  1. Flying for the other side.

OvS: "...it's something about their aviation technology... I simply love it. I love the look of the planes, the colors, the feel, the sounds... The Bordeauxred Baron: "Ziss iss a man off great taste, der OvS!" OvS: I've always felt the German planes in WWI and WWII were superior on all aspects. I don't know if that's true, but it's just the way I feel. Olham: Seems that's how the Germans felt, too. In our DiD Campaign, we are standing against so many squadrons - French, British and American - that I cannot believe anymore, that Germany ever had a REAL air superiority at any time, except for over their territory. But they fought like they BELIEVED they had - and so held the whole world at bay for more than three years. And of course, OvS: the COOLER fighters with the HOTTER paintings! The Bordeauxred Baron: "Mmuahahahahahahaaaaaa!!!!"
  2. Great shots, Morris! What are your settings for "terrain detail" and "scenery detail"?
  3. Flying for the other side.

By such devious means into our wonderful fighters? I don't know, Rabu - it is an intriguing idea surely, but I actually believe, the pilots here are too honorable men to do such an "amoral war crime". ...but what about this idea? Check out, if you had early family roots in Germany. Americans often have, but even the British (Lord Mountbatten would really be a von Battenberg, a German noble). If so, use that name. Or you could try to translate your family name into German (I would help here). It will definitely open your mind a bit for the "other side", when you find yourself in the same problems.
  4. User Skins / Sub Categories etc

Since the skins area was flooded by hundreds of half-baked skins by one bustling contributor, I lost interest, to be honest. It might be a good idea to make them also findable by the name of the member/creator, so the other people's skins would have a chance to be found at all? Or is this already possible - not sure? Apart from that, it would be good to make sections for the precise aircraft types, like: 1. Albatros D I + D II 2. Albatros D III early 3. Albatros D III 4. Albatros D V 5. Albatros D V uprated 6. Albatros D Va 7. Albatros D Va 200 and so on for the others.
  5. OT- flying 101

Anything to be different, eyh? Well, it's funny, but the surprise effect will wear off quick, and the green almost hurts.
  6. Where exactly and which time do you fly there, Carrick? Nice landscape! And yes, of course you are outclassed by my Albatros!
  7. Wondering

Carrick: Thanks Olham, you are a wealth of information. Naw, that's RAF_Louvert, who you mean - me know nothin'. But I got IrfanView, a free downloadable program to see through the skins with. (Thanks again for the tip, Sandbagger!)
  8. Found these paintings by Steve Anderson at the Aerodrome. Enjoy!
  9. Here are more from "The Aerodrome" - click on 'WW1 aviaton art': http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/ The profile of the Fokker F.1 is by James F. Miller - "our" JFM here on the Forum. Hope you don't mind me "borrowing" it from the Aerodrome, James?
  10. Wondering

I don't think, the Americans had own bomber groups, so you should join the British one. After 17 hours - or 5 confirmed kills - you can then transfer to Escadrille Lafayette.
  11. Flying for the other side.

    Good story, Flyby PC!
  12. Wondering

Oh, and the all red Albatros D III early was that of Godwin Brumowski, Jasta 24, I suppose. He was an Austrian pilot, who also flew for Jasta 24 in 1917.
  13. Wondering

Yep, check here, carrick: http://www.hetzer.talktalk.net/ Click on the roundel, then on the craft with the Indian head.
  14. Missing airbases?

Not so busy these days in Wilhelmshaven (right next east to Ostfriesland, my home); but they thought of building a big container ship harbour there - would bring jobs to a rather poor area. You as a naval war sim-man must of course know that harbour, Bullethead. (And I promise, I WILL try your naval sim one soon day!)
  15. Flying for the other side.

That reminds me to re-activate my French alter ego, Didier de St.Malo - a rather short French name, compared to the ingame French aces with names like "Jean Paul Erneste du Vin Rouge de la Grande Garage".
  16. Missing airbases?

Never worried about that, as I am fighting at the front line. The inflight map maybe from CFS3, which was a WW2 sim. Perhaps there haven't been airfields in Wilhemshaven, Koeln and Duesseldorf back in WW1 - but as I said: have to fight here in the Marne region now.
  17. Flying for the other side.

I understand that feeling much better than you may think, Flyby. And it's a feeling, an emotional thing - and so can hardly be channeled elsewhere. So don't worry - I also feel most content in my beloved Albatros. Think, that's okay.
  18. Again found at Rosebud's WW1 and early aviation website - a Caudron, heavily armed (an aircraft for your likes, UncleAl !). http://www.earlyaeroplanes.com/archive1.htm
  19. Recorded my patrol flight

Couldn't you place it again with music from the YouTube offer, hughesyman? I'd like to see it too...
  20. They are like very well roasted, delicious hot Bratwurst on a cold day- you know you can only handle one at a time, but it makes you want to say: I'll have three - with mustard!
  21. Flying for the other side.

Well, Flyby, as long as you can't get that 'good guys - bad guys' thing out of your mind, it will be impossible. But even then, I think we may rather relate to the our homeland. Games with frontiers- we still have that tribal thinking in our brains. I mostly fly my native side, but really enjoy the French or Bristish side sometimes, and had an American pilot from Dodge City, Kansas, flying a Nupe 28 - a real hotspur. I imagine to be a bloke from a small village in Cornwall, or a young dude from Arras, defending his fatherland - and it works. I can feel his emotions very well, as much as I can feel the German pilots side. It may help to read pilot's books from the "other side" - I recommend Udet. You will see, there isn't much of a difference in their attitudes - it's only in our minds.
  22. You do the finest research, with true love for the painted birds! And believe me, OvS, you brought me the greatest sim ever - I don't "play" anything else; I live here in my Nissen hut near the airfield of Jasta 6!
  23. I like the Lozenge particularly very much. Did they really fly on with the old mauve-green wing between the wheels, after having got the Lozenge fabric, OvS? I wonder how those crates with a Lozenge fuselage will appear! Great work!
  24. Nothing for ungood, but wenn you sink, se Dshermanns cannot English, sen you are heavy on se woodway. Only for such ownbreadlers like Westerwave it is highest railway to learn it now.
  25. Turning in the E V: Either bank softly 30 - 40° and use rudder for wider turns, or with speed/energy, bank hard, almost lying on your side, and turn using elevator Don't use rudder there! The craft is wonderful, once you know to fly it - I killed several SPAD XIII in it, when they made the mistake to try and turn with me. As the engine is not the strongest it could have had, make some energy for your moves by diving a little to gain speed.
