  1. Would love to hear everybody's first impressions once they get WOFF: BHaH II downloaded, installed, and up and flying. This isn't a technical thread but more a how to survive in the unfriendly skies thread. My first advice is that later in the war, at the beginning of the really big dogfights, it's best to hang on the outside edges of the furball and pick off anyone either attempting to leave (because they are damaged, low on ammo, etc) or just off on their own a bit. With so many aircraft all bunched up in a small area, the chances of getting hit by enemy fire, friendly fire, or even mid-air collisions are at their highest. It can get VERY hectic and it's impossible to keep a full 360 degrees of awareness at all times. This is especially true when wearing goggles (optional to turn on or off in the Workshop), which can get covered in dirt, blood, rain and cracked. The fights will spread out sooner or later. Sometimes it can take a little bit. In the meantime, hang around the edges on the side that enemy aircraft are most likely to retreat to in order to pick off stragglers and novices. It's not the bravest move, but you'll live longer.
  2. Flying in good company today. Jasta 2. 1 Oct 1916.
  3. Thank you VFC. Great idea!
  4. For the past few weeks, I have been posting beta pics and videos on several WWI-related Facebook groups. I am listing them below. There have been a lot of positive reactions and some good questions. I plan to keep posting new pics and videos but it might not hurt if anyone else wants to show a few screenshots of their own WOFF: BHaH II missions. I figure as great as the new sim is, OBD could use a little help getting the word out for those who didn't mind helping. WWI Aircraft Pilots WWI Aircraft and Earlier 1903 to 1918 Flight Simulator Enthusiasts (Official Community) Airplanes and Aces of WWI Just keep the posts positive. On the rare chance someone has a snarky remark, let it go or say something upbeat about the sim. Don't trash talk other sims because that can be a turn-off. Say other sims are great, but here's what's great about WOFF: BHaH II. Anyway, if you want to help, that would be great. I'd love to see future expansions on BHaH II and the more sales they get the greater the chance of that happening. As happy and excited as I am I still have 1 or 2 more things on my Wish list. ;) Thanks for any assistance!
  5. PanamaRed's mod bumps my FPS by 20 to 30 over stock BHaH II. You sacrifice distant ground textures but if you aren't zooming in on them you don't really notice the difference. Only the FPS bump. It will be interesting to see how the modders tweak things to get even more performance out of the new system. Overall, I have to agree that BHaH II is the smoothest flying experience yet for me. But as you say, a lot can depend on system specifics, settings, etc. Thanks for testing redwolf!
  6. A brilliant victory Lou! As you say, the air war just got a whole lot deadlier and things people took for granted before about enemy pilots are likely to get them killed now. Best not to be overconfident. In one engagement, I was shot up rather quickly and spent 90% of the encounter diving and running for my life. In another, I managed to outfly them, but I was lightly wounded and got no kill credit. The gents on the other side have gotten quite serious about their business since BHaH II!
  7. When you are all alone and get jumped, that's when you do want to stay in the middle of them. Damn scary encounter.
  8. WOFF BH&H II - Install Notes

In other news, I nominate Pol and Winder for Sainthood....
  9. Not the beta thread anymore thankfully! I'd say WOFF: BHaH II knows how to make you feel like you are in a dogfight for your life!
  10. WOFF BHaH II Features discussion

Another very interesting little Feature tidbit. Feature #78 - Player Airfield is now instantiated as a unique field and now has the ability in the future to have unique buildings as well as construction activity from time to time. So it's not all the airfields, just the players, which presumably the Feature moves with the player when their squadron relocates to a new airfield. I wonder what kind of buildings and construction activity OBD has in mind for this for the future. It's clearly laying the groundwork for something fun and interesting.
  11. I know you know Ace....but somebody new to the forum may not. Just didn't want any new folks to get the wrong impression of OBD. Tone and all that can get lost sometimes in the nudge, nudge, wink, wink of things. ;) No offense intended to you at all my friend.
  12. OBD isn't the reason you aren't flying it now. Its all in 2Checkouts hands. Hopefully tomorrow...
