  1. These Guys are crazy! Jasta 11 Aerobatics confuse Enemy! What I saw today was absolutely stunning and new to me! I had a patrol with Jasta 11, and after the 3. waypoint, we got under attack from several Nieuport 24 out of the sun. Well, they sure regreted that very quickly - we literally wiped them out! And, as if that wasn't good enough, my comrades performed aerobatics I have never seen before. Leutnant Stapenhorst chased a "stinking" Nupe. As he was too fast for the damaged kite, he simply performed barrel rolls constantly, to bleed off some speed! Another guy, who was chasing the same plane as me, suddenly was close to my left - and headover! They surely confused the enemy with all this - and they confused me. This is a Flying Circus!!! PS: the Albatros in the last picture is that of Leutnant Hertel, who had to put down his damaged kite behind enemy lines.

    Wow! We've got new screenshots, boys! Where do I start? - the landscape looks so much more realistic without loosing that wonderful colour touch, that not many games ever got together. Lovely! - the closer look on the airfield shows: it is not too weak, as I first thought; all the traces of the many starts and landings - it looks truely realistic! - the new trenches are much more detailed! Good job done! - Arto and Pol, your new D.Va is superb - look at the lady's hot curves! - ...and you have made her a real D.Va now - cockpit and hood are changed! There is "my" radiator handle; and the textures look much finer! - the frosty winterland really makes you shudder - boy, it looks good! - those field gun trucks: I want to make them kaputt, please! (Sorry, but it's my duty...) - the Lozenge was already very good, but now you seem to see the fabric even closer - the damaged trucks and the whole view over the road and terrain - when can I have it? - the clouds are as soft now as clouds could be - the new S.E.5a cockpit will lure me to fly the Crumpets side! (Although - you did the Albatros cockpit improvements so well; I'll mostly stick with "my" lady!) - and the Gothas are flying over England? Holy Moly - will I have to escort them there? That would be great! But why read my gleeful stuttering - have a look yourself!
  5. Now, if we ever find ourselves in the cockpits of some real Albs we'll know just how to fly them. Not so sure there, Lou - could I please fly behind you then? I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to fly the bird, to check the map, and to scan the environement for enemy craft. But what I read here recently in a British pilot's test report after flying the Albatros, he found it easy and gentle to fly. So I think we would learn it.

    A very good point of RAF_Louvert here, Stratos. You may still need to learn the flying and handling of your kite right now, but even then it is better to fly in real time for that purpose. Or do you come from the jet fighters, who are used to shorter mission times? I am flying after a paper map recently (with occasional glances on the inflight map), and it is very rewarding. Actually, you wouldn't want to miss any part through warping - it would feel like watching a DVD, and suddenly running through the fast forward mode, to save time.

    A poll might be difficult to do? You'd need to think of the right questions. Recently, I am flying the Albatros D.V mostly. That craft has a max. service ceiling of 6500m = 21.325 feet. But already at 14.000 feet, it behaves as if it was flying in thin air - it can hardly perform it's turns well; it stalls far too easily and "smears off", until I can catch it up again. That is a point I would be most glad about being changed.

    You can even warp in enemy terrain. Warp only stops, when there are enemy aircraft within your range. Ground troops don't stop warping.

    A great journey that would be, Rickitycrate! And that postcard is funny. I think, considering the military strength of Germany in those days, it should rather be showing a "Schäferhund" (German shepperd dog; Alsatian). But then France and Britain would also complain. A cute painting.

    The OMAKA AIRSHOW is probably the greatest WW1 aircraft show. Omaka is in New Zealand, the land of Wing Nuts and the "Vintage Aviator".

  12. A hot morning in Coolkerke (Or: Don't test-fly your new skin in a scramble!) According to the Albatros skin of Vizefeldwebel Reimann from Jasta 78b, I have made another Albatros skin with a Lozenge pattern painted onto the fuselage. This time I first made a 4-colour upper and lower Lozenge for the wings, following Dan-San's accurate shemes. Then I put that pattern on the fuselage also. Here are pics of the first flight: a scramble! The columns of smoke show, how hard the battle was.

    Not me, Carrick. On Entente side, I consider it as being pretty much impossible. Even RAF_Louvert, who I'm sure would fly most carefully and well planned, without blood-craving outburst - in a word: like a real pilot - did not make it through the "Krauts vs Crumpets" campaign. Your chance should be much better on German fighter side, cause they should not cross the lines very often. But even there, you would have to fly most defensive. Creaghorn may be still alive in the "K vs C" Campaign (not sure); he should have the best ways to survive it. If even he should fail, it must be impossible for us mere mortals.

    Click on "Workshop" in the low right corner; then almost in the center, you find "Mission frequency". Set that on "Light" and see what you get (I never tried it). Also, you can set "Mission advance" on "Manual" and click on "Advance time" in the mission briefing window, until you get to the desired date. A third and easy way would be to change the date in the pilot dossier file. They are here: (your game folder) > campaigns > CampaignData > pilots Choose one number higher than your ingame pilot nr. - Pilot 7 would be file Pilot8. Open his PilotDossier. Before you change anything, you should make a back up copy of the file. Then open it with Editor - you see text like this one of my pilot: 91 Germany Jasta 6 Leutnant Wolfram Olhoff 5 11 1917 The seventh and eighth lines show the current date (here. November 5th); the nineth is the year. Change to the date you want and save the file. Next time you enter the sim, you will have that date.
  15. I always smile about the "Spartan" interiour of the Albatros, compared to the "millionaire's Italian racing boat" design of the Spad cockpit (yeah, the French know how to live well!). Thanks for explaining, Lou - I was never sure which pump was for the fuel pressure, and what the other was for then? (Could that be the reason, why I demolish so many Mercedes engines? Mmuahahahaaa!!) I like your deep interest in all these things - you have at least one person "east over the pond" with a kinship there: me. And I think, Creaghorn is another. I'm just having a mug of coffee, accompanied by "Stollen-Konfekt"*, and love to go through your stuff. * (they are getting into Christmas spirit earlier every year - soon it will start right after Easter. But "Weihnachts-Stollen" and "Stollen-Konfekt" can be quite delicious, if they used enough good butter and almonds!)

  19. This website has wonderful pictures of MFJ aircraft. The one showing MFJ-1 Albatros at takeoff from Aertrycke is a great shot! http://kaiserlichesm...lingenFotos.htm There are also submarines; and photos of soldiers and buildings. There are map excerpts showing trenches; and interesting documents.
  20. Don, the Sopwith products break very easily. Do as Hasse Wind says. You fly under the D.F.W., and pull your kite up from there, firing into the belly. Drop your nose, before you get so high, that you come into the range of the gunner; and repeat the attack, until she goes down. attack the lowest and most rearwards flying craft - don't attack, when other DFW fly much lower near it - their gunners would open fire on you.

    Thanks, DonL. I asked if you fly OFF, cause then I will add you to our OFF Forum Pilots maps. I see, your town and country is already under your name. No, didn't check the birdcage. Will do now. Edit/PS: yes, indeed - they are still in the ground there, it says. If you click my link in the first post, you see a map showing the craters of such mines directly on the German line near Wytschaete, which was drawn back two days later after that attack. Those mines must have blown huge craters, and probably burried hundreds of men alive.
  23. Mikael Carlson's Dreidecker takeoff and landing: ...and air to air. This second video shows a good close-on view at the pilot over his guns; and some rapid low flying.
  24. This looks like a kid or a woman in the cockpit - or the pilot has turned his head to the right, which makes it look smaller. The officer standing on the other side of the craft looks larger - he gives you the right idea about the size.
  25. Yes, I knew that stuff. It is great, how many detail he knows about. Your painting looks much clearer now - and so detailed! If you can take the flashlight off the camera, you may try to point it to the ceiling of the room, or hold it sideways. Sometimes works, but depends of the gloss of the surface.
