  1. A little OFF vs ROF Humor Video

Well, OvS, I get the subtitles, when I move my mouse cursor to the lower edge of the video's screen. My personal opinion on this: This IS funny, of course, but it's also, in a way, sim bashing, even when on a funny level and not at all aggressive. Your decision.
  2. Project Aerodromes

Yes, I see - so for now, an aerodrome may be in a circa position to the real one; or two fields, that had been near each other in RL, would have been made into one in OFF, and so on? So, what you CAN do perhaps, Check Six, is to ask everyone for their airfield's latitude and longitude values (which you can get by pressing "Z", I think - check the "controls"). Now, if you collect these data, and give your maps the Lat./Long. scale at the top and the side, the dromes could now be put in there, where they are in OFF (no matter, where they had exactly been in RL). What do you say to that?
  3. Project Aerodromes

Hi, Check Six Some time ago, I made a great find of trench- / field maps at the McMaster University. Dej then started that project, to build maps for Google, with excerpts of the field maps laying over it, half transparent, and the sign for the aerodrome, with a text bubble saying what it was, and when it was used by whom. I don't know, if he is still at it - one of the problems might be the copyrights for those maps. But here I give you that adress. Click on 1:5.000 and 1:40.000 scale. You get the whole front area there, and can now click at one of the squares for regions. Then you will get a list of all the maps for that, in varying scales, for different times of war etc. You can zoom into those maps, and you will find many blue or red aircraft signs for the aerodromes on both sides. It may help you to locate many of your known ones accurately. I'm sure you will love them. http://library.mcmaster.ca/maps/ww1/WW1_Maps.htm
  4. Yes, the second one was always my favourite read in the book about MvR by Peter Kilduff. Foe the first one: Which airfield did he attack? Which craft did he fight? I could imagine very good, how the crew on the ground got really mad about him, and, despite the danger of a scramble, climbed their crates to get that "bastard" down. He must have been born under the influence of Mars.
  5. Nice attack

Iti, to make your wingmen attack a specific aircraft, you need TAC, set to "aircraft". Then you click "next target", until the right craft is chosen; then press "A" attack. I have tried to do this, plus changing the assignment and press "A" again, and repeat that, so they might know I want them to attack three craft. It seems to work, but to be honest, I'm not sure. If you get into a furball, you can either a) press "attack" without marking any craft. Then they will attack freely. or b) press "help" key - now they will problay attack the craft closest to you (but also the one you are chasing). For all these commands, press "escape", go to controls, and assign them, as you like them. I have mine put on joystick buttons. You must therefor leave one old assignment, and make a new one as a second one. Only after that can you delet the old one.
  6. OFF Forum Pilots Maps

Update 10/13/09 12:56 Berlin time (GMT +2) Gromit, Oklahoma, added. VonGuber, New Mexico, added. the maps are in post 1 of this thread
  7. Winder wrote: we are making progress on this and have already gotten to the stage where the player can have a unique skin in his flight. That's definitely some very good news! Really looking forward to that! And as for eventually "broken" missions, I'll send you the next one where I get that problem.
  8. Well, if our A-Flight and B-Flight are sent to a balloon attack at point X, and now A-Flight - even at warp - runs into an enemy flight - then I would run into them too, cause I have the same route and am not far behind, right? No, what they often do, is, they decide on a completely different target, like a ground attack, and leave our path towards our 9 o'clock and far away. And since we don't have radio, how can they possibly come to the conclusion, that that ground attack in some vicinity is of more importance than our ballon?
  9. Wow, Rickity, those pictures are great, completed with photo book edges even! Wonderful! You seem to get mote and moer advanced - your avatar is high tech! And the skin of the DFW was Bullethead's, I think? It looks great!
  10. My experience is, that the guy in the rear seat is shooting better than I could. But he does need a good target view. So I would fly the Strutter in that way, that he can really aim at the nearest attacking craft, but also staying close to my Strutter flight. Maybe you can lure the attacker into positions, that give him hell from all other rear gunners. That should do fine. But if you see, they prefer to attack only your companions, as they fly level straight, then I would approach them like a fighter, bringing my gunner in good positions.
  11. Nice attack

Wow, that was the proof, that the better pilots in good craft can even survive getting jumped at. When you want them to follow you in your right turn, press the "rejoin" command, but they react always a bit sluggish. Or, when you realise, the Pups will inevitably jump on you whatever you do, you could press "Attack" - then they may be prepared a bit earlier. Great fighting, Carrick!
  12. The "Sharky Pfalz" was by Widowmaker - I used the mouth on an Albatros. But it fits better on the Pfalz.
  13. The campaign is so awesome..

No wonder it's good. It by that Japanese animation artist Miyazaki, it seems. One one more carried by a rock song of the Foo Fighters. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3M3rY5Y4LU&feature=related
  14. The campaign is so awesome..

Yeah, but I like such stuff.
  15. Did you do those "skeletton musicians" yourself?!?
  16. Well, now I can show his log here as well - my best pilot got captured. But I wouldn't have done it any other way. We escorted 5 DFW C.V over the front line NW of Lens. Flight 1 was too far ahead, when I spotted 4 SPAD VII from RFC-23 approaching our recon flight. I turned and gathered my men; then we engaged. The SPADs had shot down 2 DFW right at their first go, and we could only try to save the other two. But when we all had just entered the tango, 8 (in words: EIGHT!) more SPAD appeared - now it was our 6 to their 9. I shot the right lower wing off one craft, and when I turned, I saw Douglas Urchart 'Mac' McGregor creeping up on me! We danced up and down, and he tried to confuse me with some really good manoeuvers. But when he finally came out of them, he seemed more dizzy than I was, and I shot him down. But then I got hit by his wingman, and, although I quickly evaded the tracers, he had hit my tank or engine so, that it stopped short after. A look at the map - too far behind the line, or too low for a long glide. I tried it, but I came down on the wrong side. POW for the rest of the war. The only chance to survive all this for longer, lies in flying very defensive, and only pick the safe chances for a kill. But I can't let a recon flight alone, that we where sent to escort. Impossible. I would live, but I wouldn't be happy with it. Leutnant Werner Mahlo was the previous one I lost. But I'll try again, Crumpets!! (Didn't know, the Tommies had the SPAD VII).
  17. In the 70s, I stayed in a Bed & Breakfast, and got such a "banger" with baked beaks, scrambled eggs, grilled tomato and toast. I can't remember if it was pork (right) or beef (wrong), but what I can remember, is that I didn't need to eat anything after that the whole day, and I couldn't have, even if I had wanted to.
  18. ww1 initialising,,,,,,,

gwar, there is, as UncleAl said, another area for Phase II - can someone lead him there? Your problem might be due to a wrong resolution setup, or, if you run a non-English system, put settings Regional Language settings to "English" in your system.
  19. The campaign is so awesome..

Wow, didn't know Porco Rosso (Red Pig?), and I must be getting old to post this one here - sheer kitsch and sob stuff - but when someone draws WW1 flying boats, I make an exception (Sob!) http://www.youtube.c...feature=related
  20. Indeed! You may find your end, falling like a burning torch out of the sky. but for that case, you could take a revolver with you. But in the trenches, your feet might rott away in your always wet boots from bakteria and fungus. Your brain might be blown out from the impact of a the bullet of a sniper, who had waited for your head to show. And if a granade hit your part of the trench, you where either torn to pieces or (my worst horror-scenario) burried alive - unable to get a hand to that above revolver... Me, I would have chosen the flying, any time! Even as a rear gunner.
  21. The sopwith pup.

The Bordeauxred Baron: Oh, I like Pups - vizz mustard! Mmuahahahahaaaaa!!!! No, honestly - zey fly as beautiful as a butterly - ant ar as easy to make "kaputt" - Mmuahahahahahahahahaaaaaa!!!!! Olham: I tried it some time ago, and you had to hold it to fly straight forward - it seemed to have a strong urge to climb, which it can do well with little effort. It was easy to fly. But view is a bit poor, when you come from an Albatros or a Pfalz; large upper wing with an "attic window" (otherwise the pilot wouldn't see whom he chases), and that more than annoiing ring in front of your face. Since I have developed my shooting to some extent, I may try it again, cause the flying bit is real fun. But it doesn't appear to me as a fighter really. Must give her another campaign to find out.
  22. Don't know what 'bangers' are, but Fish 'n Chips and tea & crumpets should be fine. Again I read about unrecoverable stall of a Dr.1 here - must do some testing soon. That shouldn't happen. The Brisfits almost always hit your engine right at the start of an attack. You can only attack them by sending your wingmen first (they seem to be immune to that), and then join in. You can get the Bristol then, without being hit.
  23. Always looking great, the Pearson paintshemes. But he got a name wrong. Friedrich Altmemeier is really Friedrich Altemeier. Does anyone have a colour chart of Munsell or Methuen colours, or a link to one of those, to see the colours mentioned in the charts? Thanks for sharing, Lou! Jasta 6 seems to have been the Staffel, that got the new craft first, always. At least in BHaH I noticed that.
  24. Yeah, I tried the gunner in a C III, too. I didn't hit anything really. I wonder, if you can use your hatswitch for looking left and right - I think, it worked somehow, to get a view separate from moving the gun. But I don't remember how.
  25. Well, even if the D VIII never got into action (which is what it looks like), and with no shoe box under your bed, your chart is a great contribution, showing here, that there where numerous E.V delivered to several Jastas. And those most definitely saw some action, until the withdrawal due to wingbreaks. You gave us a good feeling, that we won't use a "secret weapon of the Luftwaffe" type, but a craft, which really was in combat - even if for short time. A bit like the twin gun Tripe, which was limited in real life as well. Thank you for that, Lou!
