  1. Well, Ras, you could still participate here by telling little stories from the POW camp?
  2. Creaghorn: ...wich for purists also might be considered somehow as cheating. Naw, I wouldn't go that far. I do not believe, that a pilot, who shot down an enemy craft, had to quickly check all around, to find out, who might have witnessed this. If I could talk to the boys after a fight, they could tell me, who saw what; but in OFF, I just cannot do that.
  3. Just downloaded and installed "irfanview", and I must say, it's great to browse through the skins in there! Thank you, Sandbagger, for the tip! One note: make sure you also download the complete plugins package. I got to that by starting the installed "Irfanview", and click on "help". You can get to their site, where you can download it then.
  4. Von Paulus, there are three ways of claims possible in "workshop" already. Just choose a less complicated one, if you want. You don't need the actual nearest witness. Just write down all your flight's members before takeoff, and fill them into the names line - WITHOUT ranks, separated by comma and space. That's what I always do, and I get enough confirms. A nice step forward would of course be, if the witnesses who really "saw" your kill, would already appear in the names line. As the RL witnesses would have spoken to a pilot after a flight, and told him, that they witnessed his kill.
  5. Gun Room.

Sometimes you wonder, what resources those guys at Vintage Aviator must have. Amazing! A paradise for all, who are into WW1 air combat. Alone their documentation of the build of an Albatros D V replica with lots of photos is worth spending half an hour there For all who have never been there - have a deep look into everything, it is truely amazing! http://thevintageaviator.co.nz/
  6. Sqn Transfers

Yep, you can go back to fighters now. But that change of the one line worked very well for me without problems.
  7. 1. Do you always put your mission goals above all else ? Example: You are leading a flight of 6 fighters on a bomber escort mission. You barely are off the ground and spot a flight of 4 German bombers approaching your air field. Do you engage them or carry on with your assigment to meet and cover the bombers ? Why should I engage my fellow Germans? (Sorry, couldn't resist; had a clown for breakfast today! Lol!) Seriously now: on other mission types, I let myself get carried away by enemy fighters. Like railyard attacks: I'm always glad, when some Nupes in the infinity look like a threat I have to fight first. But when I escort other craft and crew, I do everything I can and should, to bring them back safe and sound. So, no: I would not engage the approaching bombers. Let someone else do the job. 2. Same mission. You are 10 miles from the target. You see a flight of 6 unknown a/c flying toward your flight + or - 2,000' above you and about 2miles to your left. Do you carry on or break off and identify them ? When I see specs to our left, I climb above my escorted flight to the right; I always bring my escorted flight between them and my fighters. That way, I don't loose sight of the bombers, and still see, if the enemy craft come nearer. When the specs approach, I try to identify them with my glasses (zoom in), but whatever they are - when I see, they go to attack my escorted flight, I am in the best position to come down on them. And I will do my best to knock them off! 3. Same mission, you id a flight of 6 enemy fighters following your flight at your altitiude. You are 8 miles from the target and they are about 7000 ft behind and slowly gaining on your flight. What do you do ? I climb above their altitude first, but stay with the bombers. My bombers won't follow that climb, so I wait, if the enemy fighters follow the bombers or my fighters. If they follow my fighters, I let them come closer and attack, as soon as I have an advantage of height, or if that can't be gained, I attack them at same level. If they keep the altitude and follow the bombers, I climb to best altitude (about 1500 - 2000 feet higher), and let them come closer to my escorted flight, before I attack, cause I don't want to grow a distance between my bombers and me. PS: don't worry too much about your bombers getting hit, before your actions show effect. As long as your bombers have a rear gunner, they can defend themselves, too, and they will. So you should watch, if there are attackers doing rather well and effective - kill those first!
  8. Good to have a spare third wing, ey? (Sorry, folks, couldn't resist). Creaghorn is right. It happened to LvR on 13. March 1918 in combat, at 4000 Meter (about 13.000 feet). "Thank god the machine did not go into a dive! With both remaining wings I could still bring it into a normal glide, but only (flying) straight ahead, as the rudder no longer functioned." (from "The Red Baron - Beyond the Legend" by Peter Kilduff)
  9. Hey, that was cute! I have a "little" sister, she was also such a cute monster. In our childhood days, I would have liked to tear her head off every second day (she KNEW how to tease me) - but I wouldn't want to miss her!
  10. Must be about 150 - 200 feet. Looks well shot, Morris!
  11. Found on Rosebud's website: http://www.earlyaeroplanes.com/archive1.htm under "Guido Scheffer Collection".
  12. Sqn Transfers

No, all you must do is change the squadron line in your pilot dossier. That is here: (game folder) > campaigns > campaign data > pilots Change the third line from the old Squad. to the new. Then make a short flight round the field, land and exit. When you go to briefing again, your pilot will be in the new Squadron; keeping all previous merrits. NOTE: the pilot files are always one number higher than the pilot in your log shows. That means, if your briefing shows the log of Pilot6, his files are those of pilot7.
  13. Sqn Transfers

Did this happen in Siggi's "Krauts vs Crumpets" campaign? You cannot transfer into a Squad., that has no aircraft available, without loosing the time, until they get it. You could only pick a different Squad.
  14. Attack from below is good, Ironhat. You perform a "sawtooth move", never getting too high and into gunner's range. Dive to gain energy, climb to fire into the belly. Don't climb too steep; you'd bleed off energy too quick. A 45° - 50° angle should be fine. The Bristol Fighter and the Roland 'Walfisch' are another cup of tea; they turnfight, and are very agile. They are very hard to fight simply because they always change their position, and the pilot will fly in a way, that gives the gunner the best field of fire. Waldemar, did you mean the Bristol Fighter (F2b)? Cause the 'Fee' (FE2b) does have a gunner, who can fire forwards.
  15. After the letter of Lt. Schulte, I also saw some books about German Jastas here. Thinking of getting me the one about Jasta 2 by Norman Franks. http://www.zvab.com/displaySearchResults.do?listId=2&startRecord=1
  16. Don't know, if only I had a problem getting to this website - it seemed offline for quite some time. But however - today I found it back again, and recommend it to all those of you, who haven't seen it yet; and maybe for the others to, to revisite it. There are really loads of good photographs! http://www.earlyaeroplanes.com/archive1.htm
  17. Christ, that one must have a poor vision - like the real Rhinos. Never saw it before.
  18. Creaghorns Homebrew

Hasse Wind: ...much better than the sound that comes with OFF. Well, don't forget that you would hear rather little of the MG sound in flight, under a leather helmet and with the engine running. Maybe the OFF sound was made for that?
  19. They will try, Catch, they will do. But since I have seen the "wire model" of a 3D model craft, I know, what an incredible amount of work it is. And you have to build three of them, for the varying distances. You have to build the interiour, and to make all the moving parts work and function. A 3D model is a piece of modern art really - and very time consuming.
  20. So you also couldn't get there, Uncle Al? Well then - thank you very much, Somebody!
  21. Hey, Windchill I could have sworn I posted this already, but no! So again (must have dreamt it): you could google for the free program download of "DXTBmp", a prog to browse through skins with, and to convert them from .dds files to 24 bit bmp files. On the bmp's, you could then work in Photoshop to create your own skins. Then you convert them back into .dds format into the skins folder, which is here: (your game folder) > campaigns > campaign data > skins
  22. Have been in Normandy, in some bunker - a very intensive feeling; as if time suddenly dissolves. You almost see, what happened, and you believe to hear a faint sound of hammering machine guns. I will go to some sites, where there had been German airfields. Toulis (Jasta 12) is on the list, as it is almost unchanged. Compare the aerial photo from back then with a Goggle map from today. The village hasn't even grown; the roads are the same.
  23. Boys, I WILL do, when all the recent private help jobs for friends are done - promised. (One couple moving out; we must renovate the flat; another couple moves into a house they bought before Xmas; lots of work there still). If the skins could be flown individually, couldn't all craft have a different ID letter, so you could switch off the disturbing labels?
  24. Winstons Saterday MP session

Good looking Nupes! Some questions: - Can a player fly an individual skin in MP ? (So that at least the numbering could be different?) - Will you only fly Entente side, or later a German one too?
