  1. Faces High

Oooops - I missed that, sorry, Lou - ahm - Herr Präsident! OY!!! And as you are just at it - may I also suggest to consider the inscription of our good Carrick?
  2. I guess the Germans were not part of that school, carrick. Maybe guests though? Of course, if they asked me, I could make a guest appearance, no problem! Now - which scarf should I wear? Are my goggles clean? My moustache - does it need fresh pomade? Where are my white deerskin gloves?!
  3. redpiano, so much will be overhauled or renewed, that I am almost certain, the sounds will be too.
  4. Hey, Carrick, I just wondered why you don't have the "Barmy OFFers Club" badge yet - did no one invite you? I guess you are more than barmy enough to join the club. I will ask our president Lou about that.
  5. Faces High

Not necessary for me, Pol - I fly without TAC and Labels, so I have more important things to watch out for than faces on clouds. Let them look out for Kylie Minogue - until they hear the Rak-ak-ak-ak-ak! of my twin Spandaus behind them. Daydreaming and cloud-watching is not for alert pilots, meine Herren! Mmuahahahahahahahahaaaaa!!!!!

Sid, you wouldn't believe it - today I have seen the same Ernie-type cloud face as you had. Could it be, that we were flying on the same day, in the same region? No, it can't be - you were at the north sea in winter, and I'm near Verdun, in spring. See here - above my tailplane:
  7. Doesn't it? This feeling of constantly possible threat from any direction makes me feel closer to the real pilots. Now, once you have got used to flying with TrackIR so much, that it feels almost "natural" to you, you could go a step further and fly after a map like Lou does, and me sometimes too. You would not follow the waypoints of the inflight map then anymore - you would draw a course following the roads, railways and landmarks. This works astonishingly well for me. After some time I know the lakes in my area, and can distinguish them from their shapes; I give them names in my map. Railtracks are surprisingly correct, and you can fly distances of 60 miles and more, following them. I have often paused the sim over a landmark, like a railway bridge over a river, and noted the longitude and latitude from the ingame map's upper right corner. And I was amazed to really find a railway bridge crossing a river in GoogleMaps at that position. Same for lakes. Roads are more difficult to follow, I find. I print my area out on a letter size paper, put it into a solid clear plastik jacket which I fix in a clipboard. I draw the course with a red marker. It must be a waterproof one, so your fingers cannot wipe them out. You can later wipe out the lines with cleaning-alcohol. I mark events there too. Where did I spot EA, where did we fight; where was my victory location. For the victory locations, I also pause the sim and note Longitude and Latitude. I like to go to GoogleMaps (Satellite view) at that exact position, to see the environement there. This brings the whole event even more to life for me. If the roads there were already photographed by GoogleStreetView, I pull the yellow mannikin down into the nearest road, and then I look around, take a short walk around the spot. With these little additions "Over Flanders Fields" is even more able to "put me into the plane", to let me breathe the scents of spring, when I shut down the engine near my tent hangar; to listen to the climbing larks' song on the afternoon of a warm summer day. I haven't found such deep immersion in any other sim. Rating: "Made with Love and Dedication". .
  8. Thanks, Dej. I want a real printed one, and I want to own it. I'll keep searching. And I'll send you a PM.
  9. Same for me - I use "Die roll at death" since some time, because I had died twice in minor little accidents. Now it seems quite balanced.
  10. Congrats, Flyby - I always forget to check my own number of posts. Helluvalot! I guess I must soon spend bucketsful of virtual beer.
  11. Bandicam V Fraps

Made a full-screen test video yesterday, and it looked great in FRAPS. After the update, of course.
  12. No, that wouldn't be legal, Lou. I needed the agreement of the holder of the copyrights - also for translations. Cause the content is not my own - it is McCudden's - or his legal followers in copyrights.
  13. Indeed, Lou, and it's okay for me - shows a growing interest, and maybe respect. If only the flyers themselves had something of the rising prices; or their families. Neither "No parachute!" nor "Flying Fury" seem to have been translated into German, Hasse Wind. Only Cecil Lewis book was. I wonder if I should offer the translation to some editors. But I guess the market might not be big enough.
  14. Thank you, guys - I know AbeBooks and had made a search there (also at EBAY and AMAZON). I get the same books btw. in abebooks UK - but in abebooks.de the prices are already converted to Euro. But to pay 18 Euro for a paperback in fair condition is not what I wanted. I will keep searching on. Sometimes you just need a long breath to find the right things.
  15. Sure - with a behaviour like that, a person like him wouldn't be able to enjoy a good seat in our mess for long anyway. We can only keep this airfield tidy.
  16. I have just seen, that the RoF Forum has locked the thread about the accusations. Before, Jason had tried to draw it on to a level of ding-dong ditching. But still more posts came in telling him, what a bad style that was, and so they locked it up. Not a gentlemen's duel with pistols at dawn - rather pulling the "EJECT" handle in a jet fighter. I want to say to everybody here, that I am very, very glad, that I found this forum with all you good people! The OFF Forum was my first forum ever. What I have seen in other fora since then, convinced me, that we have a great place with a wonderful community. Almost a kind of "Shire" in a world often so dark and shadowed. I have seen places, where people only fight about something for the fighting reason. They do not want to discuss anything, nor do they search for agreement or common sense - they want to fight. Let us here keep the mess table clean, boys - and if we don't spill our beer over the piano keyboard, the players can play all the wonderful tunes, when we come back from our sorties in the evenings. .
  17. Me, I also had some works to do and didn't watch them so much - sometimes it's a Kindergarten, isn't it?
  18. I recommend to remain halfways calm - maybe "Jason" acted alone and out of frustration. Perhaps he's had a few before he wrote that. Let's not pour fuel into the fire.
  19. I also like both sims, and it may not be the fault of the other people, who worked on RoF. But Jason was simply throwing with mud here, and that's bad behaviour. He hasn't done himself a favour with that. I have written an answer over at RoF - I hope they are fair enough and don't remove it. http://riseofflight.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=28378&p=393891#p393891
  20. I guess he attacks OFF, because he fears OFF. It is a compliment - although in a lousy form. Tch! The youngsters today - no style; no conduct...
  21. Lou, I am - in many respects - a stone age brain (no, wait - they must have been more intelligent - they made it through an ice age!). So to make my request more precise: if I download it and throw it into the aircraft folder - how would it become chosen by any squadron? Or must I tell my OFF, that Escadrille XY should use the Caudron instead of Strutters?
  22. Sorry, Lou, I obviously missed your previous link - as I missed Stumpy's Caudron for Phase 2. Guess I was still too new with all the sim settings and the forum (you guys made my first forum I ever joined!); so I didn't step even further back then, into modding and such stuff. I always thought it would be nice to see the Caudron in OFF - it is a (yet missing) French two-seater, and it has a special characteristic shape that makes it quite distinct. Wouldn't be an odd plane AFAIK - the Caudron was no outsider, was it? If it will not be in OFF II, would it be possible to use Stumpy's model to replace the Strutters in a French unit - could an AI squad fly them?
  23. Bletchley's AA Mod

Short - and sweeeeet! Damn, I bet you devs see a very different OFF on your screens already!
  24. ...but then I found this - if you speak French, you're lucky. http://albindenis.free.fr/Site_escadrille/Ecoles_Pau.htm
  25. Lou, your 'little big' project looks cute so far! I have just tried to find a short and compact Wiki info about that school, but - nothing. Even when I only typed in "Pau", I saw a rather short page about the town, but no one there seemed to remember this time. Which I find a pity, and quite strange.
