  1. Fateful Morn

Same for me - I never saw the upper two pics before. I like to fly No. 24 Squadron RFC, and these pics give me a closer touch - thank you, JFM!
  2. cute

A cute kite! Quite an impressive sound.
  3. screen-shot of Pilot log

You press Ctrl + Print (top right on the keyboard). Then you close OFF and open Paint or Photoshop, or a similar program. There you create a new file. It should already have the size of your screen resolution. Then you press Ctr + V ("insert"), and you should now see your picture.
  4. Of course we will have you back! It is always hard for me to ask for pardon, when I did something wrong, and I guess, it is for everyone. You have made this step, and that's a good sign of character. We all here knew anyway, that OFF is great. But now you will surely find out yourself more and more. The learning takes a long time, until you will feel less cramped; until you gain a more relaxed overview. So take your time for that learning. It will pay. I think we shall forgive you - what do you guys say?... What? Not all at once... aahhh - yes, they are right: you will have to buy the drinks this evening! Alright? Well then - I will have a virtual Warsteiner Pilsener!
  5. A man like Hitler would have been unreliable for the British. Hess may have really meant that; he was supposed to be a less hard Nazi - but then the whole ideology is better down the drain! I still have nice memories for travelling England, as a free man in a free country - not as a member of an occupying force. Under that lot, I wouldn't have been able to breathe properly.
  6. Your stable of starting pilots?

Duke, if you want to find out in OFF, just enter the "Enlist new pilot" and go through the squadrons. You will see in the blackboard stripe at the right, which aircraft a squadron will get. When you found your plane among them, click the time advanve button above, to check, when they will have that plane, and where they will be then (on the map). To leave it, just click okay - nothing will happen, cause you didn't enter a name.

  8. Don't worry - I can understand almost any excitement for aircraft, and the big Dornier Do 335 was a special craft. It came - lucky for the bomber crews - too late to see service. The concept of one tractor and one pusher engine was pretty unique, and the craft was very fast. Here is one which got tested by the British at Farnborough. Photo courtesy of HWL Images. Dornier has restored this craft for the American Smithsonian Institute some years ago, and it was exhibited in Germany for a while, before it travelled back to New York.
  9. Your stable of starting pilots?

No. 45 and 46 Squadrons RFC should be good for Camel operations. And of course No. 3 Squadron RNAS. As for the Pfalz: this craft was supposed to take over from the Albatros D.V, but wasn't an improvement. So many Jastas stayed with their Albatros. But the Pfalz is a sturdier craft - with her, you can make a steep and fast dive, without breaking the craft. So, after an attack with altitude advantage, you can dive away fast. Only the S.E.5a and SPADs can follow that. Hasse Wind should be more of an expert for this craft - he flew it for quite some time.
  10. You landed on a road? Near Cambridge??? In a Dornier 335????? Man, it's time you received OFF!!!
  11. OT I nearly lost my best friend

Man, Widowmaker - good, that my keyboard is waterproof. I know what you mean, old boy. Still today, I see my German Sheppard dog in my mind. I had left him with my parents in Ostfriesland, when I went to study graphic design in Berlin. And one day my mother called and told me, that they had let him put to sleep. They had not even asked me. They said he had cancer, and I couldn't have done anything, but still - I wished they had asked me. I wish you and Max some more years to spend together - and I'm sure you will treasure every minute.
  12. Some of my busiest dogfights I had with Jasta 5 - damn, it is sometimes so crowded, you could walk over the wings and strangle your opponents! Well, almost... Here is some of last flight's action. First, Richard Flashar's 1. Kette ran into a swarm of Triplanes. That took place some 1.000 feet above my flight, and we could not get there fast enough. I was lucky though and shot down one Tripe which had come down to see, who we are. After that intense fighting, I tried to lead my Kette back to Boistrancourt airfield, when we got chased by 10 -12 British Nieuport 17 Lewis. I could shoot one craft down before my ammo was out. After that, I managed to guide my wingmen good enough, to make them shoot down another three Nupes. Phew - that was a straining sortie!
  13. Your stable of starting pilots?

Yes - they were occupied in the last big German offensive. I like the area - beautiful terrain.
  14. Your stable of starting pilots?

I'm flying German mostly, and there the Albatros variants. Must be love at first sight. But I like to fly in different areas and Jastas. I have been flying with many of them, but still not with all. If I should make a choice of my top 5 Jastas, I'd say: 1. Jasta 2 2. Jasta 5 3. Jasta 21 4. Jasta 28w 5. MFJ I My favourite time for German pilots is from the first appearance of the Albatros (Sept. 1916) to the autumn of 1917 (I don't like fying in grey and dull weather, so I often start pilots with the beginning of May). If I fly British: - the DH-2 in RFC-24, Bertangles-West, early 1916 - the S.E.5a in 56 Squadron - the Triplane with RNAS If I fly French: - the SPAD XIII in northern Flanders mostly My favourite airfields are - Lagnicourt 1916 (Flanders) - La Selve and Bantheville (Marne region), Wasquehal, Brayelles and Roucourt (Flanders) in 1917 - Vivaise (Marne), Ercheu and Cappy (Somme) in 1918
  15. Ah, I see - I don't seem to be quite the strategist.
  16. Here is a photo visit at Douaumont. One sign reads: "ICI ETAIT DOUAUMONT - Here was Douaumont" http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Europe/France/East/Lorraine/Douaumont/photo507261.htm
  17. Yes, it does. I will have to catch up with you. Right now I'm still digging through the English book "The Red Baron" by Peter Kilduff. But I'm not so very much the Richthofen fan - at least not yet, but there is still about half the book to read.. I will next try to find stuff about Jasta 2 or Jasta 5.
  18. No problem, Duke - I often do the same. The eyes, you know? I have always one pilot, who I only fly with, when I want to do it fully realistc, without any aids. But it is very straining, and I can only do that, when I have a lot of time and peace at hand. Then there are the other moments, when I just want to have some fighting. If you really want to try it the hard way, I recommend to fly a German Jasta. Pick one that is "Elite", like Jasta 2 or 11, and you will have good wingmen. The Germans hardly ever cross the lines. That has two advantages: - you will not be a POW, when you have to put your damaged crate down - you will have Flak warnings and guidance The latter is extremely helpful. Once you see the black puffs, you can pause, and use the zooming in like a field glass. Make sure your opponents are at disadvantage, before you attack, or fly away, if that can't be achieved. It is great fun to fly full realistic (I even use paper maps then). But also quite tiring.
  19. When you have ever been to the English countryside, you wouldn't understand, how anyone could throw bombs on there. Sightseeing: yes - bombs: never! Good, that they weren't very successful - 1 person killed and a damage worth only 599 Pounds cannot have been worth sending out 5 Luftschiffe and putting them at such risk.
  20. I guess, the maps are in colour? That makes a book all with colour maps quite expensive to print.
  21. Just had an "eye-stroll" through some of the Members' Galleries here (click on Gallery above). Here is one pic, that looks like a very detailed WW2 Pacific sim. Does anyone know what it is?
  22. Mmuahahahahahaaaaa!!!!! Indeed, that SPAD VII is going down. But at that time, I did not have any ammo left. My wingmen Hantelmann and Dietzel brought it down. This was a terrible day for RFC - we eliminated at least 4 of their SPAD VII. I had fought a long fight against an ace - the name was something with Edmond or so in the middle, but I was so concentrated, that I forgot to pause and read it . When my ammo was out, I managed to guide my wingmen to two more victories. They can be useful!
  23. Where did you guys get that mod and the campaigns?
  24. As the pilot is Juergen Harms, the bird is indeed "Harmonius".
