I've seen many of them, when I travelled through France several times; you have beautiful villages. -
How do different countries remember the victims of war

Well, today is the 13. November, Lederhosen. Are you not German - with that very Bavarian name? "Volkstrauertag" (national day of mourning) is alway two sundays before the 1. Advent. -
How do different countries remember the victims of war

This picture in Creaghorn's "Volkstrauertag" post shows the WW1 memorial in my hometown Norden. On "Volkstrauertag", a big wrath is placed in front of it. http://combatace.com...post__p__534922 Here is another memorial - they are often not of the best artistic quality, or show the typical monumental soldiers as sculptured by Nazi artist, but they are nevertheless memorials for the fallen of the Great War; most often they show all the names of the fallen soldiers of that community. Personally, I would prefer to show the figures without helmets - after all, when they had fallen, they became again what they really were - not just soldiers, but human beings. On the memorial in my hometown, the names were too many to place around the statue - they are on the walls inside the bell tower. -
A Set of WWI Aviation Books With a Bittersweet Surprise

Twins by the web, I suppose? - I take that for a fine compliment, Sir! -
Sounds more and more like it's worth the money...

A Set of WWI Aviation Books With a Bittersweet Surprise

Lou, that is almost a bit heartbreaking, to think of a mother who lost her beloved son in a far away foreign country, and who goes in her pain to buy these books, as if she could at least, by reading about his deeds, take a little bit - in such a hearttearingly distant way - part in his last month of youthful fighting life; as if to be there with him at least in memoriam, in written lines, when he died. And she writes her name and the date neatly into the book, as if to claim her son, or at least all the collected memories about him, for her home, for her heart. I'm not ashamed to say: this drove tears in my eyes, Sir. Nevertheless - I know you will be reading them with all the possible respect and honouring. They couldn't possibly have come to better hands. -
So, when you have one follower, and the next quest gives you another companion - what happens to the first?
-
True, Lou. And France hasn't changed it's countryside that much since the Great War. When I searched Google Satelite maps for known airfield spots, I found that many villages haven't really grown much, like Toulis for example - the triangular acre which used to be Jasta 12's airfield, is still there. In Germany, you'd probably find newer houses there.

Yes - see Creaghorn's link above for Germany. -
Can you choose the companion, or do you just get what they give you?

At the bell tower to our protestant church in my hometown Norden there is this war memorial for the Great War. I remember that in my childhood days the community put a wrath there on each rememberance day. I don't know if it is still done. May all those boys and men, who fell in that endless thunderstorm of steel, rest in peace.

Found a white feather from WW1 with the letter...

Society's subtle ways of telling you, what they think of you. I liked what someone had only recently written here about two young men, who got pestered by Londoner ladies about cowardice. The one guy answered: "Sorry, but my parents have warned me not to speak to strange people in the street!" -
Yes, type in "Fort de Douaumont, France", and you'll get to that site. Hardly anything left standing though...

For detailed graphics setup, see this "sticky thread": http://combatace.com/topic/60374-an-easy-pictorial-guide-graphics-setup/ Oh, and welcome "between heaven and hell", DanF! When you got started, please send me a PM with your town & country/state, and I'll add you to the OFF Pilots Maps.

Haven't got a hope in the morning (to be sung to the tune of "John Peel") When, oh tell me, when shall P4 come out? OBD, please confirm, and destroy my doubt - will it be before Christmas, will it be this year, or I haven't got a hope in the morning. Chorus: Oh, I'm checking the forum news ev'ry day But the OBD mechanics, not a word they say! Or they tease me with their "soons" and "maybe's" that way, that I haven't got a hope in the morning!"

This will be the "absolute ultimate definite final" DM now? Okay, going to the downloads...

Great photography - thank you, Stary and Widowmaker! Very touching - the only original WW1 soldier's grave with the rusty helmet on it...

Screen Shots, Videos, Media, OFF Posters
Olham replied to MK2's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Oh yes, they are. The high-res is only less pixelated. If you want to have a look through the immense fund of skins in OFF, I recommend to download the freeware IRFANVIEW here: http://www.irfanview.de/ When you have it installed, you go here (whereever the sim is installed): CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields > campaigns > CampaignData > skins You will be amazed what you find there! -
Damn - would you say it's worth 60,- Euro? Quite a lot of money.

Now I could be naughty and say: Last time I've been in an English restaurant, I thought about all the opportunities the English had, when they were in France, to learn some decent cooking - when will they ever learn? But that's also mostly a joke. It counts for many restaurants on your island, where I had that sort of cooking, but I learned to know a little bit of English home cooking as a guest in Devon and Cornwall, and I must say, that was very delicious. And there are surely restaurants, were you would go with me, where the food is great.

I guess we have, Widowmaker - at least we Europeans have. Did anyone believe after all their wars and battles against each other, that Great Britain would ever come over the channel to HELP the French? Would anyone have ever found it possible in 1914, that the French and the Germans would become FRIENDLY neighbours? That all three countries would become the core of a peaceful Europe - together? I want to believe, that all those poor fellers did not give most of their lifetime, and their blood, for nothing. It DID bring a change about - the memory would otherwise just be too painful.

But I guess, changing from rotary to inline should be easier than the other way round? Flying mostly Albatros, I find those rotaries often behaving very quirky.

I will also wait a little. Morris will send me a better graphic card (), and then, when the first bugs are patched, I may get it.

Man, Bullethead, you have a life full of action it seems!
