...like guiding the artillery with red, green and white flares? Yes, would be a great addition, but since the basic CFS3 is a flight sim, I don't know, if the artillery could be made to react to your signals.

It's Time To Play,"What's My Plane" !
Olham replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Okay, the last pic 24 is the control handle of an early Fokker, with the fire buttons; I'd say the Eindecker. Here's Wikipeadia about the craft: The Fokker E.III was the main variant of the Eindecker (monoplane) fighter aircraft of World War I. It entered service on the Western Front in December 1915 and was also supplied to Austria-Hungary and Turkey. Design and development The E.III was basically an E.II fitted with larger, newly designed larger wings, that had a slightly narrower 1.80 meter (70-7/8 in) chord, slightly less than the 1.88 meter (74 in) chord dimension on the earlier Eindeckers, going back to Fokker's original M.5 monoplane aircraft. The E.III retained the same 75 kW (100 hp) Oberursel U.I engine, but had a larger 81 l (21.5 gal) drum-shaped main fuel tank just behind the cockpit, which increased the Eindecker's endurance to about 2½ hours; an hour more than the E.II. Most E.IIIs were armed with a single 7.92 mm (.312 in) Spandau LMG 08 machine gun with 500 rounds of ammunition; however, after the failure of the twin-gun Fokker E.IV as a viable successor, some E.IIIs were fitted with twin guns. Fokker production figures state that 249 E.IIIs were manufactured however a number of the 49 E.IIs were upgraded to E.III standard when they were returned to Fokker's Schwerin factory for repairs. Operational history The E.III was the first type to arrive in sufficient numbers to form small specialist fighter units, Kampfeinsitzer Kommandos (KEK) in early 1916 - previously, Eindeckers were allocated singly, just as the E.I and E.II had been, to the front-line Feldflieger Abteilungen that carried out reconnaissance duties. On 10 August 1916, the first German Jagdstaffeln (single-seat fighter squadrons) were formed, initially equipped with various early fighter types, including a few E.IIIs, which were by then out- moded and being replaced by more modern fighters. Standardisation in the Jagdstaffeln (and any real success) had to wait for the availability in numbers of the Albatros D.I and Albatros D.II in early 1917. Turkish E.IIIs were based at Beersheba in Palestine while others operated in Mesopotamia during the Siege of Kut-al-Amara. At last I attach a photo of an Eindecker cockpit, and a link to the page about the handle. http://www.aeroconservancy.com/german%20page.htm -
Thanks for the info. So they even had voice com in the later war? Was it too large for a fighter craft, that they didn't use it? Or did even fighters have it in the end?

Immersion? You've got to be kidding!

They do indeed scream sometimes - the Pup pilot yesterday did. Makes you goose skin, doesn't it? -

Great looks! Makes me hope for my new rig to be complete soon - with a HD4870 (2 GB) I should be able to get that quality. -

Touched! As if Voss was sitting in front of me, by a piano, in a black&white memory. (Goose skin) -

Indeed! Good description for "immersion" here. -
Thanks for the info, Rickity - I always thought, that was only WW2 technology.

Frustrating problem with claims in last flight

...and I was'nt in the skies over Flanders! But I can't be everywhere... -
Your message to them should better read: don't cross streets together, especially not, when a bus comes! :ouch: But hey - are you trying to lure them into settling down in the old age? You should better get some window cleaner's job in Johannesburg and try to find the office of Winder and OBD. You may be able to spy out the latest aircraft!

Oh no - now comes all that "Pol is dead" stuff again.
-
Yes, will do, when I'm ready, Widowmaker. The worst thing on an Albatros is to make the back pattern meet the fuselage sides patterns. The back seems to be perspectively distorted, as Dej said. Could be true - it's nasty. I have put more pics into "Reports from the front" - another paintjob with the crest and motto of my native homeland Ostfriesland. The motto is: "Eala frya Fresena" which means something like "Stand tall, free Friesen". The word "eala" is Old Friesisch - it must exist in Old English too.

Frustrating problem with claims in last flight
Olham replied to Fliegenhund's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Did the replay state exactly "Leutnant Fliegenhund shot down an Albatros DIII" in all cases? Cause when a victim goes down, and someone else fires only some rounds into that craft, it may become HIS victory. Where your wings still with you at the later kills? Cause when they are dead or downed or far away, they can't witness; and that will mean for those claims: erroneus! -

Hansa-Brandenbergs...and others
Olham replied to Hauksbee's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Great to see them again - and a pity they can't get into BHaH. Also great: the Richtofen - Hawker fight! If you'd also put them into "Screenshots", they would not be lost after a while. Thanks for sharing! -
Stump: YES (Wels told me to say that, without knowing, what - Lol!) Bullethead, please DO make an Albatros too. A DV would be great, perhaps for Seefrosta?
-
Stumpjumper, what do you mean with W4 Albi AI?
-
Here is an example of my investigation of the colours. I did Photoshop auto-adjust, I tried various contrasts and brightness adjust, but one ends up still with guesswork, of course; especially on the brightness.
-
Bullethead: The coolest thing, however, was that the Germans invented aradio-controlled explosive motorboat. This was steered by an airplaneand actually succeeded in hitting one of the monitors. Amazing. Radio controlled? No joke? In WW1? Yes, technology is our playground...

Ari, what I meant was the first line, where you normally write your team members in. If you don't have any, try "ground troops military defense 427" for example - the "mil.def." is one of the locations which are mentioned in briefing; could also be "observation balloon at balloon base 623". But chances to get that confirmed seem to be small. Still though - there must be a reason why you get the form; so you could try. I often don't get a form, even when I started with wingmen, but lost them, before I shot down a craft. You will also find, that some claims remain unconfirmed or get refused. That's how it was. If you want it easier, you can always follow UncleAl's advice.

Welcome, Aristoteles! You seem to have realilsed very quick, that you got the greatest WW1 sim with BHaH. Butwell - with THAT name... Would you please send me a PM with your hometown and country? I would like to add you to our OFF Pilots Map. Thanks! If you get a claims form after the mission, you can try to get it through. Fill in ground troops, ground crew or whatsoever. If you don't get one, you can forget about it. Lone Wolfs never had anyone to witness; no witness - no confirm. If you want, you can pass that Lone Wolf mission by clicking "advance time" in the first briefing window.

Widowmaker, you missed one little hint by OvS I think it was. He said more or less: ...and when we make a DVIII, we must give the crumpets a Snipe. (Well, maybe he didn't say "crumpets" in this special case - but he could have! Lol!)
