Albatros D V vs SPAD VII - Air combat video
Olham replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Thank you all! Bandy, I don't use the gunsights ever. I have developed a feeling for were the bullets will go. But apart from that, you're right; I also like to move in the cockpit. I lift my bum from the chair to look over the top wing; I lean out left and right; and in the Albatros D V, I have to bend over to look past the "hunchback" (headrest). I found, that the TrackIR 5 software gave me good opportunities for setting things up. I have far less failures now, were the picture is freezing. Oh, and yes: I check my six as often as that; I'm flying without TAC, and then it's a 'must'. Jammer, although it's sorry for you, but I'm (almost) glad you have jaggies too. I had begun to think, my system was already out of date again. In case you haven't known already: Morris' advice about the TrackIR setting was very helpful (thanks agin, Morris!); I have far less jaggies now. -
Whats your favorite refrigerated barley unit of choice within the mess?
Olham replied to appraiserfl's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hey, Rickity, you should make a deal with OBD and the breweries, and bring out those beers with those labels. The Simmers will buy them, and from the winnins, they build a super-engine! -
Albatros D V vs SPAD VII - Air combat video

Thank you, Morris - that would be phantastic; will try! -
Carrick, first you should define, what a "stable gun platform" means to you? Stability in flying, aiming, firing and hitting the target? (and not the overall flying and turning qualities?) If it is that, all German Albatros, and also the Pfalz are best. All Fokker, even the D VII, are already much more "nervous" on the stick; so it's harder to aim and hit. British craft would be the S.E.5 and the Bristol Fighter. French: both SPAD VII and XIII

Albatros D V vs SPAD VII - Air combat video
Olham replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
My craft was an Albatros D V (early version, with the hunchback head rest). The tune I did not name, as it always gets kicked out by the YouTube guys. It is "Strange Procession" from Michael Brook's album "Rockpaperscissors". -
Hihihi, you're right, Rickitycrate - my wisdom ends at the garden gate, I'm afraid. Or better: at the mess door!
-
Jammer, you are really a "video director", and cutter at the same time. I have missed you vids since some time - great you are back with a new one!
-
Hey, Morris - why should you?!?!? We live in times of world wide communication! There are airlines! I can buy a ticket! Winder - it will only take a coupla hours to get there!!! I am surely much more experienced than Morris!!!!! Morris may even be biased, cause he is South African, citizen of the same town, AND your neighbour!
-
Hah! Seems I'm showing a hint of subtle wisdom after all these years of growing up: I CAN wait; and I know it will pay the patience! And now I'm off to my waiting Albatros!...
-
Yer right there, mighty - when everyone would switch off any "crutches"/aids, like Labels, TAC, outside views etc., and not even used the "pause" button (my weak spot yet! Lol!), Then most people wouldn't survive more than 25 sorties, I'm pretty sure. My luckiest pilot in the "Krauts vs Crumpets" campaign survived 30 hours in 46 sorties. Being still too much of the hazardous type, he fell after 38 victories. He didn't even survive half a year. So you're right there, Creaghorn - the challenge are not masses of kills. The real challenge is here, to survive one year, two years - the whole war. I don't believe, anyone has made that yet.

There are RoF videos on YouTube, and I watched some. Their landscapes look pretty dead - only their water looks fine. But when you go low, OFF still gives you the feeling, you could see the single grass halm. Haven't seen any other sim, where that was done so brilliantly, in texture AND natural looking colours.
-
Not sure, which aces you mean, Creaghorn - these 6 among the top ten aces of WW1 survived the war: René Paul Fonck - 75 victories William "Billy" Avery Bishop - 72 victories Ernst Udet - 62 Raymond "Collie" Collishaw - 60 victories Andrew Beauchamp-Proctor - 54 Donald Roderick MacLaren - 46 victories

Siggi: I'm not sure what a solution to that might be...making the AI's DM incredibly robust... Carrick and Siggi, I assure you, the DM of enemy craft is robust enough. Yesterday I fired 500 rounds or even more into a SPAD VII from close range, until it finally collapsed. And today, I fired quite a lot into two Nupe 17, which are more fragile, but these two lasted pretty long.

To warp, I must always get far enough away from enemies, to allow warp. Are your wingmen still alive then? I never tried it your way, but will do now.

Von Paulus: I get angry and frustated; it's really hard to change prejudices. One of the major problems of mankind - prejudice. I do believe Winder, when he says, there is still enough for more in the CFS3 engine. But it would of course be much better for sales, if it could just get integrated in the OFF disc, and just be mentioned in the liner notes/credits somewhere. I'm afraid though, that MS would still charge too much money for their engine. Hasse Wind: I've solved this problem by concentrating more and more in flying bomber careers. I think, Creaghorn has found a way to fly his missions without so many kills. Perhaps you can give us some details, how you avoid so much fighting/kills, Creaghorn?
-
It does sure look good - but OFF landscape looks still a good deal better. The whole look is definitely a big, big plus in OFF, something I really feel fine with!
-
Siggi: I'm not sure what a solution to that might be...making the AI's DM incredibly robust (because I seriously doubt anymore can be got from CFS's AI flying ability) or making 90% of the player's rounds dud? Naw, that would all be only distorting the player's achievement. The only way is, to make the AI fight even more clever and tactically right. And to build in a re-assembling and withdrawal from the fight; to make it "natural".
-
PS: to be constructive here - what the German members of the "Krauts vs Crumpets" campaign agree on most to be changed, is the AI behaviour during fights. It would be great, if it engaged aggressively for 5 - 10 minutes, and then climb out and re-assemble (covering each other) to fly home. No massakres, that only end, when one flight is totally wiped out. That would give us much more realistic kill rates. An element, that also needs some skillful improvement, is the vertical fighting. I have to watch it again and again, that my wingmen get slaughtered by Nieuports, which I can kill quite well by using more vertical tactics.(Flying: Albatros - of course! Lol!)
-
Sounds promising enough for me. And I assure you all: I'm not sitting here twiddeling my thumbs in waiting for P4 - when my work is done, I jump into the cockpit and fly every cent and so much more out of P3. (And there are still crates I haven't even tried yet!)
-
Well, maybe the TIR5 hardware is different and better. But I can assure you all, that my TIR4Pro hardware, plus the TrackIR 5 software, gives me a great result. As long as I don't know the better one, it will be great as it is.

My english is not the yellow of the egg! Westerwavish für Anfänger
Olham replied to Gepard's topic in Deutsch
Have mercy, Morris - it's one of my "creations" (see: downloads > skins).
-
Cripes, Sieben - what happened? Did somebody step on your feet? Did I miss something?
-
Well, then hit "escape" in flight and go to "controlls" to find out, what gunsight is. I have changed most of my key commands.

Searching for material about my favourite fighter, I stumbled over this! Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zGEbVxr0mk
