  1. battle damage to aircraft

To make this clear: you CAN put the slider of aircraft on 5. What you should NOT click is aircraft skins high-res. in WORKSHOP.
  2. battle damage to aircraft

It must be something else - I fly with aircraft detail on full five. One thing comes to my mind - it was always recommended to fly the sim in HIGHEST possible resolution. That won't make it slower, but faster instead (don't ask me why).
  3. Thanks, Dej, but OFF is just too good, as that this could ever happen. And asthonishing too - that I still hadn't discovered all, means there is depth.
  4. battle damage to aircraft

I have seen lots of holes ripped in the fabric, and even the skeletton frames of the wings. But there seem to be some few people, who don't see damage (due to theri vid card?). I hope for you, they will answer and maybe even have remedies.
  5. OFF Forum Pilots Maps

Update 08/03/09 Luftace, Tennessee, added nesop, Pennsylvania, added. The maps are in post #1 of this thread - you enlarge them by clicking on them.
  6. OFF Forum Pilots Maps

Thanks for that link, Jim, didn't know that. Maybe I can do some "propaganda" for our sim there!
  7. Love the Tripe

SvK, the majority would only name MvR as a WW1 ace and not know anyone else. But yes, Ernst Udet is still known as a very good stunt flyer and later officer in the Third Reich - not so much for his time as a WW1 pilot, I believe. Then there are Immelmann and Boelke, who would be known by some people. Not many more beyond that. You'd hardly find anyone to know Erich Loewenhardt. Yes, I believe, the Dr.1 is only known so well, because it was Richthofen's last plane. Maybe, in those days they had lots of Picture cards with MvR posing with the Dr.1. Hasse Wind - you brought up an idea there: a Pfalz DIIIa campaign in a region, where there's mainly SPAD XIII - that should be possible!
  8. Creaghorn - a poll can have only 5 questions. And: the altitude IS IN THERE - please read.
  9. Was that another hint on things to come, Winder? Well, anyway - I wonder, how stupid I sometimes can be. Not to realise that flights 1 and 2 should mostly fly together. But, in hindsight, I also see, that I did a damn good job with only half a crew (Lol!). Now it IS great fun again!
  10. Sorry, Bullet - didn't know you fly fighters occasionally. Must have missed all reports about such missions. But maybe you're not the great fighter ace, eyh? (Lol!) Creaghorn, I had made a HUGE mistake - I have always flown with my B-flight alone, cause I believed, that A-flight had different mission tasks. Read my last post in "Something should be changed".
  11. Okay, I had two flights together with A-flight, and that was a different story! My, did we clobber the Tripes of RNAS-1 ! (see Claims report below). How could I have been so wrong since February? I have done all my fights with just B-flight (4-5 wings), against 9 - 12 opponents, often more. But you're wrong about the eyesight there, Dej - I spotted 9 Tripes at our 9 o'clock, about three miles away, and another three Tripes ahead and above, about two miles away - before A-flight would show any reaction. Well, here's the report: 3/;5/;1917 ;7h;21 ;Flanders ;Wasquehal Patrol Enemy Front Lines ; Flying: Albatros DIII early. On this day claims: ;2 ;Sopwith Tripe. On our way to patrol enemy front lines, we where engaged by three flights of Triplanes, some from RNAS-1, at an altitude of 9900 feet. I first cleared the six of Alois Heldmann by firing at the Tripe chasing him. Then I climbed to help Erich Loewenhardt with two Triplanes. I hit one craft with about 200 rounds, it crashed at 07:08 over the front lines. By now, more Triplanes had joined, and I recognised the red craft of Richard Minifie and the dark craft of Roderick Dallas. Erich Loewenhardt and Paul Aue had a desperate fight low above a wood. I entered the furball with only Otto Hartmann with me. I attacked Roderick Dallas and shot several bursts into his craft; it crashed at 07:13 h E of Ypres. After that, I found myself alone and tried to escape 5 Triplanes by zooming through the trees. But my craft got hit several times, and I had to make an emergency landing near the front line east of Ypres. Witnessed by: Otto Hartmann, Max-Burkart Steiner, Edgar Nitzsche, Alexander Zeuch, Carl Brandwurzel, Erich Loewenhardt, Paul Aue, Alois Heldmann, Adam Barth Status : Pending ;72
  12. "Fee falling" (after Olham hit her). "Zigzag zooming over Tripe" (my newest skin).
  13. Bullet, sorry, but as a two-seater chap, you shouldn't vote in the poll.
  14. Steve, you might do it the "unofficial" way. In your games folder, you could go to "campaigns" > "canmpaign data" > "pilots" There you find 3 files for each pilot. You could look into them to see what the log is (I think it's even called "pilot log"); and then add a text for each flight. Not sure if it works - best you try it with a "Test Pilot". And careful - the pilot number must not be identical with the number under the photo or down in the pilot number slot; cause you may have "retired" someone amidst them, and so all gets changed. You can identify them by looking into the claims file.
  15. Winder: Olham thanks looks good but date is exceedingly important I had only 5 questions, so I couldn't do the dates. But still tough, we should get a kind of overview. Winder: OFF is not about the player winning the war - it will never happen that way. No, certainly not - and I would never like it, if it was. Winder: In a nutshell self preservation is the key. Hmm?? But I'm not nuts (I hope - Lol!). Now, I'm quite aware, that my way of fighting this war, is surely not made for lasting very long; I'm the "Anti-Creaghorn" so to say. It would just be nice to meet the green and brown planes in lesser numbers or at lower altitude - just sometimes.
  16. Tweaking the TAC

Yup, that was Uncle's idea, and a good one. Drag the compass that way, that it's center is the center of the TAC. That also helps to find, which direction everyone is.
  17. Okay, okay! Just thought about the question: do you others all fly with the other flight together? Cause, I rarely do that. I thought, they have a different flight path anyway. But if I'm wrong there, it may be no wonder I find my flights outnumbered?
  18. Dej: ...whenever we gatecrash someone else's party we seem always to outnumber the Hun, even if some other blighters turn up, some more Brits will arrive very shortly afterwards. Maybe that's what happens to me all the time. It maybe, because I always approach other distant flights, searching the fights. I will try another pilot behaving different.
  19. Yes, I want to make a clear statement here too: I don't think it is like UncleAl says. And I believe you, Winder, alone because you all are so much into getting it right. (And cause I have OvS to watch it... Lol!)
  20. Dej: I definitely advocate 'running away' as a tactic, Olham... it's approved by Richthofen and Boelcke... you should try it Boelke and Richthofen may have done so - Olham: never! I always fight to the last man (me). (Shows, I'm just not as good as them - Lol!) I have even witnessed that. I had spotted a bunch of Tripes on our patrol, high up in a cloud. On the way back, we had to pass them again. I tried to catch up with MvR's flight to help him, but the great ace decided to dive away from them as fast as possible. They didn't follow, and we were all saved by his attitude. Me, I am just too impatient for that behaviour, still trying to win the war single-handed.
  21. Love the Tripe

Hasse Wind: Isn't OFF just great! yes.gif Absolutely, Hasse Wind - so much still to explore for me too. About the DII: you got me thinking about trying that craft even in early 1917, as her diving ability is really better. About the DVa: I had my greatest success in her, from Vauxcerre, June 1918. Opponents there where almost only SPAD XIII. You can have them for breakfast, lunch and supper (Lol!) - she was doing fine.
  22. Well, Homeboy, this is rare for me as I don't usually listen to music while doing something else, but rather with some concentration on the music: Matt's OFF Music still sounds fresh after hearing it so many times. It fits very well, and doesn't have 'false' moments in it - it became part of the whole great feeling "Between Heaven and Hell" generates in me. Thanks again, Matt!
  23. A Little Oddity

Yes, some time ago I passed over a German airfield low, cause I was hit and thought about landing there. I dropped the thought, cause some 5 or 6 Pfalz came in for landing. when I looked back, they seemed to get it done, all rolling in a line.
  24. Check Six - you can't write a log like a diary of flights. All you can write is the claims form. That will be shown, when you click on "view claims" at the bottom of the log.
  25. I understand your thought, Dej, but on the other hand, you might want to meet MvR, and you could. I like that as it is - rather historical.
