  1. Thanks for all your comments and I really enjoyed the funny ones... I've been tempted to actually wear my black "Natural Point: cap with it's silver lined brim and silver letter, with the spring clip out in public some time just to see who might approach me knowing what it is.. but then, I'm also afraid I might get questioned by the police or worse.. I think I'm going to save the money and use it for a dearly needed video card up grade, that will probably make a much bigger difference in everything. The hat with clip and the light weight head phones worn over the hat are actually quite comfortable and it works well so far. The biggest problem I found was that I was sitting to close to the screen. In TrackIR5, when I get it set up right, I found that when I move the screen back to where the red arrows show up in the test screen, that seems to be the ideal distance. I then make sure when the game starts, to sit back that far and hit the F12 to center the view, and all works well. BUT... I'm still having other hardware problems though, I'll start a new thread on that. Again, thanks all.
  2. Rekindled

CS: Windingman is the terrain guru on this one and has done a great job. I did the OFF skins for the early Nieuport series, N11-N16-N17 and other then some support maps, posters, etc., that's it on this sim. Many in the group, as you know, go way back to the beginning.. RedBaron, and I think that was what our "heritage" was. It influenced the whole experience that is now OFF, just as RedBaron had that special attraction that kept it going, even to this day. I have a feeling OFF is going to be around for quite awhile and it amazes me that the engine in this sim still has so much potential. But, as you say, it's the combination of the history and action that makes OFF so captivating, and engrossing.
  3. Rekindled

Hay, CS, nice to see you back.. and you go way back! I too have little time for OFF, but love to drop in on the forum as much as possible and have been visiting a bit more often over the last several weeks. You summed up my feelings in a nut shell, I think others, who had not tried OFF before, or had only tried the early versions are beginning to discover the huge improvements too. Salute
  4. DID Campaign Website

Look great, Lothar, but all I'm getting is the entry page.. there doesn't seem to be any links, or is this just that with more to come?
  5. Just want to encourage anyone who may have missed this to please read the first two posts and then please post your information. Hopefully some of the techs on the site will be able to use the information to help find a solution to the tearing problem. Thanks to all to took the time on this.
  6. WW1 Photos unearthed

    Thanks, Wm, pretty neat!
  7. Well, I'm not that impressed, I was expecting more then one skin for the Snipe! And the video quality was much to full of noise! Hehe...
  8. Merv Corning died a few years ago, he was commissioned by the Leach company to paint a series of early aircraft stories from history, mostly WWI, and they are fascinating. You can still see them here. Here's one of the Belgium ace, Willy Coppens near death when his Harriet collided with a German sausage baloon. He managed to survive with only a broken leg and went on to become the greatest Belgium ace of the war. Enjoy!
  9. Oh Boy.. Can't wait to see this!
  10. Thanks, RAF-L, excellent account and quite amazing!
  11. Interesting, Uncleal, I didn't know that.
  12. Looks good, Hellshade, and I only saw one frame in the whole video with slight tearing.. huge improvement.
  13. Memorial Day

Nice one, Uncle, but you forgot to give credit to the author, James Bradley. Michael T Powers (whose name has been omitted from most of the Internet-circulated versions), transcribed from a videotape he made of a talk given by author James Bradley at the Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington, Virginia. Bradley, whose father, was one of the six men pictured in the famous photograph of the flag-raising on Mt. Suribachi in February 1945 (and is thus depicted in the monument's) had earlier that year published Flags of Our Fathers, an account of the life stories of those six men. The last paragraph that starts with "We need to remember that God created this vast and glorious world for us to live in, ...." was not part of it though.
  14. Yep, makes sense, Tamper.. #%*%! computers! OK, looking at the voting stats, and there aren't a lot, but hopefully more will join this weekend, here's the results that seem relevant: Use TrackIR and have NO Tearing: RAF-Lovert, TSmoke, TheMightySRC, Fentiswlf, Hood, Bigfish3 Use TrackIR and HAVE Tearing: Hellshade (Maxfps fixed), Duce Lewis (Maxfps fixed), VonPaulus, WinstonDoRight, Barkhorn, Cameljockey, BurningBeard, Velvet. I'm going to leave out the non TrackIR users for now, but they can try this out to. For those haveing the problem, will you please try out Hellshades solution and see if it works? Re Hellshade: Go to C:\OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields\default folder and edit the cfs3.xml file with notepad. Change 'MaxFPS="0"/>' to 25 and try using TrackIR. Lots of Jaggies. Bump it to 60 and see if they dissappear. The exact number they dissappear at may change with your slider settings, etc.
  15. OK, guys.. the SSD, or some inter reaction of it's use seems to work for some.. I still think power supply drain may be a culpert and maybe the use of SSD takes the load off enough that the video card then doesn't get bogged down, who knows? Hellshade has obviously also found a solution that works for him, and for one other poster now, DuceLewis, (on his announcement thread). And for what ever reason it works for some, it's definitely worth a try by any one having the problem. If this fixes the problem for some people, fantastic news, and we'll just keep searching till we can fix it for everyone.
  16. Duce and Hellshade: This is pretty incredible news, even if it doesn't work for everyone it is something that definetely needs to be added to a possible solution for people to try out. Hellshade, thanks so much for noticeing this and the post. I'll add the info to the poll thread for eveyone to read there as well. Thanks again.
  17. Hay, Dej, great job and I love the music, really fits the mood.
  18. OK, good idea, BD. In post #2 I originally asked, "Are you using TrackIR? Yes/No? What model and what settings?" I just edited it and added, "speed and smoothness settings, etc." If any of you see any changes like this that might help, let me know and I'll edit that post. If you wouldn't mind, BD, please supply all the other deatils on your system settings, OFF settings, etc.... as much as you can, and in the order asked in post #2. And, any one reading.. this is going to drift way off if we don't try to all supply the same info, in the same order, as requested in post #2, and then add any comments that you think will help or will add to it at the end. That way, it will be easier for those of you who have a lot ot tech knowledge to try to compare the posts. Thanks everyone for your input!
  19. We've had 14 replies out of 200 some views.. I think we can do better. A few I haven't seen who were commenting on the similar thread Over50 started are: Craighorn Morris Almccoyjr Bird Dog Duce Lewis Parky WinstonDoRight Catch Olham (I think he's on vacation though) Hope you guys, and any one else reading will contribute to this as I think it's possible there may be a common thread in all of this and if we have all the information in one place it will make it easier to look though them and maybe see some associations... I hope. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to reply here so far.
  20. Excellent video, how many planes do you think are flying around in that fur ball?.. looks like 20 or more.. was this done in campaign or quick mission? I still want to prove to a.. ummm.. another "group," that this many planes is possible in campaign mode. Thanks,
  21. Holy Cow, guys, these are outstanding shots. But.. That looks more like a hot dog then schitzel?
  22. Will you all please check out the poll I just posted and fill out as much info as possible.. maybe it will all start making more sense when things are put in perspective with facts.
  23. Please list the following and try to be as thorough as possible: Version of OFF being used and any comments. Are you using TrackIR? Yes/No? What model and what settings? Speed and Smoothness settings, etc. Settings in OFF Workshops set up. List your AA and Resolution setting, and any settings that aren't recommended in the OFF FAQ or readme's about the configuration set up. See the Installation & Graphics suggestions on thisFAQ Page (click here) Your System Information Operating System and version CPU type and speed RAM amount Video card(s) Make, model, built in memory, etc. Monitor type, size, resolution you run it at set in the video card setup Any special Video card setups that aren't default or "application controlled".. AA, vertical sync, etc. Comments. Sound card model, etc., or use mother board sound? Settings of sound. Power Supply make and model Wattage, and can you find out its currant handling specs? Hard drive type, make and model, speed, buffers, etc., or other types of SS drives. Any other information that you think would be valuable about your system specs. I'm sure many of you will think of a lot of things I've left out, so please comment.
  24. And a high speed hard drive can consume 25-30 watts of your PS output.
