Update 08/17/09 01:28 Berlin time Hemorad, Iowa, added. The maps are in post 1 of this thread

Wow, Paarma, we could have had a few together, when I was still drinking wine. Thanks for the honour, Herr Prop-Wasche, but I'm not a gourmet, I don't know anything about the 'finesse' with wines. And I don't know the German wines, sorry. I don't even drink any alcohol anymore, but when I did, more than five years ago, I prefered the white wine Hunter's Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, and the red wine Meerendal Pinotage from South Africa. Also Australian blends of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. All these rather rich and not fine enough for the "connaisseurs" - but very tasty for me. Don't ask me, if I miss them...

Gentlemen, let's bring out a toast to RexHannover

After reading and experiencing how much seems to have been improved again (fighting Fees for example), I found we should bring out a toast to a devel, who hasn't been named here so often; who quietly "tweaked" software codes in the background - a toast to RexHannover! He must be responsible for much of the improvements towards a more realistic WW1 air combat sim. Thank you for your good work, Rex! -
Looks terrifying! Must read this whole thread now, to understand, what they exactly are.

Herr Prop-Wasche, there are planes, which don't fit tremors (Dr.1, SPAD), and others, that lay rather solid, like the Albatros. Just try the right plane?
-
Thanks, all, but OvS has only limited space for stickies, and as long as new people join us, it wouls come to front anyway. Later, we will see what to do with the maps.

I had to talk to somebody about it.

I know very well, what you felt, Mr.Lucky. I had a similar experience posted in "Peports from the front". Perhaps you want to read it. http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?s=&am...st&p=308042 -
For me there are enough. I'm on "normal" (middle). Never had a pilot eliminated since god-knows-how-long (three knocks on wood). I wonder, if there maybe computers doing the processes different for other players? Cause some seem to suffer more. UncleAl's early advice to me, when I was a rookie: never fly straight for longer than some seconds! Useful advice!

Well, the AI is so great now! I just watched my other Albatros fighting Tripes (had no ammo to help), and they where really chasing them all over the place! And - what's "bumps" ? -

Still haven't found out, how to get better anti-aliasing. When I set it in the sim's graphic setup, it seems to get lost again. I've chosen it in my ATI card's config, but it doesn't look as good as your pics, Lou. Well anyway - here's from my latest fight with MFJ 1, against RNAS-1. -
Here's the craft from the Shuttleworth Collction in flight. But sorry - Balkenkreuz.

Today, I downloaded and installed TrackIR 5, and it's really going smooth! Also I installed the "HPWFP Damage Model Variety Pack", using the "JoneSoft Generic Mod Enabler". All went really easy, and I started my second mission with MFJ 1. My god, this was just phantastic! It is difficult to make out so quickly, what all changed, but there must be a change in AI behaviour. They fought better and fiercer, I found. The new Flak assigned to me there was an enemy flight, and when I climbed into the sun to reach flight 1, they where already tangling. My, what a fight - I wish I had it on film! But here are some pics instead. Thanks once again to the Dev Team - what a great sim you have created! And thanks to Her Prop-Wasche and Fortiesboy for their alternative damage model, which is great visual fun (well, not for them Pups from RNAS-9!). Hasse Wind, that was a first revenge for your long-time pilot's captivity! Can't wait 'till tomorrow! PS: the skin is another new test version for MFJ 1.

Jasta 36 - another one I haven't flown in yet. Where are they? What are their colours?
-
Herr Prop-Wasche (I will never get used to that name - do you mean Propellerwäsche, or how did you get this name?), Where do you fly and what craft? Perhaps you should start a pilot in an easier, more defensive region and squadron. In a defensive squad., I would click "advance time", whenever I had to cross the lines. That way you could fight over own grounds, to grow some hours and last longer?

For all who find it too hard between heaven and hell

All, who only knew Phase 2 so far, and many of those who remember it as having lots of fun, may read these thoughts. It must be clear by now, that the OBD Team wanted to create a SIMULATION of the air combat in world war one. And I find, they achieved that to an incredibly great extent. Now, a simulation of air combat of those days MUST be hard. If you want to simulate that success- fully, the life expectancy of the average pilot WILL be around 17 hours. Because it was in those days. I have just made an escort for a recon flight of 4 DFW, at the front near Aertrycke. We had to stay 17 minutes, and they appeared nervewrecking long! While I was constantly checking (I fly without TAC, Labels etc.), my nervousness grew - where are they? Someone will jump on us from out of the sun. Or sneak up to us from the ground. Or come from our side, from behind? Constant artillery fire, plus occasional Flak, when we got too close to the front line, hammered onto my consciousness. After 17 minutes, we flew back. Nothing had happened, but I felt, as if it had. This must be as close as you can get right now, when you want to experience that war; I don't know any other sim, that will get you into it to such an extent. Very well done, OBD, I'm stunned. But now to my ideas and tips for newbies, or those who come back from a hard day's work, or just want to fly for some fun and maybe victories, but not for stress: Create for that one or several pilots to have some fun. Don't feel ashamed to use all the tools and stuff to make it that way, with these pilots. Use TAC, Labels, Targetting Cone, Pause, outside views - whatever. Don't regard the realism number in Workshop. Tune the sounds that way, that they don't annoy you. Click on "Time advance" or "Optional flight", when the mission type doesn't suit you, or when the way is just too long. Use "Start in the air", use "Warp". Do everything it needs to make it a "fun flight". Fully aware, that this is not a realistic WW1 air combat flight. And when you want it the hard, realistic, almost true way - you know what to switch on and click off. You have other pilots enlisted for that. With those you will challenge it again; make the experience, that you might not be an Ernst Udet, who survived throughout the whole war; and who was the exception - not the rule. -

HPWFB Damage Model Variety Pack Now Available!

Herr Prop-Wasche, Fortiesboy: when I use JSGME, and want to try the BHaH original damage model, would it then be enough to move the "aircraft" from the right window back to the left again? Just want to try both to compare them. -

Started My First DiD Mission Flying For Germany
Olham replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Wow, Lou - impressive flying with the Eindecker! You show, it can turn fight! And whenever this campaign should be ended, don't stop there. The Albatros DII, when it was new, was a very good fighter with a lot of firepower to fold the Nupes. Then the DIII, when it was new, was a very good mix of energy and turn tactics; great fun to fly! And after a while, you will find, that we don't only eat Bratwurst with Sauerkraut. You may get roasted duck with Rotkohl and Knödel, or Rouladen with Erbsen and Möhren and Kartoffelpürree, or a well done Goulasch - and when you don't like beer too much, we also have excellent wines. But I know the feeling. I fly two British campaigns, but only occasionally, and it still feels foraign somehow. Must be in the mind; hope it wears off. I wish you much success and great fun! -
About the TrackIR 5 install: I tried to adjust things now in the great setup screen with headmoves etc., and realised, that all text and numbers in the windows where unreadable - no type, but rather mad stripes. Does anyone know, if I should have to deinstall TrackIR 4 first? In the sim, the general moves are smoother, but I think, when slight stutters appeared, they where worse than with the 4. So give me some more testing time. Hasse Wind - it's a pity you haven't tried the wonderful Albatros DIII now anymore. I have so far avoided to fly the DVII, cause that's really something else, and I don't want to get spoiled for the older crates. Same for the Dr.1 - it's just incredible. I will fly those crates, when I have flown all Albs enough.

A new attitude may be necessary when flying a SPAD campaign. As Sir Mike said, she's more like an old Indian motorbike than a light bicycle. I tried two QC flights now, where I really boomed and zoomed - I attacked the best positioned DVa, plastered it with only little turn, and zoomed out; sometimes steep diving and pulling up again, or only just pulling up - depends on who's around you. That way I shot several severe bursts into some craft, but without knowing, if I had hit the same craft, or even downed one. But that's the way to survive a battle. In a campaign, you can only try then to hit the right number in a claims report. You think, perhaps I got three, so you fill in three. Erroneus? Okay, try two. Still erroneus? One then. Accepted. Fine. I will try to follow this way with my new SPAD campaign, cause my general "I want to down this craft!" attitude would be suicide, I think.
