As Burning Beard said, Eject. FRAPS Full Version is great for 20,- Euro IMHO. You can cut your own movies from the FRAPS video, using Windows Movie Maker. Great fun! With the free version, you only get short sequences recorded. I recommend to download and try it, so you see what you get.
  2. Interesting read, Carrick, short and spot on! That's how I like them! If you want claims to be confirmed, you should take the time to write the names correct. Never heard of "Permount" - could it be "Premont", perchance?
  3. Tuba, ask Rickitycrate - he experimented with FreeTrack, which also just needs a webcam. But my advice is: sell your grandma! No, but Xmas is coming - tell all the family, that you only want this as a present, bought together. Or see, what you can do to get 150,- Dollar together - you will receive the real feeling and never regret it, once you got used to it! It's acomponent you can use with many sims, it will last.
  4. Oh, lucky America, lucky Australia and New Zealand - you have those birds in flying condition and such numbers, that you can even form a whole Jasta with one type, it seems. Wonderful to watch! What came to my mind watching the formation of Dr.1 - you really see, that they fly VERY careful, as if to avoid any collision or other accidents. Now, when we transpose that to war, to air combat - how big must the danger have been to collide! How small was situational awareness, when you chased an opponent, or you where chased. I cannot imagine that they did live up to the aerobatic abilities of their fighter planes very often. And Flyby, as I said to JimAttrill already - you're not the only Fee fan. Bullethead loves them, too.
  5. You're not alone there, JimAttrill - Bullethead seems to have the same vice. The S.E.5 looks impressive in it's bulky appearance. It looks good, although it isn't really beautiful. It looks British, and like understatement. I like her.
  6. Rugbyfan: The Fokker DR1, is only the best known because MVR was killed while flying it... That may be true. But two of the greatest aces of the British Empire agreed about this craft as being incredibly agile - Werner Voss fought 5 of their S.E.5 in it, and they had never seenanything like that. Rugbyfan: Also the DR1 was a poor copy of the Sopwith Triplane iMO, but that is another debate. That is only true so far, as the Sopwith Triplane (and the impressed reports about it by pilots such as MvR, saying it was a very agile craft) led the German high command to the belief, that Triplanes where better than biplanes. Now they wanted a German triplane. Anthony Fokker, being the clever businessman he was, built them one. Later tests showed, that the third wing was more a hindrance for speed development, than an improvement. The Fokker Dr.1 might have even been a greater biplane. So copy, for the basic idea, yes. But the word 'poor' would not come to my mind. As far as I know, MvR was excited. But it wasn't much of a copy. Fokker used the thick Goettingen airfoil, a new invention, that made stabilisers and wires unnecessary. When you look at the shapes of both craft, they are pretty different. The Sopwith has much longer wings. The Fokker is extremely small and has short wings - that made it such a turndevil. It wouldn't be fair though to compare the two craft directly, as the Fokker was developed after the Sopwith Triplane, and entered service, when the Triplane's was over. PS: I said recently, there was no beautiful British WW1 aircraft. Now, beauty as for the look is somehow relative - one man's meat... etc. - but I started a British campaign in a Triplane, and I must say, flying-quality-wise it must have been a very dangerous fighter in it's time, and for it's flying performance, it definitely is beautiful.
  7. Hahaha!! "Deunglish" - could you make sense of it?
  8. The total kills of a certain type must be seen in relationship to it's production numbers. In a quick search I found, that about 5490 Sopwith Camels where produced. Of the Fokker Dr.1 only 420 where built. So, for 13 Camels only 1 Dr.1 was built - and it still reached at least the same fame. I also read, that the Camel had more losses of craft and pilots than it had victories. And I'm pretty sure (yet searching for statistics), that, when you regard the victories related to the production numbers, the Fokker Dr.1 would be leading. Searching, I found this interesting statistic about losses in general at "The Aerodrome": Aircraft lost, shot down, damaged France: 52.640 Britain: 35.937 Germany: 27.637 If anyone has statistics about the total victories of the Camel and the Dr.1, I'd like to nkow them.

The cheapest, fastest way is simply to press F12. The shots are in "eigene Dateien (my files) > CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields". There is a free version of FRAPS (must google for it), which can make short video scenes, and screenshots. I use the full version, which costs about 20,- Euro. With that, you can create longer vids. And make screenshots.
  10. Bandy, to make the AI go home is not difficult, I assume. What makes it unfair, is when the player KNOWS, they'll go home after a while, saves lots of rounds, and follows them, shooting them down. My "umbrella tactic" would keep him from trying that, cause he would get into a big danger. That's why I would use it for an AI change.
  11. Read that! Normally, the British are known for their understatement, but this guy wrote: the most famous fighter of world war one. No I dare to assume, that the Fokker Dreidecker, especially when painted all red, is the most famous fighter of WW1, mein Herr.
  12. 1) Yes, smoother. 2) No idea 'bout America 3) Yep! 4) It all works, when you do the right things, so please explain, what doesn't work for you.
  13. Carrick: I must say that the Albatross handels nicely. She is a very reliable rugged craft. Not as agile as many others, but also not so nervous. Aiming and hitting something is easier, and the overall view is simply great. In other words: I love this Lady!
  14. Bandy: There has to be some trigger (a morale check so to speak) that causes AI to split the scene. Low ammo, too many of their wingmates down, leader down, etc... BUT some players want to shoot everything down, and so will follow and shoot fish in the barrel. Well, they wouldn't just retreat single in real life. They would assemble high. First there are some of them circling high, to be a protective guard. Then the lower ones climb under their shelter. An attacker must be aware of the danger from above - that way it would work. But to write that into the AI code... Quite some hard work, I suppose, if not impossible.
  15. OFF Forum Pilots Maps

Update 12/03/09 16:28 Berlin wintertime (= GMT + 1) foreigndevil, Belgium, added. All the maps are in post 1 of this thread
  16. Anyone use an HD TV as a monitor?

    Widowmaker, I - MISSED - THAT - ! - Lord Flashheart strikes back!
  17. Wow, appraiserfl, that looks like a cockpit there, indeed. Must be great fun. About your getting shot down: von Richthofen and the other aces flew much more defensive or careful, than we do. He only attacked, when the situation was clearly to his advantage. They took no risks awarely - the whole thing was risky enough even with his attitude. Read Creaghorn's posts about his way to collect more than 200 hours it's all about taking care of yourself first, and situational full awareness. I try it and get better slowly, but still, I'm more the hazardous type of pilot.
  18. First Impressions

Good to hear, foreigndevil. There are graphics tips for the settings in the website www.overflandersfields.com When you haven't seen them yet, take a look there also. And please send me a PM with your hometown and country - I will add you to our OFF Pilots Maps then. Thanks!
  19. Thank you, Ras. And when you google "The Blue Anchor" and "Spingo", and search for Helston and Porthleven in Google Maps, you'll see it's all there. Carrick, when you sometimes only get 80 % throttle: move your throttle during the start phase full forward and full back, before and after pressing "E", several times. That should ashure you get the full range.
  20. My 2 cents: as long as no one manages to survive even only one year in this war, and most even can't make 17 hours, the AI can't be bad. Today I watched a fight between four Albatros and three Triplanes, and it was great fun to watch, how well everyone was turning! And yesterday, I had a sortie with Gontermann and Udet. Udet smoked a cheeky SPAD in seconds; later he cleared my tail - great!
  21. Anyone use an HD TV as a monitor?

Widowmaker, a friend of mine (with a well paid job) plays "STALKER Call of Pripjat" on his HD TV. It's more than one meter wide, and when we sit on his sofa, about 1,5 Meter away (mayne two) it looks incredibly good, andstill very big. (But that screen cost 1.200,- Euro, which keeps it in Dreamland for me).
  22. No. 1 Squadron RNAS, Bailleul Asylum 1/6/1917 Patrol Behind Enemy Front Lines Flying: Sopwith Triplane. On this day claims: 1 Alb DIII . We had a patrol around Halluin/Rekkem. On the way back, "Teddy" Gerrard's A-flight went down low and clashed with Albatros fighters, short after crossing the lines. I decided to join the fight; it was on our terrain, and I chased one craft and hit it severely. It was dark blue, with a red nose. I had a gun jam, but when the German tried to escape over the line, I got it cleared and shot him down. He crashed east/south-east of Ypres. Witnesses: Edgar Gunn, Leif Parker, Tock Swithin, Jeff Evans Mr. & Mrs. Oldham 17 Harbour Rd. Helston/Porthleven Cornwall GREAT BRITAIN No. 1 Squadron RNAS, Bailleul Asylum, June 2, 1917 Dear Mum and Dad Today I have overcome the impression, that the enemy craft are undestroyable. I have shot down my first Albatros scout! His craft was painted colourful like the Germans often do. The most of the fuselage was dark blue; the nose was red. I chased and hit him several times in a low fighting, but then I had a gun jam. He almost escaped. In the last minute I could clear again, and shoot him down, short before he crossed the line. Edgar Gunn, Leif Parker, Jeff Evans and Tock Swithin saw it best, and the boys where wonderful: they let me have him! When I came to the wreckage later, the German lay beside the plane, with some oil smeared cloth covering his head. When I removed it, I saw why the boys had covered his face. It was badly smashed. He didn't look at all frightening now; rather pale, faint - like a young student maybe. What irritated me most, was his staring into eternity - smiling. As if he was glad he was disburdened from this all. And it was good, that he smiled - somehow. Wish I could be with you in Porthleven. Having some of your shepperd's pie, mum. We could walk over to Penrose, dad, and be fishing at the Loe all afternoon. In the evening I would have a bicycle race with Craig up to the "Blue Anchor" in Helston. I would let him win, and buy the drinks all evening. Miss that rich flavour of Dave's Spingo - the best he could brew for the homecoming boys! Wish I could have that last afternoon again, with Caitlyn at Praa Sands beach... Gawd! The more I write, the more homesick I get - I think, I better move my bum over to the mess! This evening will be quite expensive for me - all of No. 1 Squad must know by know, that I downed my first Hun. Hope to see you some soon day, perhaps even with Robert also on leave! Your son David
