  1. First Campaign

Yeah, welcome in Jasta 2, JFM! I also have a pilot there. You'll get the Albatros on September 19th there, I believe to remember. If you start earlier, you can fly the Halberstadt for a bit, which is not bad, if you know what you're doing. She climbs pretty well, and I could shoot down three Nieuport N11 in that crate. But of course, the trigger fingers are itching for the two 08/15 LMG.
  2. Nieuport 28 :

My Albatros D III and D V versions also have a weak point: their lower wing breaks easily, when you dive to hard, or even in tight turns. But you get used to it. I would test this crate and find out, when it happens - and then use her well, without doing those things. I believe, she'll be a great fighter.
  3. Stump, I would use a) more polite: "Poker und Frauen" or b) a bit more vulgar: "Poker und Weiber"
  4. Could be a scene from a David Lynch film, almost. And there is another film, where Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin crash in the wilderness with a plane. Hopkins asked Baldwin, if he knew, what all those people died from, who got lost in a wilderness. Baldwin replies unwillingly. "What could they possibly die from? Hunger? I say, they die from hunger." Hopkins replies. "No, they die from shame. They are so ashamed of their own unability to deal with nature, that they die."
  5. Was? "Schurhaken und Damen" ? What did you want to say, Stump? I think, it's "Poker and Ladies"? But we say Poker here in Germany too, for the card game - Schurhaken is just a device of the same name for keeping an open fire going. Not used for the game here though.
  6. I think you got it right, Pol. Such instruments may have been expensive and valuable then, A bomber or observer craft needs to make sure that they get to a certain altitude, and they flewso high, that they actually had to be careful about oxygen. A scout like the Albatros had no real reason for an altimeter.
  7. My DFW C.V has an altimeter - my Albatros not.
  8. OT (WW2) The Great Escape

Hahaha!!! Here in Germany, we see your "Little Lord Fauntleroy" with Alec Guinness every Christmas time! And for Sylvester eve, the 169th repeat of "Dinner for one" by and with Freddie Frinton, an absolute must for many Germans. I read, that it wasn't too successful in Great Britain, but here, people love that good old butler James, getting more and more drunk throughout the "Dinner for One". Funny, isn't it? Maybe that's because you have so many good comedy on TV. You Crumpets actually brought humour here really - the Pythons among the first. And I wish they had tried to translate Blackadder...
  9. Before we all block the whole Forum with seperate threads for each pilot, I have thought fof starting this one for all of the German flyers. To make a linking to Siggi's website possible, each should only write 1 post, and later add/ edit it. You may later wipe out earlier stuff, and condense it to the most important bits, or you write in more and more, interrupted by the date line, so everyone can follow. It's free choice, you can of course also start an own elsewhere. Just thought it might be nice to find them all in one thread. Blue skies!
  10. This thread is finished - I wish I could erase it, but I can't. All further posting of combat reports/results in the new thred "KRAUTS VS CRUMPETS", please everybody. DerMo, I sometimes have problems with that "dark side" thing myself, but here it was used just as an over-the-top expression for a battle we fight for fun. I didn't want it to sound serious at all. I'd never use that expression seriously.
  11. Hi, Red Dog I think, Siggi meant, that you should follow the proceedure of transmitting your data to him, as explained in his website - otherwise the killboard will show zero sorties forever. I's like to invite you to post in the "Krauts vs Crumpets" thread, that Lou and I have installed? We thought it would be nicer, when we all post in one thread, so we see each others deeds far better, and have a nicer exchange of gossip and banter.
  12. Nieuport 28 :

Wow, this is a sharp looking crate? I will sure fly an American campaign pilot soon! The Bordeauxred Baron: Wunderbar! Vatt a bjootifull crate! My trigger finger iss itchink to shredder zatt butterfly!!! Mmmuahahahahahaaaaa!!!!
  13. Calendar messed up?

Hey, Stiffy - hope that works, and won't mess up your pilot files for you. Most of us stay grounded today, as far as I know. But if this works...? Should I....??
  14. And if you like Gimpyguy/UncleAl's Tipps & Tricks - they are still there in the stickies. All your questions should be answered there.
  15. OT (WW2) The Great Escape

You may or may not know, but the famous film 'The Great Escape' is based on a true story. After the escape, 50 of the escapees were indeed shot / murdered by the Gestapo. As I understand it, this program is the story of how the RAF tracked down those responsible after the war. Uhh! That's nasty! No, I didn't know that. I hope they got the bastards? I only know the movie, and I love it. I can see it again and again every two years.
  16. Pilot Detail Questions

    Show your log occasionally, Capt.Sopwith!
  17. Maenner! Gentlemen! All further posting in the "Krauts vs Crumpets" thread, please. That way, we will all see each other's stuff; that should get us "out of our trenches" and share the fun of this all - together. Okay?
  18. Guys, landings work much better now than in Phase2. When a field has a clear approach, the wings really make a good landing. Unfortunately, they sometimes crash into each other on the runway. But often, it works and looks heartwarming! You can, by the way, shoot down the tree (honest!) with your MGs. But I don't know, if they will remain downed the next start.
  19. Pilot Detail Questions

Hey, Capt.Sopwith THE PHOTOS You'll find them in here: (your game folder) > campaign > campaign data > pilot photos You can retouche your own face in one - let's say, pilot6.bmp Now you save the original as pilotX.bmp, and save your own as pilot6.bmp In your log you see, what pilot nr. the pilot photo shows. If the pic is pilot 4, then you must name your pic also pilot4.bmp But always save the old one, or make a backup of the whole folder, just for security. THE NAMES You can change them in the pilot dossier file. You find it here: (your game folder) > campaigns > campaign data > pilots The pilot you want to change, will always be one number higher - if you search for Pilot 4, it will be the dossier for Pilot 5 you need. Now you find further down in the text the names of your wingmen. These can be replaced by your names. But careful! You must keep semicolons inbetween the first names and family names and everywhere else, where they where used before. And you can't/shouldn't change the amount of names. When there are 12, but you have 13, you must drop one. If you only have 11 names, keep the last original one. After all, there MUST be the same number of pilots.
  20. Congrats, Red Dog , you seem to have hit something! At least some crates with turnips!
  21. Hey, Widowmaker - I'd love to see you on board. If you could make it any time after finishing the worst work? We don't have to fly every day, nor even a ceratin amount of hours per month. You fly as you can. You only have to do your 17 hours on a Strutter, or 5 kills on it; and then you change over to a fighter unit with the boys. When you fly those hours, is your decision. You just press "advance time" to catch up with the current date, cause we all fly sorties on the corresponding day in 1916. If you die or get caught, you have to start in the Strutter again. Your country needs you!
  22. BALDRIC'S COMBAT REPORT LINKS Since Baldric cannot edit his post for very long for some reason, I have installed this post for him, to be linked to Siggi's Killboard. In here, you will find the numbers of all of Baldric's Combat Reports posts, he made elsewhere. Just click on the links to get to them. Reports 1 and 2 (corresponding to mission 1 and 2 respectively) are in the Reports from the Front thread, #343 #352 #353 Reports 3 & 4 are in Olhams Report Thread here , and are combined in post #3.
  23. First Campaign

Pappy, the Halberstadt feel quite good, once you have become an experienced pilot. At the beginning, the Albatros D II would be nicer. But you'll get it soon. You can advance the date, when you choose a Jasta, by clicking on that dart right of the shown date. And yes, MvR had his first victory on 17th. I think, he then had the D II already.
  24. Sorry to hear that about the file change problems. Maybe Creaghorn and I expected you to know about some basic things, which you didn't know. When you change the names, you must: - save a copy of that whole pilot file, so you could replace it later in case of problems - keep the same typestyle and size - replace the SAME amount of pilots - keep all the semicolons, where they where before Most important: whenever you change anything - make a safety copy before!
