Try again from Bertangles West - you should find the size of the field quite appropriate. -

Those guards are never that clever, as we know from so many English films, don't we? They are wearing a helmet, that is either too big or too small, and they don't even find 20 partisans in the hay on the back of a truck! So you would never hear: "Gehtzumbier? Ah - you are an English officer in civilian clothes, I guess, and you are trying to get to Chimay with this gentleman, who obviously is not a fake German, and therefor I beg your pardon, Herr Oberleutnant - of course you can pass, and I have never seen you with this Englishman!" Clack!! Never. -

Haha! That reminds me of one scene in "Analyse This", when de Niro keeps talking, while the psychiatrist behind him leaves the room, only to come back in a bit later, still chewing. Sneaks back in, sits down quietly, and when de Niro finally says "What do you say to that?", Billy Crystal wipes off some bredcrumbs from his mouth and says "Well, we will look at that next time, okay? Your time for today is over." -

Well, I didn't want to insult the French - but what the heck; they have their cuisine, great wines and kissing - they can't get EVERYthing right! This was funny; I clicked on "Reply", but you text didn't appear. Cause you were just changing "Gehtzumbier" into "Gehtzumbräu", I suppose. Well "Zumbier" is indeed a German family name, although I doubt is has it's roots in "Bier" - not sure about Zumbräu. (For our English pilots: Otto Gehtzumbier would be a bit like Tom Gotobeer) -

I think your list is right, Pawgy - and I dare to promise you: when you are into an immersive WW1 air combat sim, you will not regret a single penny. Welcome to the mud! -

Well, you will have to wear these civil clothes here; cause we will have to drive through the German held area of Flanders. Here is a map. Our goal is Chimay, where Trappist monks are brewing a very special stuff. I give you my word as an officer and gentleman, that I will bring you back to your lines, and that I will defend you with my own life against any possible German attempts to arrest you or do you any harm. Shall we dare it? http://en.wikipedia..../Chimay_Brewery -
110th Birthday of the last Doughboy

The last German veteran from the Great War was Franz Künstler. He fought in Italy with 1. Reitendes Artillerieregiment (1. Artillery Regiment on horseback?) in the k.&k. army. After the 2. World War, Künstler lived next to Castle Haltenbergstetten, where he worked as a museum guide. He had lived alone, and without anyhelp. Künstler died in May 2008 in Niederstetten, Baden-Württemberg) at the age of 107, after an accident. http://www.welt.de/vermischtes/article2039233/Letzter_deutscher_Veteran_des_Ersten_Weltkriegs_tot.html -

Lou, that declaration was a bit long - we all know meanwhile how you are, Sir (and we'll have to live with it! Mmuahahahahahaaa!!!!) Oh, and as for the drinking: you beat me by 20 years then exactly - I have stopped on my birthday 2004. My reason was: if I really like something a lot, I have the tendency to spend too much time with it. With OFF, I have found something MUCH healthier. But people keep saying: when you drank beer, you were much more fun to be with. (Funny - the same people told me then: don't drink too much. And I only wanted to be even funnier) Elephant, I don't mind a virtual drink, Sir - cheers! -
Lou, maybe I used the wrong term, or the wrong kind of joke, about the "dressing down" thing. I just tried to write a post with the touch of a conversation between a rookie pilot and a veteran. You have written a very polite statement, and I have never seen you do anything offensive or rude. So, it was probably my mistake - sorry for that. And please get out of that dugout again. Sir? Same for you, elephant - I'm sure you didn't want to harm anyone. Lou, maybe it's not our day for answering the post, Sir - perhaps we should take the Model T and drive to town for a decent glass of beer (if they have that in France)?

Can't you drive down the slope less vertical - diagonal so to say? Or maybe you got into a mine field? -
Well, since Capt. Louvert has already given you a dressing down, I can only ditto that, Oberleutnant Jurgens. We all know, that they are two different sims, and that "the other sim" also has some advantages. I am absolutely certain, that the devs are fully aware of all that. And if you had seen their commitment during the last years, you would know, that they don't need really to get motivated. I have never seen people more motivated to get things right. You know - every rookie tries to impress the CO and the crew with some stunning loopings and rolls over the field. And every rookie get's a dressing down after that. The crew are veterans - they won't be overly impressed. If you want to impress them, do the right things in combat, keep your nerves together, come back alive and without loosing comrades behind. Master the often sordid reality. OFF provides us with just that - a very good realism; totally immersive. And honestly (and this is not meant to be bashing the "other sim"): the landscape does not look better than in OFF IMHO. And the aircraft - well, they appear more shiny and like "sharpened" in a photo program. But this "eyecandy" is wearing off on me quickly. I really believe, that the "OFF look" is somehow special - it does not sting in the eye with crystal-clear sharpness, and through this understatement has the effect, that the whole "world" of landdscape and aircraft together appears more real to me - because I can fill the missing sharpness with my own imagination. That was and still is, what always makes certain games or sims so special for us - room/space for imagination.

"Lone Wolf" mission - thought they didn't exist anymore
Olham replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Regular breakfast will be served from 5:30 h to 6:30 h, then we would walk over to the kites and mechanics to see, if everything is fine and the craft ready to fly. Morning briefing is between 7 h and 7:30 h; after that, the pilots who go up get ready with their crates. Lunchtime is between 12:00 - 13:00 h usually; that can be different for flights still in the air; they can eat their lunch later. The dinner is our "biggest meal" in the evening; usually at 18:00 h. This can vary though, depending on how many of the boys are still up in the air. (A "WW1 librarian" like you may have read about the real times for meals in the RFC? Was I close?) -

If you're looking for real trouble, you mean. Naw - I'm not a masochist. -
(Baldric-type of voice): "Well, Sir, moi Trackir ain't not a Choineese one; although yer never know nowadays, where the electric stuff comes from, do yer? But it definitely has no "philosphy" built in; or at least oi haven't found it yet - not sure?! But then there is so much you can set up in the setup menue, that oi may just not have found the "philosophy" yet? Purhaps the reason, why oi always get shot down, before oi can read the passage in the booklet?"

Always a pleasure to see happy people here, TaillyHo!

Another artillery spotting N-NE of Arras - and the Rolands again! But I got one! (Well, to be honest - I think someone else had already given him some good punches). Sgt. Adolphus' craft was badly smoking - he just made it behind the lines and put it down on a meadow. -

In the morning, we have baked beans, eggs, fried sausage, toast, and marmalade (English breakfast); sometimes even Stilton or Cheddar cheese; in the lunch breaks we have Ploughman's Lunch, and you would get decent meals for dinner like Shepperd's Pie or English roast; in the and after dinner we have good English lager or bitter, good French wines; whisky or brandy, and yes - a clean, warm bed! What do you say?! - Sign here...
