OK. here's one for you History experts... what is the plane, model, date, and any other pertanat data on this photograph? I know, it looks like a joke, but a huge hint... "Max" somebody fired 300 rounds before this went down

I know, I know!!!... Mattel Toy company's Barney Fokker! They had to do a recall though... too many toddlers getting shot up and crashing at 25 feet.. too bad.. fabulous dynamics and a dream to fly!

Morane, yes, N, Yes, I first thought it might be a type I, but looking closser there are definitely wedges on the prop and I believe the I had moved up to a synchronized Lewis or Vickers by then That was fast!

I think it's an outstanding video, better then the recent ones that they had a contest about. Gisbod, who made it, adjusted the color saturation in post editing of the video to make the colors less saturated and it is a huge improvement over the stock game colors. When ROF first came out it was a complaint registered by me and I believe Winding Man also remarked about it.. the colors are just too intense/garish and make it look sort of make believe, but this video shows up how much it can be improved with a simple, slight de-saturation adjustment. They still need a good, non mission based campaign, and a whole lot of planes before they can create an addictive environment, but they definitely have some great graphics and mainly, the lighting effects are outstanding. Only other problem is the requirement for very high end equipment to make it look the best, but computer equipment progresses fast and comes down in price with each advance. Meanwhile there is OFF and the upcoming v4 which promises even more..but just the way it is, I'm sure glad we have OFF as it has the best over all combination of qualities, in my opinion.

Really remarkable video, and the damage model doesn't take away from it IMHO. Although I can see the argument there, I don't happen to think it's that big a deal, there are much bigger things missing from ROF that will hopefull be addressed in the next patch from the developers. I fly ROF and OFF for completely different reasons and enjoy them both.

I thought the Noops routinely used them, not against planes or ground targets, but against balloons?

We've got rockets on some of the planes, right?

Hi, Carrick, nice shots. A suggestion would be to turn up your antialiasing to at least 4 as it will really improve the looks of the cables and edges on the planes. -

Wow, this looks really interesting. Will take a look at them tonight after work. Thanks guys! -
Hi, Nbryant: What a surprise to see that again. I scanned this map back in 2006 when I was working with Hugh Baldwin to put together the maps that are now available for download.. Here was my email to Hugh back then: I just scanned a rather large map of the western front that was an insert in a May 1918 National Geographic magazine I found on Ebay. Took me 16 scans to cover the whole thing! 27" x 31" 7.25 miles/inch. The map was almost gone, very thin velum type paper and many creases, a few tears, etc. Great map though. Interesting, back then, the National Geographic announces on the cover the map is included, but no article or anything inside, just the map. The whole issue is on "Smaller North American Mammals" Lots of great old ads from 1918.. ever hear of a luxury sedan named the Marmon 34?

Thanks, HS, well said, and you're right, the person(s) saying it was not possible to have a bunch of planes in campaign, never answered back when I posted the video proof you made. In fact, my postings of OFF videos and trying to argue back against these statements got the thread closed.. I probably pushed too hard, even though I was constantly saying I supported both sims and wish them both to be successful.. oh well. -

I've got a question... I've heard some comments at some other forums that OFF is too easy, the AI is too easy to shoot down, because they see you shooting them down so quickly, and so many in your videos. I've told them that you just happen to be one hell of a pilot.. what would your answer be? Thanks, -

Lookin' good! I can't believe how you can handle so many planes at once and manage to film at the same time! -
I made a 1080p video showing three screen action
rabu replied to appraiserfl's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I think it's impressive but I don't like the wide angle fish eye view distortion you are getting. I've seen other three screen setups that don't have that distortion that I think they look much better. Not a criticism, just my opinion. -

Hellshade: Very nice first effort! If I can make a few suggestions... add a bit of reverb to the voice.. not too much, just a bit and slow it down a bit to lower the octive as well, it will make it sound more like a news, Walter Cronkite type of sound. I think you're on to a very good start. -
Nice work Argon, and Lester!

I Don't Know Anymore Which is the Best WWI Sim!
rabu replied to ThePlainsman's topic in WWI Flight Sim Discussion
I agree, FE is free, why not get it, load up all the amazing mods available for it and see what you think? A lot of hard work has gone into FE and it's very impressive. ROF is progressing and has great potential, if it can just get enough added in, but they are working on it. Pat's ROF campaign has potential, though I still think it's in a beta stage and what it needs is to be availabe from ROF as one of their upgrades, or in some other easy way and with an easy install and integrated into ROF, if it's going to be popular with players. The graphics in ROF are pretty amazing and impressive. There have been complaints about the damage model on ground impact, but I don't feel those are fair, it's also very impressive. The lighting in ROF is one of it's strongest graphics points, giving it a feeling or reality missing in any other WWI sim I've seen. People that love it say it has the most realistic flight model they have ever flown and seem to be more interested in the multiplayer experience of combat, more then the historical campaign. On the negative side, it feels very empty and predictable, with the scripted missions but Pat is working on making that less obvious in his campaign generator. Also, the system requirements are much higher, but I disagree that you need a ultra high end system to run it, if you turn down the setup settings, and it still looks good. Meanwhile OFF Between Heaven & Hell and the Hat-In-The-Ring expansion that use the CFS3 game engine, and completely remove any indication of it, is the most popular because it is the only WWI sim available with a "Living Campaign"... a fully active, unpredictable, historically correct campaign that provides the most immersion.. along with a huge choice of historically correct planes and skins.. if you like that sort of thing. The graphics may not be quite as good as ROF, but they are impressive and more wide ranging in area. I still think, for the money, one can afford to buy both and help support both. -
The US Navy has "Pacific Reserve Fleets," mothballed ships, going back to WWII which can suposidly be up and ready to use in only a few days (I would have to see it to believe it). Anyway, plaes like Bremmerton, Washington, Treasure Island, California, San Diego, and other places have huge battleships, crusers, destroyers, all sitting, waiting for the next war.

I've been watching a lot of videos and have noticed that the best shooters, like Hellshade (pay me later, H), seem to have over come the tendency to jerk the stick when firing the MG and they consequently have deadly aim. I know, it just takes practice.. maybe, but that "Twitch" is hard to stop. It also takes dead calm control and the tendency to jump from plane to plane at the wrong time, or to shoot from too far away are also too easy to do. Do any of you have any comments on this?

Good ideas, thanks ZZ
