  1. OT German V British Manners

Very interesting, Widowmaker. Yes, I noticed a lot of what she is writing about. But it's not all completely "chiseled in stone" that way. She found (or verified) that Germans really don't do small talk, those little phrases so familiar to the British about the weather or a person's general well-being, but which she describes as "empty verbiage". This is not totally true - we have that in Germany too. How are the kids? How's your granny? The weather is supposed to get better; etc. Maybe we don't do it as much as the British and Americans, that's true. But if you have a ride in a taxi, you often begin a conversation by talking about the weather or such. Saying things like "It's nice to meet you" are rarely meant the way they are said, she says. "It's just words. It's simulating interesting in the other person." From a German perspective, this is uncomfortably close to deceit. This is often true, but again, not always. We also have such "pretended interest" by asking the neighbour "Is your back a little better now?" or "It's nice to see you again!" But maybe we don't do it so much. Sometimes it's endearing, or at least the British think it is, as when this announcement was made by British Airways pilot Eric Moody in 1982, after flying through a cloud of volcanic ash over Indonesia: "Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We have a small problem. All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them going again. I trust you are not in too much distress." Very British, indeed! I would prefer a British Captain in situations of distress - the way they would tell me would be almost comforting the panicing soul. I noticed, that my English friend's wife often said "I'm afraid I don't know that." And I was wondering about that - why should she be afraid? What about those sun-loungers - the seats by the pool, which German holidaymakers allegedly grab at the crack of dawn? "I think what you've got there is a clash of prototypical German efficiency with the prototypical British sense of fair play," says Bousfield. This is true, and it's a very bad habit of many Germans in holidays. Some seem to even get up earlier, just to make sure they can place their towels on the chairs, and so occupy them first. I really hate such behaviour!!! But you see - I'm German - and I would hate to do it.
  2. Some here said, that the windshield could be lowered on some kites - not sure how though? Duke, even without being half German, it must be allowed to say, that the Albatros have a good view.
  3. Alright, Lou! I hope you can fly some missions now? I wish you blue skies, and some fine sorties.
  4. The Albatros D.Va disappoints me in OFF. In real life, the craft wasn't much of an improvement over the D.V, but still a little. In OFF, the D.Va feels worse than the D.V IMHO.
  5. The Pfalz was used quite some time in the elite Jasta 10, so I don't think it was a bad aircraft. But you're right, Widowmaker, she's not a turnfighter. You have to fly her fully according to the rules for energy fighters. Then you can get SPADs in her. The Pfalz is the perfect aircraft for balloon attacks; she performs the steepest dives very stable.
  6. Duke, I feel the same in the Nupe, but from all pics I've seen, it seems to have been quite a small crammed aircraft. Have you tried to zoom out one or two notches? May help to eliminate that feeling. But if you like perfectly free vision, come to "the dark side" and fly the Albatros, or the Pfalz D.IIIa. After that, you'll be spoiled for anything else, visionwise. The Fokker Dr.1 is an "instable aircraft". That means, you cannot really trim it. The crafts position is completely determined by what the pilot does with the stick. That makes her tricky to fly first, but when you know her, she's a hell of a turndevil.
  7. "Mmuahahahahahahahaaaaaaa!!!!!!" Lou, I see you disabled "In Cloud Effect". I thought that was to make the haze/fog in the clouds? Or is it something else?
  8. Thank you very much, elephant! I like that Jasta 23 hallmark tailplane painting very much, and I will add another pilot to my roster, with Jasta 23b, Aniche, March 1918. If I get his skin ready, I will send you a generic skin of it, with no emblems.
  9. A couple of questions...

St.Mard - another airfield I have yet to fly from. Was that Jasta 23b? I don't believe you can edit your squad mates as aces, elephant. Seems, that CFS3 offers one ace flight, and one "player flight". But who knows - perhaps someone with better programming knowledge can find a way?
  10. Joystick Woes

If it first gets to work, but later suddenly fails to work, I wonder if it could be your AV program stopping it, because it identifies it as "unauthorised program"? Perhaps you stop your AV for the sim and try it then?
  11. Joystick Woes

Funny - I am lefthanded, but I need to control the joystick with the right hand.
  12. ...like that Nieuport 24 I once shot down - it had "Pol" written on it. (To be precise: I shot it down FIRST - before reading that. Not BECAUSE it carried "Pol". I only saw it, when I paused and circled round the craft in external view, for a screenshot).
  13. Seems the "performance rate" is pretty simple, when it only rates the system after the slowest part.
  14. Yep, that may be right, Lewie. I just wanted to know, where everyone stands. May also help the devs with decisions about hardwarehungry developments, I thought. But if it won't be more "hungry" than P3 - even better.
  15. I believe, that many men might "beef up" an event they had no witnesses for. Human nature, I suppose. Who is really completely free of this?
  16. Dammit - I could kill the bank managers!!!
  17. Welcome to OFF, Notary Sojac! If you send me a message with your town and country, I'll add you to our OFF Pilots maps.
  18. A couple of questions...

It's a tricky thing - not sure if it works. But make sure to also save this folder: (your computer name) > AppData > Roaming > Microsoft > CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields If you have Windows XP I don't know where it was. I have no knowledge, if it will work, but it's worth a try.
  19. That will not be enough. There are data saved under "(your computer name) > AppData > Roaming > Microsoft > CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields". And even if you save and replace those, it might still not work. But it's worth a try.
  20. A couple of questions...

One thing that often repairs everything is to "Reset OFF Manager" - but you'd loose all your pilots that way.
  21. Okay, elephant, now that you say that, I have added that point. I really wonder, where the world economics are going. They urgently need to get reformed, but how, and by whom?
  22. Duke, here's how it looks in German Windows. Sorry I don't know the right English descriptions. My system is rated 5,9, cause my slowest part is the harddrive. With an SSD I could be over 7, I suppose.
  23. A couple of questions...

Try a "Quick Combat" flight at dusk or dawn, elephant, they look great! Second screenshot is superb! Maybe airfields are so bright. But I tried a night mission from British_eh (see: downloads), and it was pretty blueish-dark everywhere, and very believeable. I could just see where I was going.
