  1. Claim submissions

    I think, the names of your witnesses must be written correct to be identified by the sim. Your Confirmations and rejections should be in the log; there click on: view claims at the bottom. You may not see the whole claims text, but should see a line saying either "Pending" or "Rejected" or "confirmed". Try to add the data you'd find in the "replay" - rounds fired at the opponent (guess), altitude in the moment of a kill, position. Write also all members of the other flight, when they where somewhere near. For ground troops, I write "ground troops near military defense 132" (when that was mentioned in the briefing), or "spotter ground crew". But I don't really know, if these help.
  2. Great report and pics, Waldemar! And yes, put an own emblem on your Roland - makes it even more fun. And you should save the money for TrackIR. You could really look out through the lower windows just by moving your head as you would do in reality. In a great fight against Rhys-Davids and his 56 RFC boys yesterday, I wouldn't have wanted to miss it. The look back over your shoulder is so real, so thrilling!
  3. Very good, Sir! The German name was Seeflieger Norderney, but I just found it's English name too, and so it shall be accepted. The picture is from the nice website http://www.jasta11.co.uk/ Great, that you had another pic, showing a fighter craft I rarely saw in photographs - could be the Siemens-Schuckert D I, which was built after the successful Nieuport 11; so it must be an "old" craft here already. Do you know a site with more info about that Staffel? Cause: they where only 8 kilometers away from where I was born and grew up, but I had never before heard of them, until I found this picture.

One hint: they where not in France nor in Belgium - and they where on an island. Have fun! And please, everybodey: this one is for Lou ONLY, okay?
  5. Had two good f(l)ights today. My "Marineflieger" with MFJ-1 shortened the RFC for 4 FE2b; his comrades for another 3. Early afternoon we had a balloon defense and met the flight of Rhys-Davids from 56 RFC with their brandnew S.E.5a fighters. So new actually, they hadn't got used to them - we shot them all down (sorry, no pics there - was too intensive). After that, I started a campaign with Jasta 9 again, Chery-les-Pouilly, summer 1918. I wanted to check the "new" SPADs, which I used to down so easily. Well, I got one frm Esc.84, east of Guise - but look, what his wingman has done to my "White Bird". They are a lot more dangerous now!

  7. Jim, you MUST be right - it all sounds so great and detailed. I didn't even know which search word to use here. Since I used bracket, clamp, clip, yoke, holder and retainer - I didn't get anywhere near. Well done, Sir!

  9. Hauksbee: So, a Brisfit can be defeated... Oh yes, Sir, I did not say it wasn't possible. And I didn't write this post, cause I needed advice, how to do it. I have in 11 attacks on Bristol fighters shot 5 or 6 of them down. I know, how to do it. What this post was about, is, that they ALWAYS, right at the beginning, damaged the engine. Even when they where left or right of me. That's what I found, at least, peculiar.

    Hey, Condor, good to see you again. When you come from WW2 aviation, the Eindecker is really a big change. Try the 1917 fighters or even 1918, and work your way through all craft backwards. There's no reason to start in 1915. New pilots started at all times. And I have long given up the illusion, I could be like Ernst Udet, and survive it all. You want energy - try the much improved SPAD XIII. An incredible craft, after flying the DIII for a long time, I tell yer. Hope you guys regain the fun in all this.

    Hmm- thank you, Dej. Disorientation - but why the standing prop? Well, he could have switched the engine off, to sail the plane. The craft would have "found it's orientation" without the engine, maybe. I checked some aces at the Aerodrome. So we can see there, that Erich Loewenhardt had 54 victories, but no ace downed, whereas Karl Allmenroeder had 30 victories, but downed aces Alan Scott (Australia) and Gerald Nash (Canada). To compare them all, would lead to a drawn zigzag line of who-shot-whom, it seems.

    Jim Attrill: There is a lot of doubt about Ball, because he just disappeared. So did Guynemer for that matter. Did nobody find the craft and bodies of these two aces until this very day? What a spooky thought... So, they must be in the ground or at the bottom of a lake, or in a swamp, there somewhere, still?
  14. Well, from reading your posts, I must have had just a strain of bad luck. Creaghorn: would be good to see bristols beeingsomewhat aggressive, but still flying like a two seater. They did first, and suffered losses like other 2seats too. But then they where really trained in fighting like scout/fighter pilots would, and the Brisfit was like being made for that. So, I don't think that they are "uber" here. They are just very good. Hauksbee: If the approach is between 10:00 and 2:00, or 11:00 and 1:00, the Brisfit should screen you from the gunner. Forget about that, Hauksbee, they are fighters. Would a fighter pilot let you approach like that? No. He will pull up a little and fire into your approaching crate. If he doesn't hit you, he'll pass you, and the rear gunner will give you some.

OvS: ...we altered and tweaked to the look of the game and the thought of being speculative. ... we can have a little fun and imagination with history as wel... besides... it takes a lot of work to make these planes and skin them... we want you all to enjoy them as well. Absolutely my opinion, OvS. Don't get me wrong; I didn't mean to be the accurate historian. I'd rather want to light the fire of some speculation, where there are not nailed down facts. That's why I posted Dan San's guesses about victories in the E.V - to light the fire! And as for skins: I much prefer to have them look believeable and good, instead of pinning them down on some guessed colour sheme someone made after B&W photographs and Munsel charts, and is selling them for the one and only truth now. You are doing a great job there, as we can see from your pics, and I can hardly await the "delivery" of the brandnew E.V to the front. And if you even supply some Jastas with the D VIII, I'll be grateful and hunt down Widowmaker in his Snipe (which I regard as being announced by your words, sooner or later, - and you couldn't make our man from Newcastle any happier). Great job, OvS!

Here is some info I found in posts at the Aerodrome for the E.V / D VIII First post; about data: The U.S.A.S. report of a D-VIII (code P-165) at McCook field, 20th MAY 1921 states the following: MAX Speed at ground level was 115 mph. At 6,500 ft speed was 113.8 mph. At 10,000 ft speed was 112.3 mph. At 15,000 ft speed was 107.8 mph Rate of climb to 6,500 ft was 5m-3s Rate of climb to 10,000 ft was 8m-55s Rate of climb to 15,000 ft was 16m-40s Rate of climb to 20,000 ft was 34m-40s the above figures were based on the 110 hp Oberursel UR.II Other powerplants used in the D8 were the 110 hp Le-Rhone, 145 hp Oberursel UR.III, 160 hp Goebel Goe. III, 200 hp Goebel Geo. IIIa, 160 & 220 hp Siemens-Halske Sh3, and the 130 hp Spijker-Clerget. All information came from PROFILE PUBLICATIONS - The FOKKER D-VIII #67. And from a post by Dan San Abbott: No Fok.D.VIII was issued to any Jasta in August 1918. Fok.E.V were issued to the Jagdstaffel in August 1918. In my opinion, the following pilots scored victories in Jasta 6 on 8 August 1918: Vzfw Hemer, his 19th; Uffz Reimers, his 1st; Ltn Wenzl, his 6th. On 9 August 1918: Ltn. Wenzel, his 10th; Uffz.Reimers, his 2cd. On 16 August 1918: Ltn. Rolff, his 3rd. On 19 August 1918; Ltn. Matzdorf, his 2cd. That is a total of seven, just in Jasta 6. How about, Jasta 19, 24s, 36, 1 and 8? And one other post: ...the 2 Marine Feld Jasta and the 3 Marine feld Jasta as well the Marine Jagdstaffel Gruppe Führer flew Fok.E.V machines, and they got them early. I would feel quite sure there would be some victories in those Kreigsmarine Jagdstaffeln. Does anyone know more about the Belgian DVIII in the colour photograph?
  17. When is that, Fliegenhund, and where do you fight right now? Bullet, your pic was almost like a great painting with those colours, if there would be still wings on at least one of the craft, and the bubble taken out. God, what kinds of fights do you guys have? Am I missing something?
  18. I see, you have developed your tactics for the Brisfit, Waldemar. But honestly: how often was your engine hit in 10 attacks on a Brisfit? They perform so fast (one must really admire their flying like a lighter scout). that you can hardly outmanoeuver or surprise them. But I'll try your high head-on attack with a slight deflection. Must be the last I haven't tried yet.

It's a great read by a nice chap; he describes his first flights as an observer pilot with his first crash; how he overcame the firing inertia, and then the way through the war at the sides of pilots like von Richthofen Gontermann, Goering; his duel with Guynemer; and so much more, written by of one of the few, who survived all that. If you can't read German - the book was also released in English, but I forgot the title. Can someone help here?

  22. Yes, all good and fine, but I think I wrote clearly, I came from all possible angles. I was even shot at, when my taillplane showed towards the Brisfit, but: Engine hit. Always.

    Sounds like the right book for Bullethead. I don't like the idea of bombing England - it's a lovely nice country. The people may be a bit strange but they're okay, when they've had a few.
  25. I can't say I've always had my engine damaged when attacking Brisfits... Oh, good to hear that - so there is hope, that one day.... And yes, I had set it to "less accurate" already.
