So true, Carrick - except for "game" - it is not a game..
-
Yep, that was tough in those days. But they solved that problem quite efficiently and right in time for the Battle of Britain.

Good one, Widowmaker! Not that it could stop us though - home defense pilots with lunch packs in their crates - I just imagine how he spills hot tea from his thermosflask, when the Zeppelin breaks through the clouds. Mmuahahahahahahaaaaa!!!!!!

All New P3 Medals While We're Waiting For P4
Olham replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Lou, I have tried to "build" me an own EK1, but however much I distort the BMP, it still looks wrong in the Log. I have distorted it vertical, so it looks very narrow and compressed in width, but in the log, it still looks too wide. I give it up for today. Edit: beautiful work you've made there! -
My girl friend doesn't understand at all, why I play any wargames. But hey - the world may be a bit more peaceful, when women usually are NOT into wars. More boring perhaps - but more peaceful!

Honest? 8.609 posts??? Man - I wonder if I'll be given a price, when I reach 10.000 ? A Teddybear flying a little model aircraft? Something like that? http://www.videolife.tk/video/w1dtQnlFPgk/Conrad-voller-Ideen.html

So you found it now? I still wonder, why you don't use the ingame map for guiding you. Pop it up every now and then, and correct your course?

Von Baur's tip is quickest. One could also try and change the colours for "Friends", "Enemies", "Bogies" and "Goal" to full transparency. The best solution is to fly with TAC off, and use the ingame map for checking the direction; or the "top shot way" - fly after a real paper map. (Really possible to follow roads or rivers).

How come not a lot of modding?
Olham replied to DukeIronHand's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
von Baur: ...all the different flight and damage models. It wasn't so much the fm/dms themselves as the bickering over which one was 'better' or 'more realistic'. And each one of them claimed to be historically accurate based on research and contemporary accounts. It got tiring, for me, just to read it on Wings of Honor and then Wings of Valor. Personally I prefer everyone being on the same page. That is a good point, von Baur, and I do much feel the same about it all. DukeIronHand: These things happen when you have a large enough fanbase. That is all I am saying. Don't burn me as a heretic! Nobody will get burned here for speaking his mind, Duke - we prefer to force them to land on our own airfields here. I think, the OFF community is settled mostly beyond an age of 40. Most of us have families to care for and fulltime jobs to do. From the remaining time, we want to visit the forum as much as possible - and after all, we want to fly OFF. And a personal feeling I may be alone with (I'm pretty conservative in many ways, you know?): A little bit of fan modding here and there may be a teaser to keep the devs on their toes. But if the users begin to mod and change everything - where is the fun for the developers? They won't make the big money with it, like the big companies with big money behind them - these devs started all this work driven by their enthusiastic desire to created the "real thing" - as they feel and researched it should be. They are still on their way - they never said: Now it's perfect; we have it finished. I don't want to take too much of that "creating joy" away from them - it would feel for me, as if the fans were taking the sim out of their hands. I can see the "danger", that fans begin to change wide areas, only because they would like to be part of the OFF creation. Which is a very understandable thought and wish to me; but in my opinion, the best and only way to achieve that would be, to ask the devs and say: "Here I am; I can build this or that - would you have me in the team?" That was just my very personal view and feeling. If you want to make any contribution, everything is pretty much open for you to offer it. And "no": not necessary to get an OFF tattoo. (But if you should get one, we want to see pictures!) -
Simpler solution - place the reading chair + reading light elsewhere. And tell your wife, strong light disturbs air traffic to an untolerable extent. If she opposes, ask her if she still loves you. (Women play that trick all the time, when they want something).

Hahaha! Sometimes the customers are overshooting the devs of a product. Your quick reaction is what I call being in touch with your customers, NaturalPoint_Vince!
-
Duke, to save you time and effort, you could decide on three or four pilots you want to create and fly. According to their nationality, plane types and squadrons, you could now download only those skins?

How come not a lot of modding?
Olham replied to DukeIronHand's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
DukeIronHand: Is everyone satisfied with OFF as is? A rethorical question, as we all know, that after BHaH and the HitR addon, the guys started working on OFF P4. I was very pleased with P3 in relation to P2, but after some time you do find bits and parts, which you would like to be different. First of all the devels themselves. And since I know I can rely on that, I feel no need to worry. There are many people here doing fine contributions. Herr Prop-Wasche made a different DM and FM; Creaghorn made sound and tracer files; several people make skins; Bletchley and British_eh started the "Survival in the Air" series. Maybe we don't see any fruitfull attempts with modeling yet - it must be the hardest part of all. Perhaps you want to start that? -
Sorry, Wodin, I didn't mean to call anyone a cheater, who uses some of the aids - in fact I have recently even encouraged newbies or people with less good eyesight. I used the wrong word. Everything anyone wants to switch on or off, is okay. The longer I am with OFF now, the more I regard it as the big challenge, to fly with no aids, and even following a real paper map. But everyone should only do it, when he or she feels like doing so. Wodin, if you like flying sims, and you know you will like it for a very long time, you should try to get TrackIR. It's incredible - it really gets you into the cockpit. I would sell my grandma for TrackIR. Perhaps you can sell old stuff on Ebay, or eat no Pizza or Fast Food for some weeks, anything. Elephant, you are right, I noticed that some members of my flights were reported wounded or missing, although nothing had happened. I hope you devs can find a better, more realistic solution for this?

OT: Ubisoft creating a brand new IL-2 Sturmovik game
Olham replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yeah, sometimes it seems like a furball here - everybody has someone in his gunsights, and nobody has the overview. Apart from that, I often noticed, that others people's post must have crossed with mine, but I only saw them later. Can get quite confusing then. -
Yep, Creaghorn is right - they cannot "see" you through clouds. I have often evaded larger enemy flights by running into the clouds. They always lost me. It may be, that there is a "critical distance" for AI to recognise you even in clouds, which appears to look different for you - i. e. when you get very close, he will fire towards your direction, cause he knows you're there somewhere, or because he can "hear" you, although you still cannot see him. But if you keep a distance of about 100 feet, he won't where you are.

If you get a "fish-eye" view, you may choose lower numbers/less degrees.

Don't hide your light under a bushel, Hasse Wind. Didn't mean 12 kills was little - it's just less than the reckless aces made. But most of the reckless aces died before the end of the war.
-
Even the blue advisor's line, which tells you that you hit, is a cheat, cause it is like "double" tracer effect. It is not so difficult to pile a huge number of kills in a short time, when you fly with any aids on, and when you fly reckless for your own and your wingmen's life. What is really difficult, is to keep your wingmen alive AND live at least 1 year. (Then you'd still be dead before the end of the war). Hardly anyone here made that, myself included. I found it very touching to read the interview with Major Gwilym Lewis, who had been a friend of Mannock. He concentrated his whole care on protecting the rookies. He had a great understanding of how little they see, who inhibited they felt in their craft in fights, and how all this new stuff over-occupied them. When his newbies got in trouble, Lewis would dive in and help them out. Gwilym Lewis only scored 12 confirmed victories. But he never lost any of his newbies. A very great achievement.

OT: Ubisoft creating a brand new IL-2 Sturmovik game
Olham replied to Hellshade's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
You might be surprised here, Parky, but as Widowmaker also likes to fly the German "Yellow noses", I really love to fly Hurricanes against bombers (Hurries were the toughest!), or Spits against Messerschmidts (the Spits were the most beautiful kites!) - and it is ALWAYS sheer fun to hunt down Stukas, when they are about to bomb the radar towers! -
Thanks for the info, Wodin - I will try "Buffers on" myself to see if it will make a difference for me too. Too make sure: did you tick or untick the boxes in front of "Buffers"?
