos. I like the story too.

Thanks, Ivan, but WM has a whole other set that change with the year and month of the campaign under his WWI Scenery/Period folder. Most of the changes were in 1918. If ploted out they would give the names and locations though. -

Thanks, OP, that might be possible too. For now, it would really help if some of you would try these out and see if they help out in game. They are located for 1916 according to Chris. Thanks, -

To get back on track... Here is Map B and Map E from the Western Front set with icons added for dromes. Thanks to ChrisPDM1 and Dirk for finding the locations using Google. Please let me know what you think. These are only screen size, but you can still probably print them to test it out. Thanks, -
Hmm.. how about the Sopwith Snipe?
-
Actually, It's 10 Naval Squad's Norman MacGregor, judging by the wheel cover which looks like it has the atom looking two rings. A nice skin by Winding Man.

Yes, I almost picked the Gotha, fond memories from RedBaron, but there is something about those Zepps that is intreguing...

HoHo... tricky! There should be a vote for a German plane and one for for Allied plane, maybe? Of course, then all those rogue allies would vote for Snoopie's dog house plane for you, so I guess it's a no win situation.

These guys are unbelievable: Knocking everything you can think of about OFF, spreading untrue rumors, complaining about it costing money, encouraging spreading illegal copies... you name it. OFF on the SubSim forum (click here) I didn't even bother to read the whole thing.. makes me sick.
-
I agree, ignore it. I just happened to stumble on it last night doing a search for map info. I didn't know it had been discussed before and didn't bother to read all the way to the very end.. probably wasn't even that aware of the dates on the page I pulled up that I linked to, but did read up to about last month. Sorry everyone, wasn't trying to get any one incited and am certainly not encouraging any one to "attack" BUT.. I just am amazed some times about the extent of the disinformation that is spread around, luckily only by a few, and how vehement it can be. Comments about the scenery being nice, but really not that hard to make because it's really just satellite shots with buildings edited out, That not that much work really went into OFF and that it is only worth about $10, if anything. Encouraging some to come over to the OFF forums and create problems, spread illegal copies, etc. The recurring complaint seemed to be that it is only a mod, there for not worth much. The other thing I hear a lot is that OFF forums don't allow negative comments, at all.. Heard that over on the ROF forum as well and am getting tiried of it. Oh well, again, if any one does post over there, just post positive things you know are true about OFF and don't get sucked into their mud. I'm going to stay away, because I'm afraid I would not be able to keep my fighting gloves off very long.

The maps do show what's in game, pretty much, probably a lot more detail then the in game low res map, and like I said, it's up to the flyer to fly around and get oriented and make notes on the map, etc., if you want that realism level. Gimpy didn't make the sections you mentioned, Gousgounis did, and they were actually my map that I scanned and restored originally of the Western Front and were only cut up with no over lap or borders, etc. They've been removed since I posted my sectional version. Anyway, I realize each has their own concerns, but I agree the airfield icons would be very helpful on the paper maps and will see what I can do. I really doubt the OFF maps are going to change though, from what I understand it's hard coded in the game design of CFS3, unfortunately. Cheers,
