It is alright, gaw - I have it the same way; and it works. Best is you only begin to wonder, when things don't work right - but they do, don't they?

Perhaps you "Wizards of OFF" could show a bit here and there during your progresses? Hint, hint?? Like those beautifully made wax Sushis in Japanese restaurants' windows. You know you can't eat them, but they fire up your appetite extremely well (Pavlov's dog). Well, now you may answer, that wasn't necessary in my case - which is right; it couldn't grow further. But to attract more newbies?

That how I started collecting information, Carrick. For Germans, Wikipedia is quite a good source. Strangely though, I didn't get an English version on this. Here is the main info I have for you: The main differences between the German built versions and the OeFAG (Österreichische Flugzeugfabrik AG - Austrian Aircraft Factory Corporation) Albatros D.III were stronger engines for the Austrians, and the lower wing issue, which the Austrians solved different and better, whilst the German factories kept building the one-spar wing. The lower smaller wing concept was copied from the successful early Nieuports, and the Germans copied the same weak spot with it: the single main spar, and the V-strut fixed to it. This led to a strong wing warping in steeper dives, cause the lower wing was only stabilised at the one point at the base end of that V-strut. There were accidents, where parts of the lower wing broke through this warping. The Austrians concepted their own lower wing with stabile two spars, which gave the wing the stability it needed. Also, the OeFFAG Albatros D.III was equipped with stronger engines, which made it an overall better fighter than the German version. (I wish I could have one!)

Many photos of Carl Holler at Jasta 6
Olham replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Well, I found the site where I had read about him - it was the "Flieger-Album", a great website you can stroll around in for hours; there is even Holler's flying license to be seen: http://www.flieger-album.de/geschichte/portraits/carlholler.php Here is the translated bit about the incident: In an aerial combat on 30 May 1917, Holler forced his opponent, Lieutenant Kantel from the French (?) 54 Squadron/RFC , to land. Holler treated Kantel hospitably; which was not appreciated at Jasta 6. Due to the heavy tension following after this, Holler asked for his transfer back to Germany. Does anyone know, why it says: French 54 Squadron RFC? -
Semi-OT...Guess What I'll Be Doing
Olham replied to von Baur's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Sometimes, all the good things come together to make a man happy! Congratulations, von Baur! We expect screenshots! (Please convert to a size we all can enjoy- ) -
Sounds like you need to buy it again - but it isn't expensive. And then, this time you better make yourself 2 copies, for such emergencies. I speak from own bad experiences - now I have bought "Hat in the Ring" incl. that insurance (still have ca. 1 year); plus making a copy on my external drive. Sorry for you, Matador.

Many photos of Carl Holler at Jasta 6
Olham replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
If I look at the other faces in some of the group photos, I think some humour did them good. What I thought about him was, that he doesn't look at all like I would imagine a fighter pilot to appear. I read somewhere, that he was kicked out of Jasta 6 for fraternising? If I remember right, he drank wine with a French pilot they had shot down (perhaps he did?), and maybe they had a good talk and laughing. For others in the Staffel, that must have been unbearable. Does anyone know more detail about this? And what became of Carl Holler after this? -
Do you mean, you lost the downloaded files of "Hat in the Ring"? In that case, go to check out, how many download attempts you had, and for how long. If you had bought it incl. insurance, you can download it again definitely. http://www.overflandersfields.com/Downloads**tR.htm

uncleal: Double-check if WIND is selected or not in Workshop. As it's presence can make landing . . exciting "Tch!!! Butterflies!!!! Try der Albatros - ze wind vill not ssrow zatt arround! Crumpetz!"

I am only yet learning about this all, so I don't know what NB stands for? I have reset everything to default values, but haven't seen the timing yet - were do I check those? I know that such numbers are printed on the labels of my memory, so I can check how they should be. But were do I find them in BIOS?

Can you recommend two or three PSUs you know for good, von Paulus? Cause as you said before - I still could bring it back. almccoynjr, I know it can be several things - one friend even said, he had such problems amd searched his a*s off, until he found, it was the on/off button of his rig. What does plug_nickel (AI) mean??? This is now the second day with no crash so far. As soon as I have the next crash, I will try running it with only two, like Parky had suggested, and when it crashes again, I'll take the other - just to sort out, if it is the memory.

Didn't know this at all! As an Albatros man, I thought that everybody was faster than me anyway? No, seriously now - it annoyed me to see, that a Nieuport 11 seems to catch up on my Albatros D.II, when I'm out of ammo and run. That's why I prefer to shoot everybody down - which isn't realistic, is it? If you'd fly German side, I would say, reduce your petrol / weight - if I have a path of 40 miles to fly over German terrain, I fill in petrol for 60 miles; if it goes over enemy terrain, I fill in for the double distance. But I think, you Entente pilots can't do that? Not sure. I never reduce ammo - it is a wonderful feeling, when you still have the chance to defend yourself even on your way back to base. One never knows!

Thank you for your detailed answer, von Paulus. I have meanwhile checked the updates again, and as you say - they wouldn't improve anything to solve my problem. As I have several jobs now, which will earn some money, I think I will upgrade my rig to a new mobo with DDR3 and the ability to run Windows7 64bit. Not sure if OFF or my graphic card (ATI HD4870) would benefit from that, but I would be in the "next generation" for further upgrades with this, I think. A first step is already done - I have bought a new power supply (Cooler Master 600W).

Well, I hope you will find a really good one. If not, I could offer my French knowledge. All you need to find out was, wether Bullard flew in the 1° or the 2° group. -
Isn't CSC the best of all chaotic situations - the Creative Survival Chaos of a family?

I have made an appointment with "my computer ace" and friend, to bring the whole rig to his place and check it out on weekend or early next week. Before I have the time for that, I will follow Parky's advice with changing the memory sticks. My friend, by the way, seemed not very keen on updating the BIOS; he said you can easily mess the whole board up completely. But if there should be an easy method, 77Scout, maybe we take it in account. Thank you all for your help!

Parky, you missed this bit perhaps: Have to say though...The delicious Indian Take away and the Bottle of Merlot have helped 'ease the pain' somewhat Two days! Tch!! One needs to tune in to being alone, and Merlot may be one way - I personally prefer "Over Flanders Fields".
-
Well, I have read some Forum posts about that; then I went to the GIGABYTE website, found the download section, searched for my Mobo (I have checked the Rev.-Nr., it is Rev. 2.1); and then I came to the result, that I need the update version F14 - whatever that means; I have downloaded it now, but won't do anything before I consulted my advisor/friend here in Berlin, and heard your oppinions to this. I read, that the BIOS update may improve the memory management for 1066 sticks. I still think, that one stick may be faulty, but if a BIOS update doesn't hurt, why not do it?

Do I search the web and download such a BIOS update like any other, and install it then?

Paul Blum's Story: A BHaH Pilot's Saga
Olham replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
No shame, Slart - the man must have been VERY good at that. -
Okay, thank you, Parky, will do. Perhaps we should later still come back to a BIOS update - if it can only improve things. But for now, I will just begin like you said. Edit/PS: the system did so far not crash today, although it was running the whole day, and I did some intensive Photoshop work (needs a lot of memory usually).

For your own private use, you may take a picture of an air combat painting and make it into a desktop background. That is a private use only, and shouldn't conflict with copyrights. I just found one of those paintings in the Gallery over at "The Aerodrome" website. It is the great painting " Twilight of the Jagdfliegers" by Steve Anderson. I have a desktop of 1680 x 1050 Pixels resolution, so I brought it to the right width first. The missing space I filled with bars of a deep blue, which I gathered from the darkest parts of the sky. Also the writing is of a colour I took from the clouds. I took the freedom to correct the title to: "Twilight of the Jagdflieger" - the plural of Jagdflieger would still be Jagdflieger. Now I added two lines of the same colour, and moved the whole picture up enough, to gain the space for the desktop icons below. Here is the result: Try it yourself - it is very rewarding to have your own WW1 air combat desktop.

Yeah, Mark Miller has some very realistic looking aircraft and air combat works there over at "The Aerodrome", an encounter of Loerzer's Jasta 26 and a flight of Camels for example. He seems to work with rendered models see more here: http://mwmiller.theaerodrome.com/

Ras, you seem to be counting the days 'till you get the new rig? You are a flyer, for whom I really wish, that it will all work out best, and you can soon enjoy "our OFF" again.
