Well, you can possible do it in OFF, foreigndevil. RAF_Louvert has been far over the Alpes once - not sure which plane he took though. I guess, a twoseater with more fuel load would get you further. You could also visit northern Italy! If you fly from Sierentz SE of Mulhouse in south-southeasterly direction, you could get to Milano.

How long would it take with 16000er download rate, to download such a whole sim? I'm asking so I know if I should let it run, when I go out - or if I can do it in 20 minutes.

...with the first prize: P4 (or however it will be named by then)!

Not so easy to land - The Fokker Dr.1 Triplane
Olham replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
The Fokker Triplane is quite narrow, which must make it very hard to balance. As lower wingtips touching the turf were quite common, they attached wooden skids to the bottom of the wingtips. It also has immense lift, which makes it hard to "let it drop" down on the field. I think it is very important, that you land the craft against the wind. Sidewinds and crosswinds are a problem. As the real plane's rotary has no throttle, it must be interrupted per use of "blip switch" to reduce forward speed. You need to reduce enough speed to make her touch down, but you also need enough speed to keep her straight forward. A tricky balance to find. The original craft had a tail skid with a kind of metal plough, which really cut into the turf to keep her running straight. -
"Mmuahahahahahahahaaaaa!!!!!!!!!"

elephant, I have the package "IL-2 GOLDEDITION" (without "Pacific Fighters"); plus an extra CD "Pacific Fighters" - do you know if I can also use the above mods with that, or must I have "1946"?
-
Thank you, Richard. And true, Dej - but then, most I saw of England and Wales seemed very, very beautiful to me. I must travel "Old Blighty" again - worth more than three journeys indeed.
-
The "Flying Tigers" seems to be so much better looking than the "Rabaul" scenery and planes; can that be? The third video is forbidden here. The 4. looks almost like real again. No. 1 and 4 are masterly made really! I always loved the look of the "Warhawk" with the Shark mouth. :good: And that's what I'd get with your above mod links, elephant? That would be incredible!

Sometimes it's scary how accurate the offensives take place in OFF
Olham replied to Creaghorn's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
So much historical knowledge has been carefully put into OFF; all the squadrons and the ways they take across the maps during four years of war; all the hundreds of individual and ace skins, and the thousands of squadron-sheme paintjobs of skins - more than 3.700 ! - all the events on the ground in perfect timing, the life and correct death time of all the aces - I bet I haven't even seen 10% of the whole work - this is a big cornucopia. I do also own and fly the "other sim", and I know what I like about it, and there is really a lot I like, but compared to this rich content of OFF - these Volumes 1 - 16 of WW1 history that OFF really is (and I'm speaking of thick volumes!) - compared to all this, the other is yet a desert. And before anyone complains: I don't mean that with disrespect - I like the other for what it is. Actually, if someone would come up with a third interesting WW1 sim, I'd also buy that one. But I LOVE Over Flanders Fields. And I can hardly wait for the next big step forward, that the devels are working on. Sheer cretinism - cause I haven't even yet seen all BH&H has to offer. -
Good point, Dej! What about OVER FLANDERS FIELDS "To Hell on Wings" or, since the devs built that addon/mod for Red Baron 3D, they can perhaps use this name again: OVER FLANDERS FIELDS "Hell's Angels"

Update 6 December 2011 - 20:56 h Berlin time (= GMT + 1) HumanDrone, Pennsylvania, added. The maps are in post 1 of this thread
-
You're funny, HumanDrone! And since you show your location, I might as well add you to our "OFF Pilots Maps".
-
Do you have made or do you know perhaps a video from a friend, from the Pacific theater?
-
Thank you, elephant. My main question is: can I fly a campaign in the Pacific?
-
Well, RAF_Louvert, Creaghorn and I would probably agree, but Herr Fokker would call his solicitors, Carrick!

Yes, I knew you didn't also BUILD it - this toast was on the research. Winder has got several medals for his great works already, but yes: he has done a great, great job making all your info into 3D "Hobbitses". Did I dream that, or have I recently seen (British?) cavalry near Lens, when I was very low? -
Just found this IL-2 Pacific video on YouTube - man, look at those skins! Nice work! I wonder if this is a mod, or the original?

Well, I doubt that most people here can read this, but I can and I must say: Yes, the historical research that has been done and has flowed into OVER FLANDERS FIELDS, is top notch. I saw the same for the battle for Passchendaele. Any other sim would just have some minor artillery going on everywhere, without the correct locations, and without any context to the historical events. I think this is all Shredward's work, and the man has not been honoured here much yet for all the countless hours he must have put into this great work. So let's do this with a German troops' way of toasting (I hope you British and French come up with some of your own): (The Vizefeldwebel raises his glas and shouts:) "Shredward, er lebe hoch!" (and joined by all men, who all raise their glasses:) "Hoch! Hoch!!" (All men drink their glasses out) :drinks: :drinks: :drinks: :drinks: :drinks: . -
Damn, I had completely forgotten that I HAVE "Pacific Fighters". Just searched through my IL-2 stuff and found it. Bought it back then, but never installed it. I wonder if it is any good - I'll check it out!

Wow, a great album - thank you for sharing, LIMA! -
elephant, those skins and pilots look great! Is there a mod for IL-2, which allows to fly a Pacific campaign?
-
Hauksbee, is this "Rising Sun" mod the best momentary available for Pacific theater?

Shredward - the dev who talks cryptic business - but I guess this one's easy...
