  1. ID this Wappen

Here is Wikipedia about the von Hunolsteins. Their Wappen was indeed red and gold (yellow). Will search on for more recent members. Note: they are written "von Hunolstein" - not von Hunoltstein. http://de.wikipedia....lsgeschlecht%29
  2. Well, still some time until then - I joined them in late August 1917 with my D V. Not sure If I can survive until the D VII (but she's not my crate really - too ugly).
  3. Oh, that's wonderful, Wels! Now the English speaking can share the story; thank you!
  4. Two short videos

I like the second one, Jammer, which is like a trailer to the sim. It brings out again the great quality of Matt Milne's score - it fits so perfectly well, that after hearing it again and again over one year now, I have yet never got tired of it.
  5. Squad mates

Well, that wasn't so much a rant but rather a request for improvement, I'd say, and I agree. But I had thought, that their kills get also listed? Must check next sortie!
  6. What you always wanted to know in the "other side's" language. Please type in above: Jasta [Jagdstaffel] [Luftwaffe] Enjoy! http://www.dict.cc/?s=Jasta+[Jagdstaffel]+[Luftwaffe]&pagenum=1
  7. Good idea, Lou (Creaghorn will LOVE it!), I'll see, if I can find similar details about German pilots. Thanks for sharing!
  8. Racing trains?! Some milimeters lower, and you could have beheaded moles with the prop! I wonder what your CO would say, if could see these screenshots (which he can't, because he must be dead since so many years)??
  9. Akmatov and all - the deletion of pilot can lead to CFS3 problems, I assume, when you don't do it like this: You go to a dead pilot and click on "retire". Then, right after that, you go to "enlist a new pilot", and create one. Do that with all you want to delete. Because: Every pilot has a number. When he is shown in your log as Pilot No.3, he is actually pilot4 in the pilot files. Now, when you delete one without creating a new one, the whole order of numbers can get mixed up for CFS3 files. I am not sure, that this is a fact, but I used to have trouble sometimes, when only a "CFS3 reset" would help (which means the loss of all pilots!). Since I do it in the above way, I didn't have such problems anymore.
  10. Conrad, don't worry. Deutsch is one of the last languages I would recommend to learn. The grammatics are far too complicated, and then three genders "der, die, das" to make it more complex. Why it should be "der Mond", "die Sonne", but "das Pferd" - I could never explain that. You are much easier with "the moon, the sun, the horse".
  11. Maybe, I posted this before, but it's worth to check with time and patience. Most "Flieger & Luftschiffer" have contributed pictures, and there are more under "Photos & Postkarten". First pic is Jasta 4, April 1917; second shows FA(A) 234 in Lanchy, March 27th, 1918. Enjoy! http://www.buddecke.de/index1.htm
  12. Yes, Morris, absolutely ditto. That must be like paradise, when they even get paid for that. Akmatov - when you win, will you travel there, or buy one? Cause, if you travel there, and the winning is big enough: could you take me with you?
  13. The X was the Y of its day...

Yep, the Albatros would compare to the Bf 109, which was also a great craft at the beginning, but in the late G-series, it was outdated, like the Albatros D V and D Va. The Bf 109 G 6 was still a very good fighter, and both, the late Bf 109 and the Albatros D V were still very dangerous in the right hands, of course.
  14. Akmatov, the thing on the upper wing is the water fill-in for the radiator. In an Albatros fighter, you don't need a periscope - these craft give you the best allround view you could want. Try them. The exhaust tube is right above the left officer. The DFW is indeed a bit funny with the engine block in front of you (but keeps the nose warm in winter - Lol!) If you want to see the details of two great fighters, check the Albatros build pictures, and also the S.E.5a building (under: Projects) here at this wonderful website: http://thevintageavi...co.nz/node/3794
  15. Wie Schön!

    And a British beauty!
  16. Wie Schön!

Oh, wow! Wunderbar! That could make me think of digging out my tools for modelling again!
  17. Being an ignorant as for deeper knowledge about the Great War, even I had heard the name "Vimy Ridge", and I just googled for it. I can only assume, that it was one of those battle grounds, they have fought for in an even harder way than elsewhere; I assume it was essential for the Entente to hold it. Now, when I found this photograph, I understood a little of that even without deeper knowledge. The grounds around the memorial are still like ploughed by artillery, as you can see here.
  18. After setting up my new ATI Catalyst Control Center (new version is out for download now), I installed the also new version of FRAPS and thought I give it a try and make a video. Sorry for the jaggies - I still have to find out, why they happen. Enjoy anyway!
  19. Bandy, I never use them in Campaign. I switched them on for the video, because I know, what quality comes out in YouTube. This way, it could at least be seen by the blue lines, that I hit the guy. It was intended to demonstrate TrackIR to those, who don't use it yet; plus showing some deflection shooting. Especially for "Krauts vs Crumpets" Full Did Campaign, everything must be switched of. Red Dog, I'm absolutely not in the least mood for MP yet - I am very, very winter-tired and much prefer to fly my own little business, just when and how I feel like. It only makes sense, when I really want to do it. So please, be patient; I will contact you then, for the "fine-tuning".
  20. Great idea, will try something like that, Flyby!
  21. Spad

Don't they look exciting? And it flies like the one we have in OFF - a strong, fast plane, and not the tightest turner. Great to see one 'alive'. Thanks for sharing, Carrick.
  22. Yeah, thanks Flyby, will try a shorter one, more edited. Am only just beginning to learn to handle the stuff; and outside views are tricky to fly.
  23. Akmatov, the average life expectancy of a rea life WW1 pilot was 17 hours. Here in OFF we have the "Krauts vs Crumpets" Full DiD Campaign running. You can see here, how long everone survived so far: http://www.hetzer.talktalk.net/sitenavigation.html Click on all pictures.
  24. Amen to that, Hasse Wind. People who take the time to make a WW1 air combat sim, can't be really bad. Shred, I think Dutch meant one of the other sims - RoF or FE. He can't have meant OFF - were else is more of a campaign than here?
  25. Vimy Ridge Memorial

Thank you, gordohk. I always fail to imagine casualty numbers - how many people were injured or killed? That's why I made this graphic. It's rounded; I dropped about 4 dots, to get columns of hundred men each. The German casualties are 20.000 - the double amount of dots. I couldn't find any information on how many Germans were killed there.
