Anyone still on the fence about buying this sim?
Olham replied to Siggi's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hmm - that's interesting! In my native homeland Ostfriesland by the north sea, we have an area with many very old villages, that are built on man made hills made from the marshland's clay. They built these, because the north sea came for tea every now and then, and those hills where high enough for halfways normal storm floodings. Dykes came later. Now, these settlements (which we call Warf) had the names of their main Chiefs, plus "hum" behind that. One guy's name was Pewe, so his settlement was "Peweshum", which still exists as "Pewsum". Another was Eilt, so it was Eiltshum, today Eilsum. Here the historians say, "hum" stands for "Heim" (home). But your version sounds interesting. Could perhaps the word "home" come from a high and dry place to settle on? -

So there would be not the least chance to find these as paperbacks? -

Forget QC - when you want the real thrilling athmosphere, start a campaign. And give me a PM with your hometown and country for the OFF Pilots Maps, please. -

Oh, I know that - German director Wim Wenders made a film with that title "Paris, Texas". Probably the only movie, where the great Harry Dean Stanton has the lead role. A very good, and also very heart-tearing picture. -

Hmmm - well, could be worse. Looks like the pedestrians shopping zone in Spandau, Berlin. And above all the typicall north sea light grey sky - not different to my native Ostfriesland. (Isn't the web great? You hear of a place somewhere in the world, type it into Google Pictures, and there you are. There is also an Oldham in Texas and maybe elsewhere, too.) -
Mr. Lucky, to say something positive about the American soldiers: when I saw the Normandy landing scene in "Saving Private Ryan" (and please don't come up with all your critics about that movie now again, everybody!), I thought, my god, that's tough, to hold on to your mission and go through such a hell. The Americans did a great deal of defending off and beating the Nazi regime, and it may not be so obvious for you Americans and British to see - but they also released me and my generation from them. They also released the Germany of the "normal people" from Hitler's terror. And I say it loud and clear: I am grateful for that to those boys! Salut!

Of course Europe is a small world - look at our OFF Pilots Maps in the "sticky threads" above. Britain is so crowded by OFF Pilots alone, that they have to swim in the north sea all the time! My "Olham" has nothing to do with "Oldham" - it's rather my family name backwards, which is Mahlo, spelled like and related to the American "Marlowe". Oldham - does that really come from "old ham", or is the "ham" here rather an ending for towns or villages, like in Nottingham? (Rather the latter, I suppose). -
Widowmaker, we're not so far away from each other, it seems! I had to take Liver Oil too, called "Lebertran" in German! It's soooooo healthy! Well it must be, the way it tastes you wouldn't try it for any other reason surely!! Mine was first without malt even! Bahrghhhh!!! Later it was a product called "Omnival" (I think) - that had enough other tastes in there to halfways cover the liver oil. Oh, sweet days of youth, you're gone - trallala - and that is good that way!

Okay, I have checked it in WIKI - they are my most hated childhood days' food: Steckrüben. My mother couldn't think of any other way but to add salted speck to this sweetish vegetable. Argghhh!!!

CptRoyce: If you have the least bit of interest in WW1 aviation or flight/combat simming in general, this is probably the best purchase one could make in a PC flight sim. OvS: This is the best statement about OFF I have ever read and sums it all up perfectly! Way to go Cap! Olham: Indeed - almost: he could have dropped the "probably"! -

No need to warn me of the Brisfit! I had lots of trouble with them! Lately, I have always ordered my wingmen to attack, so the Bristol was kept busy, and only then I attacked, and really shot my last two down without getting the notorious engine damage. But alone - never! -
It's not "bratworst", but "Bratwurst". From "Braten" (to frie or to roast) and "Wurst" (sausage) - so it's just a fried sausage or a roasted sausage (don't know which one you'd use). But what the heck are "rutabagas" ? Well, I have the OFF music in my head and often hum the "opening title", and also the "Adagio".

One of those Jasta 18 daredevils, I suppose? Is that downed Camel a skin by OFF? -
Mr.Lucky, try at "The Aerodrome" website. There must be illustrations/art somewhere. Also try "Google Pictures", with "ww1 art" or WWI illustration painting", like that. You should get a lot.

Lou: They have some beautiful items for sale there, and some of the prices look quite reasonable. Your wife may see that differently? -
JFM, that's right about the claims - it wouldn't feel good to click on the simple claims proceedure. Be aware, that you must avoid semicolons in claim reports - they work as a setting for "end". Since I regard that, my claims get much better confirmed. We will soon get the new Albatros fighter in Jasta 2, and I tell ya, with those two 08/15 "Spandaus", you will be able to let a Nupe fall out of the sky shreddered to stripes of canvas. Good shooting is most important for that type of fighter, as the French and British can all turn better. I developed an instinctive and pretty good deflection shooting. They don't even get near me. Yes, I will see yer in Bertincourt - remain high! Pappy, with that avatar, you shouldn't worry too much about shooting down the 2seaters - MvR did. You must see it that way: even when they can't fight, they have missions - recon, artillery spotting, aerial photography - and it will be used for killing many of your soldiers. So get them down, boy! (Even if it does feel queesy to down the defenseless BE2c - it is sure a part of the enemy's fight).

Canvas Wings and all: Click on al the pics in Siggi's site. You will find the proceedure for the mailing explained in full detail - please read and follow it. Siggi asked us all, to only post once per week (so he won't get flooded with reports), and preferably on Saturday/Sunday, when he has more time at hand. UncleAl, Hetzer is an agitator or a baiter. A German Sturm tank without turnable turret was also named like this. "Hetzen" in German means also to chase a prey to exhaustion.
