  1. Thanks, and a question

Adger, I also missed "Red Baron 3D", but I know why: I listened to others. Here in Germany , the game magazines said it was crapp. I will never follow the oppinions of others so easily anymore - I now prefer to find out myself.
  2. Types of missions?

Sorry, Javito, didn't see your post earlier. I think it is an original b/w photograph, coloured_/retouched later. Irritatingly, the guy standing in the cockpit left, looks like a twin of me in my younger days. I found it in a forum; here is the link - there are more coloured pictures: http://www.ww2aircra...ft-factory.html And here are many coloured photos of WW1 planes, at "The Vintage Aviator": http://thevintageavi...z/image/tid/136
  3. Ground battles!

Screenshots would have been nice! Yep, I also only discovered the detail of the ground attacks after almost two years of flying, and I was stunned. PS: Screenshots would have been really nice!
  4. Thanks, and a question

We know how you must suffer. It's part of the pilots' training, you know? Strengthening your patience; your ability to hold on waiting for the right moment for an attack, instead of pouncing like a total rookie. Saves lives, you know? Good answers, Hellshade and cptroyce. You can only know if you'd like a game or a sim, when you try it out. I am a great fan of "STALKER" and cannot understand, why some others, who like "FALLOUT 3", do not like it at all. Computer games and Sims must combine with your own imagination, with your likes for colours, for the whole way a scene, a scenario is "painted". It is really like with arts, with paintings. Everyone has a different taste. I realised, that a more photo-realistic overall look does NOT make a sim feel better. More attractive at first sights, yes, may be. But then comes the acid test: does it "draw you into it's world"? The degree of possible immersion with a game or a sim is the point IMHO. You'll find out soon.
  5. Types of missions?

Lewie, I have heard about a women in Canada, climbing all the way up onto a tall pine tree, when a bear was after her. And she suffered from vertigo! Later she couldn't explain how she got up there at all. So I'm sure the gunner would get into the cockpit somehow. It was just the "jumping" I would have found quite impressive.
  6. Mission doesn't end properly?

That's nasty. Maybe it is always a certain danger to mess with the pilot files? You only overlook one thing, and it may go haywire.
  7. Types of missions?

Hard to imagine, how anyone should be able to "jump into the cockpit" of a Fee??? They used ladders for that. But perhaps he was "fear-propelled"?

I would like to say: it is great to belong to the early discoverers of "Over Flanders Fields". This is the greatest of all games & sims I have ever been able to put my hands on!
  9. New Book

Well, I got the book, and I must say, it gives you a very good time table about MvR's development. It is much tighter than some of the well-known books, but despite that, it gives you many very good photos (some of which I had never seen before), very interesting percentage-, comparing and break- down charts, and profiles of all aircraft MvR had flown (graphics and texts) - including the craft for his personal transport - the rare, red Albatros C.IX. At the end, Jim presents three well researched and founded chapters about often quoted and repeated statements or conclusions, about MvR's abilities as a pilot (it was said, his piloting abilities were not so very good); about him being a "bloodthirsty killer", and about "Rivalry and Competition". JFM was able to shine new lights on these cut and dried oppinions of earlier researchers - with some very interesting outcomes. I also read Peter Kilduff's famous book "The Red Baron - Beyond the Legend", which I definitely recommend. But IMHO, Jim's book offers a better first introduction into the carreer, the way of Manfred von Richthofen. It follows his carreer neatly - including his time as an observer at the Eastern front, and his time on the Roland C.II "Walfisch" two-seater. So I would recommend to read this first, before "diving into more details".

Indeed, Hasse Wind, indeed! Bletchley, you won't have done all the work for nothing - P4 may still be some time away. I surely will continue my campaign with FA 62 and change to the fighters in June.
  11. Not much spare time at Jasta 5 in May 1917. Vizefeldwebel Harms' crew is two men short by now. His wingman Heinz Staack is a very good and reliable pilot; also No. 2, Theodor Aumann. But his No. 3, Albert Brandenburg is missing in action since two days, and No. 4 Reinhold Ludwig did not return to base after this last sortie. They were still climbing for altitude above their field, when they saw Flak puffs in the west. When they proceeded to defend Premont airfield against any enemy attacks, Vzfw. Harms sighted 5 Albatros from Jasta 18 higher ahead. He had last seen those Nieuports in that direction. And really: out of the haze, the Albatros got attacked by the silver French craft! Harms hurried to get to help them, but it took painfully long, and he had to witness one Albatros going down with a trail of dark smoke behind him. But the Albatrosses tried to dive away from the attack, and so the French, following them, got in reach for Harms' flight. And his flight did attack them hard - after two minutes, two Nieuport went down! Harms had shot the whole top wing off his victim's craft, and Aumann had the other. Now Jasta 18 also fought back, and within less than 10 minutes, all other Nieuports had either run for home or were shot down. Flying above Premont, Harms' flight noticed a flight of Sopwith scouts approaching the field. But out of the blue, they were under attack by the red-tailed Albatrosses of Jasta 11! After less than 5 minutes the Pups were all destroyed! A little later, another flight of N 24 appeared and came down on Harms' flight. They must have shot down or driven off Reinhold Ludwig, who is still missing. But three more Nieuports now fell under the guns of Jasta 5; Harms shot down his second. The French craft crashed at 11:17 h, 6 Kilometer west of Premont aerodrome.

  13. Where is Duce Lewis?

Even if I was very ill, I would be happy to be remembered by some forum members. And if he gave you his address, I'm sure you can write to him. Please send him my best wishes for his health, and for his family, if you should write, von Paulus.
  14. 1916(1) Mod

Alright, Bletch - thanks for the info. Well, the DH-2 flight was uncommonly small with 3 craft. Never seen so few before. What I noticed was, that the flightpath in the ingame map was much longer, and totally crazy, than in your briefing map.
  15. 1916(2) MOD

Bletchley, you may have to clear your "message folder". When it's full, it won't receive any more.
  16. Where is Duce Lewis?

Yeah, several "old and well known faces" have disappeared at the horizon somehow. I wish you all the best too, Duce - whereever you are.
  17. I wanna have a face off with MvR

Not many could report to have seen him this close, and got away - with a picture even! As for his comrades - they were there. And it was good, that you didn't think of attacking the lone "red battleflyer", MackIroy.
  18. Ah? I didn't realise that. In my first install, I didn't even have a "mod" folder. All the mods were in the main folder! JSGME still found them though. Well, now I know better.
  19. Types of missions?

The Fee is better than it's reputation here, Hasse Wind. You are an experienced pilot. So you will quickly learn, how to handle her. I even fought MvR's Jasta 11 in one (didn't pick the fight though - he did), and using shallow dives for gaining speed for tight turns, she behaved quite well. One advice: if you are not a top shot on the MGs, let the gunner do that - he is really good at it; while you will be much more helpful at the stick. PS: MvR concentrated on another craft in that fight, but Karl Allmenröder chased us all the way over the lines, and he shot quite a bit of fabric out of the kite, and then he killed the engine. But we had crossed the mud and I could put her down in one piece.
  20. Yep, and you don't have to do anything much. You install JSGME in the sim's main folder. Then you create a folder also there, called "mods". Throw the mods you want to use into this folder. Now you see the mods in the left frame of JSGME. And to activate it, you move it per arrow key into the right frame - and done. You can always remove it the other way round.
  21. 1916(1) Mod

I have started a German campaign with FA 62, Douai, on 1 May 1916. Have flown one mission, and as you say, Bletchley, it was a "Lone Wolf" mission. I guess I was right choosing "Active Sector" for the area Douai? At least we met one flight of 4 BE2c; and on returning, we sighted 3 Airco DH-2 crossing behind us, high. Here is my full report: http://combatace.com...post__p__487333 It was fun to fly, cause it brings some change into OFF, as I knew it. I guess, the devs may also create more such variety for P4, once they have more planes done. Thank you for your working out of all this, Bletchley and British_eh.
  22. I wanna have a face off with MvR

Okay, now I have checked the craft at Wikipedia. What I found was a twin engine craft. But you're kidding me: that type would NEVER outperform a Messerschmidt Bf-109. And definitely not, when it was even outnumbered by them. That must be one of those "heads up stories" to fire the morale. Or the German pilots were all drunk.
  23. I wanna have a face off with MvR

I didn't even know the Avro Anson.
  24. I wanna have a face off with MvR

Lewie, if you try that, your best chance is your turn ability. If he hits you, your sawdust. But he would find it hard with his higher speed, to get behind you.
  25. Massive member Failure!

Okay, thank you, Javito - I had that done already.I have also added "CFS3 Exe", just in case.
