  1. PS: don't give up getting to the more realistic flying, everyone. I am slowly getting there more and more, I believe. I am flying OFF since Phase 2, and first I only just wanted to rule the sky; to shoot down any and all enemy craft, as long as my ammunition would last. Today I am still flying with less care than I would, if it could cost my real life. But my interest in getting it more realistic, is growing with my knowledge about the whole WW1 air combat and the flyers. The more I read, the more I know what would feel realistic. The more respect do I grow for the RL pilots. The "Fighting Fury" is slowly changing into the feeling you might have, if you had "No Parachute". I felt all the time, that I cannot force to be like that. I could not sit down at the monitor and decide: from now on I'll fly it realistic. It had to grow for me, and is still growing. So, don't give it up, everyone - it may just take it's time.
  2. When I read the title of you post, Hellshade, I was really wondering, what kill rates you might regard as realistic, seeing your fighting style??? You mention the most important mod to make the kill rates more realistic, and it is a mod that must be brought up by each player himself: the fear of his death; the deepest desire to survive the war. That may be hard to do for most of us. But the mods are all very good for getting in that direction, surely. Elephant, I forgot: was your tracer mod uploaded? I lost it when I got the new rig, and I'd like to try it again.
  3. British Summertime

Good one, Widow! Although I can't complain; here in Berlin we had summer weather most of the time. Maybe you should try Windows 7, with the latest updates?
  4. Ah, I see - and I could have sworn they were AI flown planes...
  5. Sorry, Flyby, but I HAVE seen AI aircraft working together, at least in a most simple way. Firstly, they do work together, when they are wingmen of yours, and you order them to attack a specific target. Also, when you call for "Help!" repeatedly - they will come and attack each enemy craft near you. But I don't think that is what you meant. Then, I recently had a fight versus No. 56 Squadron, RFC. Those pilots worked together at least in that way, that whenever I stuck with one for longer than just a few shots, and even chased the S.E.5a, a wingman would appear and attack me fiercely.
  6. As I said - I had missed the posts, which were the final straws. I understand your decision, and I guess you were even more patient with him than many others would have been. Thank you for taking the time to explain, Fast Cargo.
  7. Yes, Jerry Boucher's stuff is perhaps quite clean and very realistic, but with that special touch, that the art on model kit boxes used to have - somehow dynamic IMHO. Here's another: Quite similar, but with more juicey colours is this painting by Steve Anderson: "Twilight of the Jagdflieger"
  8. Yes, I have once had a German officer's cap from WW1 in my hands, and in the cap was a stitched emblem saying the name and address of the tailor shop. Funny, it was in Berlin-Lichterfelde, Gardeschützenweg - the street my Berlin grandparents lived in. The Kaiser's barracks were just down the road, and he may have earned his livelihood with tailoring uniforms. A pity I was not so deeply interested in WW1 stuff then - I should have bought it.
  9. changing things manually?

I guess there is a lot more missing than just nuances, Creaghorn - it sometimes feels like there's a whole wing missing.
  10. ...and this shorter one, maybe cut together: The Horror in Colour
  11. changing things manually?

Zweiundvierzig! But is your name Lederhosen?
  12. Nope, I have never even heard of it. I was also just searching, and found these coloured films again. They had been posted here, but some may not have seen this yet. Der Erste Weltkrieg in Farbe - Teil 1 (The First World War in Colour - Part 1) Der Erste Weltkrieg in Farbe - Teil 2 (The First World War in Colour - Part 2)
  13. changing things manually?

Whenever you should have a question so difficult, that you could only ask it in German, feel free to do so, lederhosen.
  14. Is my hearing aid on?
  15. Thank you all for your points of view, and I know they are all mostly right, and what I also think is true. The negative ones as the positive ones. It made me sad to see someone banned, who has been with the OFF Forum since P2 - maybe since P1. But you guys are also right, who say, that a grown up person should learn to behave like one. He had his warnings surely. A re-appearance in another guise would be impossible for him I guess, Widowmaker - that would be like an elephant putting on thick glasses with a cardboard nose and moustache, and a blue bowler hat. UncleAl was an original - in his bad as in his good moments. Farewell, Unc!
  16. wierd flight routes

lederhosen, you can NOT have both the "Active Sector" and the "Quiet sector" mods in the right JSGME window. You must decide before, what type your sector is, and then activate the according mod; either "active" or "passive".
  17. changing things manually?

If you mean the date of a campaign pilot: you only need to open the pilot's dossier, and change it there. You find the pilot dossier here: (your sim folder) > campaigns > CampaignData > pilots The first lines will look like this: 91 Germany Jasta 2 Oberleutnant Wolfram Harms 13 8 1917 14 14 3156 21 6 1917 - So this pilot's actual date is 13 August 1917. You can now just advance the date and save the file. Note: when a pilot is Pilot No. 2 in the ingame log, he will be one no. higher in the files; he will be Pilot3.
  18. Well, you mentioned Boelcke. He may have been the first to write down rules of engagement - the "Dicta Boelcke": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dicta_Boelcke Mannock also had written down his rules: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Mannock#Mannock.27s_rules
  19. Skies of Blue...

Slarti, I can only fully ditto Lou's comment! It created strong pictures in me.
  20. Brand new DM and FM now ready!

I have "main guns" set to "normal" always, and I still had Jasta 2 ace Frommherz flying around as an endless flamer yesterday, Creaghorn. Do I miss something? Is there another setting you mean?
  21. PS: here is an excerpt from Wikipedia: "Another drawback of the Triplane was its light armament. While contemporary Albatros fighters were armed with two guns, most Triplanes were armed with a single synchronized Vickers machine gun. Efforts to fit twin guns to the Triplane met with mixed results. Clayton & Shuttleworth built six experimental Triplanes with twin guns. Some of these aircraft saw combat service with Nos. 1 and 10 Naval Squadrons in July 1917, but performance was reduced and the single gun remained standard."
  22. Is the additional weight of the second machine gun considered? I guess, the twin gun Tripe was less agile?
  23. I'm always amazed again, how "BHaH" is still able to surprise even veteran flyers.
  24. The man who preserves the inner child in him, will feel he has a longer life. I wish you comfortably warm winter reading, Lou - if they last so long.
  25. Just found this interesting website or blog with the war diary of a Dieter Finzen, which was now, 93 years later, released there. It looks authentic to me, but I'm easily led. What do you historians think? http://dieter-finzen.blogspot.com/search/label/Aufkl%C3%A4rungsabteilung%20-%20MI%20Section
