  1. Your life in their hands?

Yes, I did some observer tasks in the Roland. You have to have a good stomach, to begin with (ever 'stood on the brakes' as some wild car driver's passenger?). Then, aiming at and hitting a fast scout coming in on you in a curve is very hard, and I never hit anything, to be honest. And then, the last thing the observer could do for his pilot was to be a living sandbag to protect him from the tracers. Thinking of how they had to intrude deep into enemy terrain under lousy circumstances, makes me feel really sad for these boys, who should have had their whole life yet to live, but so often where butchered, burnt, or bleeded to death. Salut to them all.
  2. Welcome back at the front, Homeboy. You will soon realise, that this Trojan is a minor problem, when you have to face the twin Spandaus again. Lol! Good you're back here!
  3. Lost kills

It's only a bit circumstancial at the beginning; after short time, you will get used to where which key is. I don't think about it anymore. But remeber: your wings can only understand any orders, when they are within a range to "see" your waving and pointing. Once a flight is split up all over Flanders, they wont get them. Have fun!
  4. payback

Hmmm! That should have tought them a harsh lesson, but be careful, you don't become like Goering, shooting down the easy ones, and letting your wingies get their bums toasted, Carrick.
  5. Tailend Charlie's end

Welcome back, Baldric! As the tail end Charly, you didn't have another wingmen then to cover you, I assume. I wonder, if the wingman can also call the guy he covers, for help (H) ? Normally, the British are as fair and good comrades as the Germans, I'm sure. I think, they couldn't see, where you were. The best thing to do in one Pup against two Albatros (1 gun vs 4 !) is IMHO to climb in spiral out and away, cause your climb should be a lot better than theirs. But they fought like I do in that heavier crate: I fire long range bursts at them to damage their craft, and then I can get them. The firepower of German crates should never be underestimated - a short hit can be devastating.
  6. OT Grave Humour

Oh Lord, mankind was perhaps your funniest creation.
  7. For Stumpjumper: I found these links for Hanriots in 1:72 scale: http://www.internetm...ot-Casirati.htm http://www.internetm...Hanriot_HD3.htm And here is an Ebay offer, that will end tomorrow: http://cgi.ebay.de/P...002162005r30964 I think, that is even in Berlin. If you desperately want it, I could try to get it for you. Please send me a PM.
  8. Well, the much better AI is definitely another, but I get, what you mean. As we are visual beings, and personal combat markings where already done on the shields of our ancestors, this is truely a Super News and something, that will give us great pleasure for all the future versions of OFF!
  9. Ras, us skinners have already made many, many skins available in the "Download" section, sub-category "Over Flanders Fields", sub-category "Aircraft skins and models". Widowmaker, Beanie (where is he, by the way?), Red Dog, RAF Louvert, myself and others put lots of skins in there (mine where mostly Albatros types); so you should have a look there. Duce, if you have a program to work on photos with, like Photoshop, you could search for an eagle or whatever in the web, and then tweak the picture. First I press Ctrl. + X, then I make a new file with background set to "transparent", then add the cut out file into it by pressing Ctrl. + V. Now, when you carefully remove the surrounding with eraser tool or by choice made per "magic wand" tool, you'll get a free eagle to put over your skin. (How to work on a skin, see the "Skinning" sector in the "Over Flanders Fields" main list.) Now you tweak this eagle. There might be for example a way to devide the pics colours into only three or four, like on my Milan. Then there should also be ways to alter the colours. And finally, I wrote "Milan" over it per text tool, rastered it, and made these layers one layer, without giving up the transparent background. Now I could put it into the skin. Perhaps I should make it a branch of my business and offer personal insignia and skins? Lol!
  10. A wonderful aircraft in a very good looking condition! What I like about it's painting, is that they did not use very obvious colours, but rather made a rare combination. Lovely crate.
  11. Playmate of the Month...

Yes, when they are really well made, you should try them plain, with no filling, and only powder sugar on top. Best is to eat them still warm!!! Oh no - my mouth is watering so much now, I must frie me something!

Lake Constance IST der Bodensee?? Warum benennen diese Ausländer immer alles um?
  13. Next OFF Add On Plane unveiled!

Hey, does anyone READ the words? Gremlin is just kidding - he porked it! That's a fake with a Fokker D VIII wing.
  14. It is a Rotmilan (red kite), which I painted in red, orange and deep red. This bird is the only bird of prey I know that begins with an "M" like my family name. And you find it in the area here. I used it since IL 2 as one of my personal insignia on fighters. When we soon will have real personal single skins, I will be the happiest pilot around!!
  15. Fokker Dr.I colour....

Have just found the picture showing two men painting the Fokker Dr.1 wings.
  16. Just made one flight with the Pfalz D IIIa to check what was changed. But I don't know the craft so well. What I liked was the good climb up towards a flight of Strutters; we reached them and brought two down; Albatros D V from two other Jastas finished the others. 1918 the sky is crowded! Our mission was to protect balloons, and although we couldn't save it from the attack of 4 SPAD XIII, we didn't let one of them return home. I realised, that the Pfalz is a good craft for fighting in teams, and I trained my abilities as a commander. When my ammo was out, I had damaged three SPADs so much they rather crawled, and then I ordered my wingmen again and again, which craft to attack first. That way we killed them without a single loss! So low down, the SPAD has no real advantage, except the better speed for running home. Like the SPAD, the Pfalz didn't seem to like a mix of banked turn using elevator, and rudder turn. You better only do the one or the other. But up to a bank of 30 - 40 °, I could turn well using rudder. The dive stability is wonderful, when you come from the Albatros. So, I got 1 Strutter, and me and my 3 wings finished off 4 SPAD XIII. When you look at the map excerpt, you see, this was a busy day in my area.

Welcome, Wolpertinger Did you check your "Workshop" settings? The flight model should be on realistic there; also check some other realism settings there. To get the best possible graphics, go to check the FAQs at www.overflandersfields.co Oh, and please give me your town (Konstanz am Bodensee?), for the OFF Pilots Map. Thanks!
  18. Playmate of the Month...

What a big publicity can do for a product can be seen at the example "Dunkin' Donuts". In my opinion, they are definitely not the best examples for American donuts. But everybody knows them. Anyway - I much prefered the donuts I got on the big American funfair here in Berlin, it was the Octoberfest of the American troops stationed here. Those where not so well known - but so delicious!
  19. Fokker Dr.I colour....

Iti, in good model shops, you will get decal sheets with half Swastikas on. They are not allowed to show the whole ones, so they made half ones, which you can, of course put together to get a complete one. It's ridiculous - they should care for the school kids more, to get them off any Nazi ideas, instead of forbidding a symbol that is definitely much older and was much longer lasting than the Third Reich!
  20. Wow! Winder, this is one major improvement for all of us skinners and personal-skin-users!!! Sorry, but must do a step dance on my table now... Yahoohooooo!!!!
  21. Yes, a Jasta 10 flight; I flew in the presence of: Alois Heldmann, Paul Aue, Erich Loewenhardt, Werner Voss and Adam Barth Great company - you really feel a bit smaller, when you fly with them. Oh, and yellow is the colour of Jasta 10.
  22. Lost kills

My way is dead simple: You press your "select target" key (don't know the default one, see under "controls", mine is put on joystick). In your TAC (which has to be on for this, I'm afraid), you now see the previously red dot of one craft as a yellow. Also you may have a yellow bracket shown at the selected craft (the bracket has to be "on" - see "controls"). If you don't want brackets, switch them off - it still works, as long as you have the TAC on; you must now look for the yellow specs. If there are too many craft around you, you MAY press pause, and click through your enemies, until the desired craft is marked. Of course an immersion killer. If you got a target marked, that you want your wingmen to attack, press the "Attack" command. If you want them to stop and come back, press the "Return" command. If you want them to attack a different target, mark that one, and press "Attack" again. Your wingmen can also be ordered a general "Attack" order, when nothing is marked. Therefor, the enemies have to appear as RED dots - then they are close enough. When you press "Attack" now, your wings will attack a craft of their own choice; probably the nearest. Your direct wingman no. 1 will stay with you, if he can. If you press the "Help" command, he will attack the craft next to you. He can be a great help - but he might also fire at the same craft you are hunting, when it is the closest to you. To make the wingman stay with you, press "Help" right after "Attack" - that should keep him with you. But when there are a lot of enemy fighters, he may get forced away from you. I have put the wingman commands on the joystick base buttons. So I can use them very fast, and often effective. Not always though. When your wingmen are carried away by the fighting, and appear as white specs on the TAC, they will not "see" your commanding signs and carry on doing what they do. Edit/PS: Oh, and don't forget to set the TAC for the right target type! There are "aircraft", "buildings", "vehicles" and "ships". If you want to attack a railyard, you have to switch to "buildings" or "vehicles".
  23. Fokker Dr.I colour....

They where painted differently, as you can find here in the OFF skins. There was a grey-green used by several Jastas, but also the colour the pilot chose. The Jasta 11 D.V (or D.Va ?) had got a red cowling. Others where black. Get yourself the free program "DXTBmp" and browse through the skins. You'll be amazed, how many have been made by OvS, Paarma, Makai and Pol.
  24. Lost kills

Carrick, when you're leader, you must lead! Call them back to you (R = Return), and only assign target you want them to attack. If you give a free attack order without a target marked, they'll attack anything. When I approach two-seaters and want them for myself, I press "Return" several times, and do my attack. When my ammo is out, I mark them a target and press "Attack = A". Then they may have the rest.
