  1. Mannock was actually considered 'old' for a fighter pilot in WWI and was 30, or maybe even 31 I think when he died. He actually comments on the age difference between himself and his comrades in several of his letters home. I found The Red Baron movie to be very disappointing. Reading MVR letters and reports one gets the sense of a much more complex and contradictory character than was ever represented in the film which, rather disappoinitngly, opted to make him a rather simplistic poetic and Romantic figure.
  2. As far as I know it's a term that only emerged in the later years of the war in response to the way the Germans decorated and organized their patrols. I was under the impression it was an RFC term that referred to the Germans tendency to paint planes in distinctive, individual colourful markings. This combined with the fact that later in the war numerous Jastas flew together meant they were a spectacularly diverse and colourful sight. Could be wrong though.
  3. The return of Bruno Stachel.
  4. 500 rounds from a Lewis gun? He should be so lucky!
  5. Yes, can't claim I learned much new about either of them, but it was a decent enough account and worth watching just to actually see the various letters and diaries they'd written. 85 suadron's attitude to McCudden was utterly disgraceful and shameful.
  6. It must be damned near impossible for the poor kid to see where he's going at that angle.
  7. It's a strong compsition and a good start, but you need to make the direction and colour of the lighting on your models consistent with that of the background image. At the moemnt they look like they're sitting on top of the background photograph rather than being part of its world.
  8. Wings is set during WWI, some good writing and acting, but it's ultimaterly compromised by its meagre production values.
  9. I just wanted to post this link, which I stumbled across the other day. I don't care for this guy's taste in carpets (see photos of finished model), but the final piece of work is fantastic, the attention to detail is remarkable. The cockpit interior is a real work of art. http://www.scale-models.co.uk/view.php?pg=se5a
  10. Todt, you really need to read the manual.
  11. Shift and F8 to switch to the gunner position, it's all in the manuals included with the game.
  12. I have very fond memories of watching this as a youngster, a great idea, some great writing and acting too, but it was very compromised by its production values. Recreating the Great War with vintage aircraft on a shoestring budget is a tough job.
