  1. Pics of WWI

I have been there several times too. Why should they close it?
  2. Doesn't sound too pricy for that offer - let me join you guys!
  3. My 4000th Post!

Lou, if you guys could bring a British uniform and cap with your Crossley to this point I have marked on the map, then I would love to join your Tour d'Amiens. We don't have any red paint left unfortunately - a certain German nobleman and ace seems to have his long arms everywhere for this colour - but we have a huge can of Mauve for the wings, which I could bring with me? Red and Mauve? How does that sound? Geeze, I just checked my own postings, and I'm afraid I will have to pay half the slate at least! Not only feeling old - I feel like a chatterbox!
  4. Welcome in the mess, Thomas! I'll have a virtual Warsteiner - a large one, please! Are you patrolling "Over Flanders Fields" already, or yet only waiting and lurking?
  5. An architect with a "green thumb" (as we say here for someone, who has a hand for gardening)!
  6. OT Deadly Cucumbers

Yep, it looks like it is extremely dangerous. And it shows, how dependant we are from food industries. Worst case scenario would be, that it could have been an assault.
  7. Oh yeah, that is masterly, how he made it. Jammer and MikeDixon have made story-type videos; very good stuff!
  8. I uploaded another video. Not because of the victories - we all know, that the AI is easier to shoot down than a real human pilot. No, but I had forced one Camel down intact. I landed near it, and that's what I like about this recording. The music is the Violin Concerto in D minor by Sergej Katchaturyan. Enjoy! PS: I don't know what YouTube did to it - there are some nasty "colour-cracks" - sorry about that!
  9. Mighty, I don't normally fight like that either. But here, we were still in our climbing rounds, when the attack came, and the Triplanes had the altitude advantage. They used it like energy fighters, and I could hardly ever get at them. But I saw my friends being in constant threat, and so I fired at very long ranges, to drive the Tripehounds off my friends. We were totally surprised, and I am flying that pilot without any help like Labels or TAC. So most of the time, I did not know what was going on around me.
  10. Standard-built Pup

Yes, I must say that the Sopwith Pup is a very fine aircraft I would have liked to fly on the British side.
  11. OFF Forum Pilots Maps

Update 2 June 2011 - 21:00 h Berlin summer time (= GMT + 2) Mafiozo, Israel, added. I had to do a larger new Europe map - welcome our first Forum pilot from Israel ! The maps are in post 1 of this thread
  12. Well, as I said, the question for your essay could be, how much warfare changed, since the conflicting parts could now see each other's positions and weak spots; and could attack targets far behind the front. They could collect photographic evidence of the enemy's movements, which could now be evaluated by intelligence. The whole idea of air superiority is about that, and the logical high tech evolution led to satelites. Just my 2 pence.
  13. What a commotion! If you don't have time - don't fly in 1918. You just won't be able to warp! Testflying my new Jasta 37 skin, I had to fight Camels (hordes of!), and in the second sortie we had to save two Pfalz D.IIIa from several SPAD XIII and 2 Bristol Fighters. On the way back to our home field we saw Flak puffs everywhere. Well, it's April, and "Operation Michael" is fully underway. This pilot won't get old, I'm afraid.
  14. Standard-built Pup

Wow - now that is a REAL hobby for men! Fine work - almost art!
  15. Looking at that picture, I wonder, what the constallation of buildings is? Looks like airfield barracks and hangars to me. Is this a new airfield, Pol, Winder?
  16. Track Air

TrackIR 5 Pro new: 150,- Dollar http://www.pcaviator...CFca-zAodkFtgtQ VR Insight Headtrack new: 99,95 Dollar http://www.fspilotsh...CFQK-zAodCxxmtg I don't know the second one, Carrick, but it seems to have 6 DOF - like TrackIR.
  17. Okay, I say it: the scenery isn't good - - it is no less but brilliant! I may be repeating myself, but as a graphic designer I studied art for a bit too, and I have seen many a computer game and many a sim, where the colours of the figures and craft were okay, but the scenery was lacking this - vibrancy; this spiritedness. Many a user may not be so aware, how hard it is to achieve this; how rarely it is achieved. When I "come home" to my airfield", flying over the landscape, I enjoy "bathing in it"! (It's not fair, Pol - for you, it is now 00:22 h, but for me it is already 02:22 h. So: good night!)
  18. OT Deadly Cucumbers

Mixed with Cheddar - hmmmm! Ploughman's Lunch was always delicious in England; although I'm not sure anymore, if it had cucumber with it. But definitely Cheddar and pickled onions and radishes!
  19. OFF BHaH HitR Likes Speed

PS: you may have to unlock the lock first. You'll get a warning message not to do things you don't know etc., but you can do the "Auto-Tune".
  20. OFF BHaH HitR Likes Speed

JFM, you could check, if your graphic card offers a "tune-up test" like mine does. It will then auto-detect the max. speed for all settings. That would be a safe solution I think. In my ATI Catalyst Control Center, that is under "Performance" > "AMD Overdrive" there is a button "Auto Tune".
  21. OFF BHaH HitR Likes Speed

You didn't mention CPU speed yet, Lou ? I made the experience after upgrading mobo and CPU, that everything runs smoother at higher graphic settings - although I did not change the graphic card.
  22. OFF BHaH HitR Likes Speed

Thanks for the reminder, Lou. I have posted a video yesterday, and it has - during very quick head movements (TrackIR) - those jaggies at the outer edges. I will check, if I can make my ATI HD4870 a little faster.
  23. Main guns are on "normal". After installing OFF on my new rig, I still need to reinstall Creaghorn+elephant tracers; the default ones are too bright and too large. Yes, I was mostly climbing after the Tripes, which makes aiming hard, cause I often was close to stalling, and the good Albatros went shaky there. I will soon post another video with a more elegant fighting style. The Tripes being turnfighters, did not make very much of their strengths. But so are most all AI aircraft yet. The Albatros I see getting shot up in others' videos are rarely performing their real strength: energy fighting. In RL, they would zoom&boom like hell and give even the good turn fighters a difficult time that way. At least the veteran pilots would. Also, they fought like a wolfpack - in the later war months, they could only hold their own by working extremely well together. I hope very much, that the devs (mostly RexHannover, I think) will be able to improve that for P4.
  24. Fokker E14/15

Couldn't the devs go even a bit further in masquerade, by giving it more strength and twin Spandaus? That could lure even me into flying them again. Bullethead - if you still have enough space below, when she falls sideways: give her full rudder in the same direction, and stick in opposite, until her nose points down instead of her wingtip; then catch her up. If you DON'T have enough space - well, then it may be even too short for a prayer. I try to avoid tighter turns at low altitude. But hey! I even downed two Nieuport 11 with my Eini!
  25. Well, TaillyHo, I'm not the "hawkeye" really. The "trick" was, that during the whole fighting, I had crossed my path with Gerhard Bassenge's several times (his hallmark is a black fuselage with white bands around it aft of the cockpit). After the cutting, you don't see it so clearly, but I knew, that he had flown in opposite direction and was behind me, and higher. But to be honest, the guy who shot up the Tripe might have been his wingman. But when he passed over my craft after the kill, I thought I saw that black-white fuselage. I used Bassenge's name as a narrative addition to the story, cause I thought, some here would know him as a Jasta 2 ace. My fighting here was not at all elegant. We were still climbing, while the Triplanes as the attackers were higher, and they made good use of their energy, by flying almost boom and zoom. So I could never really reach any, they were always faster. That's why I wasted a lot of ammo in long distance shots. I wanted to keep them away from my friends and to damage them at least, to make them easier prey for the others. elephant, I had the same problem with my previous system. Running the sim, plus TrackIR, plus FRAPS is quite a lot to calculate for the CPU. I cannot say, if it would help to drop Anti-Aliasing - worth a try. You must check then, if it is set up in OFF Graphics Config (where it never worked for me) or in your GPU's control manager. Best is to switch off everywhere. You won't see that in the video.
