You think France has a problem with unexploded ordnance?
Olham replied to Hauksbee's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
The job, as I heard, must be paid VERY good. But sometimes, only the widow has something of the good rent. One or two years ago, a dismantler blew up with the bomb. Since 2000, eleven German bomb squad members got killed. The delayed chemical bomb fuses are most dangerous in the dud bombs, because they never know how much the container of the chemical is already rotten. Sometimes bombs are getting moved by excavators, and then they are completely unpredictable, and must often get ignited where they are. -
Just found this site with many pages of interesting photos - and this "self portrait". The photo shows the impacts of two rounds near the cockpit of Udet's Albatros "Lo". Enjoy! http://flickrhivemind.net/Tags/udet/Timeline

Olham replied to Hauksbee's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Oranienburg is one of the hotspots for dud bombs. Still today, they evaluate tons of Allied aerial photographs to find possible spots with duds. And find some, almost every year. Even in the midst of the city, beneath new built roads and even houses. Check out this interesting photo series to learn more: http://www.n-tv.de/mediathek/bilderserien/wissen/Blindgaenger-immer-gefaehrlicher-article4001166.html -
For all who never had a chance to visit, or who want to revisit Shuttleworth. In the first video, you can see mostly all their military aircraft, while the bonus video shows more civil rarities, some of which I had never seen before. Guest airplanes complete this widespan overview. Make sure to watch at 720HD. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NT9Ecf6GLRw

THE SHUTTLEWORTH COLLECTION Air Show 2006
Olham replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I've been up there in Derbyshire in the 80s, Trotski. I remember a place called Birchover, north of Derby. There were huge "thunder stones" which the ancient druids had used to impress the crowd. And somewhere in the area was a cliff; a line of rocks, which was also well known there - but I forgot the name. And on another visit to England, I was standing on a high chalk hill near London, when I heard that distinct sound of a Rolls Royce Merlin or Gryphon come closer. A Spitfire on it's way to or from an airshow came passing our cliff, quite close. We waved, and the pilot waved back! A great, totally unexpected sensation!- 4 replies

Returning to the Unfriendly Skies
Olham replied to CaptSopwith's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
That happened to most of us, Soppy! It was a looong learning curve for me, and still it hasn't reached it's top. All I can suggest is, to fly VERY defensive and engage and shoot only when it is a certain kill, and nobody else is after the same prey (collision is my No. 1 killer). All good advice surely - but I KNOW how hard it is to follow it! -

Ah, the Sopwith Snipe - I often wonder, why I didn't see it more often in screenshots.

I know both feelings well. The Halberstadt was great, when they had nothing else (before the Albatros D.I and D.II arrived. I have had many fights against Airco DH.2 flying the Halberstadt - and it could hold it's own. And as for "throw-away pilots" - they turned out to be the best ones quite often for me also! Blue skies - stay aloft, Soppy!

Hey, Lou - nice to 'see' you!

It looked to me as if the number on the right wing was distorted. But it might just be a trick of the eye. -

Seems you are getting distorions? Your props are looking great to me though! -

Is that with GMax, Hauksbee? Looks almost easy... They said though, that the big parts like fuselage and wings were rather easy to build. Did you ever build a rotary engine to the detail? Or a working instrument? -

The Bristol Fighter is one of the few E/A I really fear. Fighting them is like fighting tigers. -
10 German WWI Aces as feared as the Red Baron...
Olham replied to Hauksbee's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I would have named Ernst Udet, Erich Löwenhardt, Josef Jacobs, Werner Voss, Fritz Rumey, Rudolph Berthold, Bruno Loerzer, Paul Bäumer and Oswald Boelcke. All 40 or more victory aces. But this article might be interesting for newbies. -

Here is a picture from a site about advanced modding of the old "Battle of Britain II" - is that a way you work, Hauksbee? Looks like he builds half an aircraft. Could it later get mirrored? Here is a link to that site: http://www.simhq.com/daily-news/battle-britain-ii-wings-victory-update.html -

I'm still not so sure if I will ever get into modelling, Hauksbee. I'd love to have a Roland D.VI in WOFF, but would I love to BUILD one? All I read on 3D modelling, rather turned me off, to be honest. I am rather unpatient. -

Wow! Hauksbee, that sounds great, doesn't it? We could work together on a project. Thank you, Eric. If I decide to start my modelling attempt, I'll come back to you! -

Thank you for your generous offer, Eric. I may come back to it, once I should start modelling. How do you mean "work space" ? -

Wow, all those rounded parts are looking great, Hauksbee! I guess you could build a 3D plane model for WOFF already. I wonder: can you build parts bigger first, and then scale them down to a desired size? What is the "scaling problem" with Boistrancourt? -
