I wonder if we'll get a Xmas release?

Don't worry, Widow - everyone's doing that. The Greeks are not alone. -
Isn't it?

Geeze - it is still September - Indian Summer! - and they talk about Xmas! There will come the day, when Xmas will be made a whole-year-long event! -
You're right, I think. And it's already decided financially: German book not below 26,- Euro; English book second hand: 2,50 Euro.
-
Now I only wonder, if I should get it in translation, or in English. His book is one of the very few got translated - I actually don't know any other title by a British fighter pilot.

Give that man a fishing rod and a pond with carp in it! No, Hauksbee, I wouldn't say that. The E.V is a turn fighter with a good climb. Wikipedia gives 204 km/h top speed for it - in OFF it doesn't appear so fast to me. But I haven't tried it since some time. I'll do that in the next days.

I wonder how "Sagittarius rising" and the book of (or about) Rhys-Davids will be compared to Lee's book. They are the next two I would like to read.

Looking for an all-red Albatros...
Olham replied to Hauksbee's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
The last Fokker Triplane (No. 425/17) which he died in, was all in red. None of his D.II was red or had red painted parts yet. His Albatros D.III had a red fuselage and tailplane, but camo coloured wings. His Albatros D.V No. 1177/17 was overall red. His Albatros D.V Numbers 4693/17 and 2059/17 were all red, with the exception of the wings. (He sometimes used an Albatros C.IX two-seater for travelling, which was overall red). The German word "Panzer" means "armor". It was already used for the armor of the German knights. Or the Romans, who wore chest armour (Brustpanzer). It is even used for the shielding "armor" of beetles or turtles - all: Panzer. -
Gaaaasp! It feels like having been under water for many, many hours, and now: fresh air at last! Or like it must feel for a fish, when you caught him and show him round and weigh him and make some photographs and all that - and he is finally getting thrown back into his element. I don't know about you others, but without the forum I'm like a gentleman with no club; or like a fish on land. Whatever it was, you forum moderators got me worried there! Sigh!

Don't listen to Widowmaker, Hauksbee - he won't stop ranting about the Fokker E.V until he will receive his damn Sopwith Snipe. I found the E.V is similar to fly like the Nieuport 28. Wide, gentle turns: gently banked, with rudder in turn direction. Tight turns: fully banked, with elevator to get you round. No rudder in turn direction!

Wow - a good shot in every way! -
I'm not a rotary fan, but the craft isn't bad. For better view you could try zooming out one or two notches, Hauksbee.
-
Did you try it out yourself, Carrick? I'd love to!
-
Even Windows couldn't do that to a forum - none of the versions.

Arthur Gould Lee's book was recommended by me many times here, but to say it again: Lee hasn't only written great, informative and illustrating letters almost daily, which are compiled in the book "No parachute!". What any German readers may find very special about it, is the fact that Lee never paints one of those sinister clichee images of his German opponents, but he describes their actions and ways much the same as he does about his Entente comrades. He was a very intelligent man, who could see very well beyond any propaganda, and he was well aware, that the pilots in the planes with the cross on were actually much the same as his own comrades - young men, young pilots, trying to survive the everyday madness of the Great War. I haven't read enough about WW1 aviation, that I could say it is definitely one of the best books you could read. But it is more than enough for me to know, that Shredward, RAF_Louvert or Dej say this about the book. Oh, yes, and you too, mighty. And yes: CATCH 22 is something very special too!

Ah, I am very glad you like it, Hauksbee - I do all my flying with it since a long time, and it never broke yet. (three knocks on wood!)

You can't have everything.
-
Oh, I didn't know that.
-
Just found these two paintings by Steve Anderson over at "The Aerodrome". I guess they'd make good desktop backgrounds.
-
There are differing opinions about the plural of that plane. Personally, I wouldn't use a plural of a technical name - Albatros here doesn't mean the bird; so why say Albatri. I'd say: one Sopwith Camel, many Sopwith Camel; one Spitfire, many Spitfire etc. As for Jasta 28 - I can't find a Jasta 28 skin for the D.II, so there weren't any D.II in that Jasta. There is Jasta 23 - could you have misread it?
-
Roundels? Jugs? Where???!
-
All the best with the colours, Widow!
-
Hmm - I wouldn't - they look so vital. Wasp-ishly dangerous! Perhaps tone them down only a little, and try to raise the other, flat yellow?
