  1. There are lots of new photos in the historical collection at WingnutWings - thanks, Greg vanWyngarden and all! http://www.wingnutwings.com/ww/022C9E94AE2FFC17A40713E838094B11
  2. WOFF: Screenshots and Videos

Nice to see some ground units eventually. The RFC in a hilly area - is that near Amiens, Adger?
  3. WOFF: Screenshots and Videos

Dave, check your PMs - message sent.
  4. OFF Forum Pilots Maps

Pat_Pattle, England added longshot, Netherlands added SteveW, New Mexico added The maps are in post 1 of this thread
  5. WOFF: Screenshots and Videos

That's another lovely shot of the little Pup with the sun sheen on it's surfaces.
  6. WOFF: Screenshots and Videos

Check the forum section about skinning, if you're not sure - it is quite easy to do for WOFF! PS: I can make one of these with your emblem on, Dave - what do you like?
  7. WOFF: Screenshots and Videos

Yep, that is my MFJ I pilot Juergen Harms' paintjob - and he is quite proud of it! WHEN THE HOUNDS OF WAR FIND YOUR SPOOR...
  8. Ordering WOFF soon

MudWasp, with your overclocked CPU you should be fine at 4.6 GHz - I fly the sim with only 3.3 GHz. Can't see your graphic card in your list - but I guess it will do.

Look at those clouds - that's real art work. No need for SweetFX or any enhancers for me. That was a busy patrol with MFJ I - first one of our newbies got attacked by two of the new Scout Experimental 5, which are damn fast. But the Englishman was too target-fixated - I got behind him and shot him down. He tried a landing in no-man's land, but he got caught up in the wires and went headover. Then it was my turn to be the hunted - three Sopwith Triplane appeared and had their fun with chasing me around, until the fierce Flak from Rumbeke made them turn away from me. I had received a hit, and my radiator lost water, which spilled out and was quite hot, when it hit me. The engine conked out and I had to put the craft down in an open field, not far from Rumbeke airfield. Help arrived very quickly.
  10. Always touching to read such reports about discovered wreckage. Thank you for sharing, Shiloh!

Maybe Odell was good at attracting enemy scouts and luring them into traps? Good Odell - if you haven't read "No Parachute!" by Arthur Gould Lee yet, you should get yourself a copy quickly and read it. You will enjoy your campaign with No. 46 Sqdn RFC ten times better! While I read it, I felt like I was really there at La Gorgue with the boys...
  12. WOFF: Screenshots and Videos

Looked it up (oh, the world-wide web!) and found what it means: "A will-o'-the-wisp are atmospheric ghost lights seen by travellers at night, especially over bogs, swamps or marshes. It resembles a flickering lamp and is said to recede if approached, drawing travellers from the safe paths." The German word would be "Irrlicht".

Ah, the Sopwith Pup! I like the Pup! What does the writing mean?
  14. WOFF: Screenshots and Videos

Wow, great nice pic of the Biff, Widowmaker! I guess you could even enjoy finer wires, when you don't use the sim's Anti-Aliasing, but the graphic card's. Anti-Aliasing: 8, and Anisotropic Filtering: 4 should work fine, i guess. Not the graphics are so demanding in WOFF, but all the CPU must do (with a single core).
  15. Hey, hey - I was just busy... Happy Easter for you too, Andy!
  16. Damn - yes, sure I meant OFF - corrected that; thanks Pol!
  17. Gee! As slowly as I read, I wouldn't manage to read all these books in my lifetime! Let me recommend to you one book, which I'm about to finish reading, and which is possibly the best I have read from a German aviator: Otto Fuchs (translated by Adam Wait): "Flying Fox" http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0764342525/ref=s9_simh_gw_p14_d4_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0PYRTMWHG5V59AAKT1MF&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200382&pf_rd_i=507846 The English, modern version even has an advantage over the original. Fuchs had "disguised" all personal names as well as squadons in the German book - Adam Wait has carefully researched, which real pilots were behind these aliases. Heartly recommended - you won't regret it, Lou.
  18. Dicta Boelcke for WOFF

Good points, Lou! I'd like to add, that I made the observation, that the AI pilots, when they have the advantage and they are chasing me all the way down to the deck, are not too often as target-fixated and eager as some of us may often be - they let me run away several times, instead of giving up all their altitude.
  19. Yes, so true, Lou! There are moments, when I'm not in a furball, but fly over the great landscapes of the Picardie, the Marne region, Verdun sector or Alsace-Lorraine - moments when my heart brims over from that kind of joy that can bring tears to the eyes. Winder's wonderful WOFF-landscape-works (I love alliterations!) are getting perfectly complete with AnKor's shader mod. So, if everyone who enjoys it only half as much as I do, would donate him ten or more dollars, Euro or whatever, he would get at least something back in return. The "Donate" button is at the bottom of his post #1 here: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3881675/DirectX_8_to_9_converter_March#Post3881675
  20. Well, the scenery in OFF sure DID look good. But then it was also a bit like a phantasy landscape; a kind of 'Shire'. I loved it too, but the new landscape is much more northern France - and still wonderfully special.
  21. Jasta 17 had to transfer westwards, from Metz-Frescaty in the Verdun sector to St.Quentin-le-Petit in the Marne region. A flight of 160 kilometers, which could be done in 1 hour. I took off last, but managed to catch up with other fliers on the way. My Albatros D.II was running so fine despite the bad weather, and I caught up with the group of Strasser, Buckler and Träger. But they all flew too high, through the grey clouds - I needed to see the ground and some landmarks. I was really happy, when I recognised Rethel north of the river Aisne - from here it was only a short way to our new field. The rain and snow drizzle had something good - enemy fighters would have hardly spotted our small transfer groups. So now I'm at the Aisne front - I wonder what the future will bring for us... I made this transfer flight in real time, and though there was no combat action at all, and although the weather was rather dreadful, I enjoyed finding my way. Thank you, Winder, for the wonderful landscapes! They even look great when the weather is bad!
  22. Transfer Flight

Yeah, that was end of February, I think. Meanwhile I'm in April (after a hospital break of two weeks) - and it's still often bad. Hoping for real spring!
  23. Thank you, guys. Yeah, I know I had quite a long run, and RAF_Louvert, Dej and Bullethead too. (Bullethead, come back, man - I know I stepped on your toes, but 'm sure you can take that!) There were many others, who made at least very good occasional contributions, like Womenfly2, JFM or Widowmaker - many more actually. Flyby, don't get bitter; carry on as good as you can. The crunch wasn't your fault, and it had to happen sooner or later. It isn't even over yet. And the bankers speculate on and on - no brakes installed...
