CheckSix: OFF has fairly heavy demands on computing power, but its worth it. My system is not the latest stuff (CPU E6650 Dual Core, ATI RADEON X1900 Graphic card), abd all is running fine. You can choose lower settings in the "Graphics Config", as I did, and the amazing thing is: it still looks very good. (see my screenshots in the thread of same name). CheckSix: You may think about buying OFF for yourself, as once you see it up and running on your brother-in-law's machine A clear NO to that! If you are only a little bit into WW1 air combat sims, you MAY not only think about buying it - you WILL damn yourself for not having ordered two copies straight away. And I am a normal buyer and user, I don't get percentage for saying that. The only thing you might not like about it, is your minor ability to survive the AI's fighting you. But even for that case there are two solutions: 1. you can adjust a lot in the "workshop", to make it easier 2. train it and get better

Thanks, Siggi - but only three WW1 pics. I know he did many more. I'll try "The Aerodrome" again. -

??? I had expected this thread to be about the wheather. But it is rather politics. ???

Do I need a flying Noah's Ark?
Olham replied to DukeIronHand's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Duke, what time is your campaign? European wheather is like this: Rainy: November, December. Snow: January, February, early March Mixed: March, April Sunny: May, June, July, August Mixed: September, October OFF reflects that quite good. So my advice: start a campaign on 1. May. You'll like it! (Oh, and check your "workshop" settings. Wheather should follow camaign dynamicly - not be static. But there you may even be able to set a static, always sunny wheather.) -

Yeah, and that they make a lot of profit! Jarhead, as you use a Dietz painting - do you know a good website with his works? -
"Dicta Duce" is good advice! Especially over enemy terrain don't take ANY risks at all - cause even then, there still is Flak.

OT - Band of Brothers on Sale!
Olham replied to Duce Lewis's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Duce, why didn't you look into Amazon? You get normal DVD format there for 17,- Euro. And for BlueRay you pay some 33,- Euro. See here: http://www.amazon.de...59058247&sr=1-5 So for the normal DVD format it would be 22,- Dollar, if I calculated it right. -

Hi, Xavier! Are you flying OFF ? If so, would you send me a PM with your hometown and country, please? I'd like to add you to the OFF Pilots Map. Thanks! -
You could check the ingame red text, that comes up through pressin "Z" or Shift+Z - not sure. There should be a time. Compare start time to landing time. I will try that, plus checking a real clock I will put near my monitor.

OT - Another great one receives his wings
Olham replied to Check Six's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Thanks for the posting, CheckSix - I had not known, that he was still alive? He must have been a man with very strong nerves, to survive so many sorties, and then even get flying the Lockheed Starfighter later. -
So true, Crockett12. I just thought to encourage you to get the full immersion. You can make a lot of settings easy in "Workshop", and use the "pause" key to regain an overview. It IS surely very hard to "remain hooked" to an opponent. Do you use TrackIR?

Watching my observer/gunner's actions and reactions on the nearest enemy craft, I had the following thought: wouldn't it make a big visual difference, if the AI pilots would turn their heads / faces to the players in a fight? Don't know, if possible at all, but if so, and not too hard work - wouldn't that look real cool?

UncleAl, moving ammo belts are a nice addition, as my moving heads. I'm sure the team would like them too, but when it takes a lot of work and time to get there, they will rather make more models and skins first - and they are right there.

I have a record by Eyeless In Gaza, called "Caught in Flux". On the inner sleeve are photographs made in Nuneaton, England, in the 50s it looks. A whole town flooded from the rains. Not high, and not floating fast (that's what makes it dangerous), just kneedeep water. In the 50s. So I'm sure it happened before, too.

Changing Aircraft during a campaign?
Olham replied to Morris's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
SirMike, since OFF is about simulating the true air combat of world war one, you will not get that feature. But what we will get with the first add-on, is the personal individual skin. Your wingmen won't share it anymore. That's a great change for me! -
Albatros D Va "Stropp" ready for download
Olham posted a topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - Skinning / Modeling Help
Although the restauration documentation of this plane, from the National Air and Space Museum, shows the plane with Lozenge wings, I followed Dan San Abbott from The Aerodrome, who is said to have seen almost every photo showing wartime Albatros. He believes, the plane rather had Darkgreen/Mauve camouflage on the upper wing surfaces. I may though add the other version later, too. -

I'm also on XP so far. Next week I may change over to VISTA, cause I got it from a friend who went to Windows 7. Then I'll see how it goes. -
working on an alternate map
Olham replied to Waldemar Kurtz's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Dej: Rabu's maps are excellent, but far too big to overlay on the in-game map and by the time you've reduced it enough to fit all the legibility is lost. Oh, I see! -
Changing Aircraft during a campaign?
Olham replied to Morris's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hmm - I read only short time ago, that this is not so anymore, as stated by Polovski. Maybe you should update your VISTA? And then try it again? -
working on an alternate map
Olham replied to Waldemar Kurtz's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Waldemar, did you ever think of using Rabu's maps. Cause they show all the roads and towns, and the "full reality" simmers fly after printouts of that map. It is somewhere among the sticky threads above, and it is made in 12 or 16 parts. Just have a look there, if you haven't seen it. And yes - makin a map is definitely one of the less time-consuming problems on such a sim. -

Well, Mike - the S.E.5 hunting the Eindecker, that would not have happened surely. This picture demonstrates, how much development happened in 4 - 5 years. RAF_Louvert: Do it the Bruno Stachel way. Naw! Although I am more like Stachel than like MvR, I'll keep it with MvR here, who said about looping and such manoeuvers: "I'm not in this for artistics!" (or similar). -
In "Quick combat", friendly and enemy positions are much more mixed, it seems. Enemy troops may move along the road of "your" airfield, and such. The "real thing" is of course the campaign - there you won't see that.

Changing Aircraft during a campaign?
Olham replied to Morris's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
UncleAl, VISTA might have been unpredictable early on. But when you update it to todays standards, it shouldn't make problems anymore. You should erase some memories, that have been overcome.
