When were victory markings first used?
Olham replied to JimAttrill's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yes, indeed - there is some Errol Flynn in him! -
A new website is under construction, called FLUGMUSEUM MESSERSCHMITT. That site already shows some interesting videos of the Bf109 and the Me 266. More is to come. http://flugmuseum-messerschmitt.com/ Here are three videos:

Well, he had 19 victories already! Of course he was cool! -

In the "Battle of Britain" I guess they simply didn't have the time or energy left over for such things - they had to make several sorties most every day. But here are two pics of British ace Stanford Tuck, commander at Biggin Hill, and his aircraft - he obviously did mark his victories. -
Garage man? Noddy series??? Jim, I'm from a different cultural area - could you enlighten me?

I did a search at THE AERODROME and found this: http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/showpost.php?p=338030&postcount=3 -
The "negro-boy insignia" is not Marseilles personal emblem, but that of JG 27, which operated in Africa. What is "political uncorrect" today, was quite common in the past, even until the early 60s. The American song "Ten little Injuns" soon became "Ten little niggers" - in a German version it's called "10 kleine Negerlein". German chocolate company SAROTTI had a "Mohr" (spelled like the French "maure") as their emblem. They only changed it in the 90s, into a more golden-skinned figure.

Vickers Supermarine Spitfire - The perfect Beauty
Olham posted a topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Found these two docus today about an aircraft you can only idolise and adore. While the Messerschmidt Bf109 has to me the "sexyness of a dynamic, dangerous shark", the Supermarine Spitfire has the true beauty of a most brilliant aeroplane, with all those curves that make the designer in me - and the male - quite dizzy ! ... Haha, that brings back a memory to me: my first self-built model was a Bf109 G (also of balsa wod, but unflyable). I still remember: the wing cannons were made of toothpicks - Mmuahahahahaaa!!! -
Yeah, indeed!

Naw, better not - I don't have the nerves of steel, to deal with all the conflicting forces in the UN*, and to bear the ignorance about the fate of others, which I'd have to face in that job. * the name UN = United Nations is irony already. How united are they? Or rather: not? -
Jim, I don't know if you are as barmy as the rest of us, but however - I'd like to declare you an honorary member of the B.O.C. Here is the badge for your signature: Hope you'll like being a member of the club. The drinks will be on you tonight - I hope you have your purse filled.

The badge was designed by Dej, if I remember that correctly, Jim. -
Well, in short: he must have been good at what he did - but I don't think I would have liked him. Still though, I prefer an honest man who still admits AFTER all was lost, that he is a true Nazi, to all those liars who "never had anything to do with it all". I still wouldn't like him - but I knew where he stands.
-
Yep, that is what most more modern sims still don't have or cannot do: make you feel like really being there; a mortal soul, vulnerable, tired or full of vigor - and always glad when you reached your home field unharmed. Gee, is that a default Halberstadt? It looks great compared to when I last flew one! Must start an early campaign, I suppose.

Didn't you say only recently, you were often too cynical, Widow? That basterd has cost the world so much that I get goose-skin, when I read such jokes about him. German technology is not Herr H's achievement - he only fostered it's development, and of course his plans benefitted from it. I can admire the technical progress of that time, and the achievements of some of the German pilots (when they were not, like Rudel, a through-and-through Nazi), but I dislike the fashist ideology they were used to support. And I'm glad they failed. Believe me.

Found it, Jim - here is the website of that artist, with the "other bits" of the aircraft: http://www.markstyling.com/bf109fs1.htm Enjoy! EDIT: Just saw, you can buy high quality prints of all his profiles; here's how that would look: Ace Günther Rall's Bf109 G-2 "Black 13", 8./JG 52, Russia 1942.

You save it into an own gallery of your. Then you right-click it there and save the "address" of the image. Then you go to your "Settings/Signature". There you click on that little image, which will bring up an insert-frame. There you insert the "graphic address" - and then you should see the badge. -
WOFF GOLD? The last major release. :(

...until I must call my mechanics: "Hey, Schulz and Meyer - come and lift me into my cockpit!" -
No idea, Jim - it was cut off. But here is more eye-candy: a real restored Bf109 F "Trop" (could be the one here in Gatow): http://www.jagdgeschwader4.de/index.php/flugwerft-hauptraum/jaeger/messerschmitt-bf-109/g-2-10639

The Bf109-version sent to Africa had the addition "Trop" in it's name. It had a sand filter on the air intake of the compressor. All Bf109s had also little filters in all the oil supply lines, to prevent any little bits and parts getting into the engine.

This post from Winder is very reassuring IMHO - they will carry on making add-ons, I read from it! One other thing - there will still be addons down the road - we are simply mulling the idea of the last 'phase' of OFF/WOFF. Historically for those that have been around a bit: OFF P1 OFF P2 OFF P3 WOFF WOFF2 and finally for 2016 the possibility of WOFF Gold. WM _________________________ OBD Software -

Lou, not only you - I had also thought that JFM had been a member since a long time. I only realised he wasn't when Hauksbee suggested to take Jim in. That only shows again, that we are even barmier than we already pretended! -

Why do you guys see it as dark as that? Maybe Winder, Polovski and the rest of OBD will be happily buzzing around in their favourite mounts, sharing their own impressions, and lots of virtual beer with us? Why not simply have fun with the whole project, when it is finished? The building can't go on forever - but the flying and fighting can go on for more years to come. At least for me. And I hope you will all stay and be around - otherwise it would be only half the fun. -

Well, I don't know if they will build any other sim or game at all - after all they have daytime jobs which are different from sim or game building. I guess they are just exhausted after 10 years of building and building and building - maybe they would simply love to fly and enjoy "WOFF Gold" now, like the rest of us? So I do not expect a "deadly silence" - maybe we even hear more from them; as simmers among simmers? Let them have fun, and give them time. And who knows: maybe one day they make a "comeback"? However - I bet they will release a final version which will deserve the name. A finished, functioning sim for flying fun for years to come.
