Have just checked the trench maps, and those from 1918 show the field at the right, that's true, Dej. I tried to find maps from 1917 (Jasta 12 moved to Roucourt on July 28th, 1917), but couldn't. It must be assumed, the field was always at the right side of the forrest, until a proof is found, that it had earlier been on the left. Strange, that Schobinger should have got that wrong - pilots are usually very good with maps.

Carrick, wait until you learn to know the Albatros better. Today my flight of 6 Albatros DIII (early) where engaged by a flight of 6 Spad VII and one Nieuport 17. While everyone went down for the deck very soon, I remained high up with the Nupe, turned it out and shot it down. Then I went lower and fought the Spads. After killing two of them, there was no wingman left my side; I was alone with 3 Spads (my wings must have killed one at least). Now it was extremely tight turning, and I can do that better than any Spad. Problem was: high up I saw 6 - 8 specs, that soon turned into more Nupes! I remained cool and shot down two of the Spads, before my ammo was out. Now I collected my first hit from above, and it was more than time to run. I was right behind the lines on our side, and I did my hedgehopping again, following roads or brooks through the trees, slamming rudder left and right, always in danger to touch ground hard with my wheels. Behind me very close: the Spad, like a hawk. Further behind: 6 Nupes. But I reached my airfield and went over to "tent and hangar hopping", until the Spad crashed. Great! Now I did an approach to the field with full rudder, sailing sidewards toward the hangar, adjusted in the very last moment and touched down. I almost rolled inside. Safe! The Albs are doing pretty well against all fighters - when boom & zoom is out, move to turning. She can do that well, as long as you keep the nose below the horizon.

Yup, Condor - when things turn that bad, a reset of CFS3 can help. All pilots will be lost, but after that it may be way more fun!
-
You're right guys, Pol said recently, when you make a model, you also have to do the varieties of damages.
-
Bullet, I wonder, if you ever flew the Brisfit? With that craft, you CAN fight!
-
Yes, UncleAl - and in the best of all cases, it's all three together!! Lol!
-
Bullethead: If I'm over enemy territory, I fight to the death. The Huns will NEVER take me alive!!! Bullet, you don't know what you're missing. Firstly, there are no HUNS on the other side - at least I have never seen any. We are a bunch of nice chaps who like to sit together over a good cold German beer or twelve. Also, we much prefer to bring down our opponents alive (read "Das Kriegstagebuch der Jasta 12" - they did it a lot), so we can talk about the fight, King and Kaiser, women, and our crates. Dej, that's clever - pretend to have ammo still. Seems the AI don't know? Will use that! Lou, I never knew the Einis where so good? Makes me appetite to start my first French campaign in a Nupe, to fight them. But they may be hard to hit - so flat and small?

Yesterday, I got a message saying, the server could not be found or connected to. I had this message from morning to midnight - no forum. Did anyone else have the same to happen?
-
You are well off, Hauk, as the Germans only attack bombers.
-
Hauksbee, with a new rig (hopefully this year) I could and would make FRAPS movies, but my old system is just running fine between 25 - 35 frps, as long as I don't start FRAPS. That makes the frps shrink to stutters. Zoomzoom, good idea with the rudder. Simple but should be effective. Never tried that. My method won't work always though - what can you do, when there is no such forrest?
-
All the good luck you need, Captain! Stay aloft!
-
Yes, good idea, Gremlin, we should meet in your Wings of Honour forum, when there is a "blackout" again. I would be a guest there more often, but find, I'm already pretty occupied with this one forum.

Update 08/06/09 13:12 Berlin time Dutch_P47M, Netherlands, added. The maps are in post #1 of this thread

Hahaha!!! This is nice: to catch you having missed something, UncleAl! We had patches 1.30, 1.30c and now 1.30L minipatch since April (Lol!)

Mods to be flown? Where are they? Ach, why should I care - I have a long time relationship with one good lady; why should I break in another?

Today I had one of those flights, where you get it all right. Although fighting over enemy terrain, I could down five Pups, without collecting a single bullet. Here is the full claims report as copied from the Log. 4/;5/;1917 ;7h;50 ;Flanders ;Wasquehal ; Balloon Busting ; Flying: Albatros DIII early. On this day claims: ;5 ;Sopwith Pup . ; On our balloon busting mission, we encountered a flight of Sopwith Pup from RNAS-9 northeast of Ypres. They engaged flight 1, and I attacked them. I hit one craft with about 100 rounds. It crashed at 08:11 h near Balloon base 678. I destroyed the balloon and turned round to get out quick. But we saw a group of Pups fighting German two-seaters. I would not let them alone and attacked them. I fought the British ace Edmund 'Ed' Pierce; I shot him down and he crashed at 08:21 h, NE of Ypres. Now I got engaged by British ace Harold F Stackard. In the following fight, I hit him fatally; he crashed at 08:22 h NE of Ypres. Next I drove ace Fred Everest Banbury off the tail of my wingman; he crashed at 08:23 h near balloon base 678, NE of Ypres. Short of ammunition, I tried to return home, but found two more Pups ahead of me. One of them was already damaged and descended. I engaged the other and shot all my last rounds into the craft; it crashed at 08:26 h, NE of Ypres.. Witnessed by: Adam Barth, Paul Aue, Otto Hartmann, Max-Burkart Steiner, Edgar Nitzsche, Julius Schlag, Theodor von Marchlewitz Status : Pending ;68 I had first forgotten the balloon, and when I tried to add it later, the option wasn't there. But who cares - it was a wonderful flight !

Yes, Rickity and Hasse, I don't really fear that. They may suggest it, but you only have to insist, you want to fight with your comrades until the very end, and they will let you, cause there is a shortage of good pilots. MvR managed to fly on, so I will, too. Right into the coffin with a big Hooray!!
-
Creaghorn, I could hugg you for this fine statement! Stary, not only the German Flak is nasty - I have also lost two good pilots through AA fire. The Pup is a fine craft for flying, superb climb, very nimble! Only a bit fragile for fighting. When I fight them, a good burst right into the center, and it literally falls apart. I like to just fly around in it - beautiful like a butterfly. And as fragile...

Only now I found more time to see through all the information you contributed, JFM, thanks for that. Great pictures! When I came to the Aerodrome links, I found, that I seemed to have "knocked the beehive". You even have debated this with Dan San Abbott? Yours and others reconstruction about the Jasta 11 pics appears clear to me, and the fact you have been there, and seen the placements of former hangars. Great stuff! I want to visit the location next year. Now, seeing you have done so much research, I still have a question about Jasta 12. Is it documented anywhere, that they had the absolutely same location as Jasta 11? Because, it makes me wonder why Victor Schobinger should remember it so wrong? And also, why there is clearly no more forrest behind the two lines of trees, which look only just like an alleyway. But on the other hand you are right: the buildings would have been right on the street, which would be pretty strange.

Condor, the blue and red lines should be among the three options in the overrides, top right side. They should NOT be disabled. Also, you may try these commands in sim: - Status message (Toggle): Shift + B - Kill labels (Toggle): Ctrl. + Shift + / I am mostly flying the DIII, but also DVa and DII, and I saw multiple variations of damage (holes in upper and lower wings, shots through radiator, shot up tailplane, broken off wingtips, fabric missing showing framework etc.)

In the start window of "BHaH", click on "workshop", there on "Graphics config" button, then on "file", "custom settings" (ignore warning) > "window" > "overrides" and "texture info". Also there: "change display options" - here you choose the highest resolution, your monitor can do. Also near there: Set player FOV button (below left of Graphics button). FOV = Field of view That is recommended, I believe, at 23 x 19. I have mine (for my 4:3 monitor) on 25 x 20 - works fine for me.

Yes, the Halberstadt is a good climber and a stable gun platform. I could turn with Nupes in her and shoot them down. Must do another Campaign in one. Thanks for the reminder, Dutch!

I'm not an expert on this; I can only tell you MY settings, as they work for me (wonderfully!): Try these clicks in "Parameter Editor for Overrides": + Disable Vertex Buffers + Disable Index Buffers + Disable Write-Only Vertex Buffers + Disable Write-Only Index Buffers Try these in Parameter Editor for Texture Info Put "Composite Terrain Texture Pool" on "managed". Put "Composite Aircraft Texture Pool" on "managed". Put "Vertex buffer Pool" on "managed". I hope mostly, that the line "Composite Aircraft Texture Pool" being set to "managed" would do the trick. And again for all with that problem: first make sure, that you have set the Aircraft skin resolution IN WORKSHOP on "normal res." (see my previous screenshot of "Workshop").

Zoomzoom: Oh, and did I mention I was in an Albatros, simply the BEST plane in History. That might have made a difference too. Now, that explains a lot! Of course that makes a difference! She is just the nicest little lady you could fly!

Almost right, Rugbyfan, I'm sure they would understand what you mean. (Ein grosses Bier, bitte!)
