Well, Schnitzel von Krumm, falling in love is impossible to explain. So everyone may have a different "love" around here, and there are pilots (Dej for example), who really love the Tripe. My love goes to the Albatros DIII and DV versions. A robust craft, with the ultimate beauty of shapes and linings. You see, tastes are often different. Several times in the past I have seen someone "loving" one crate, and then comparing it to a similar enemy craft to make that one down a bit. Although i have only flown these craft in simulations, I am pretty sure, that the Fokker Dr.1 was not much of a copy of the Tripe. It's true, the Tripe brought up the idea of three wings. But apart from that, the Fokker is built pretty different. It has a much shorter wingspan, what makes the craft extremely agile. The wings with the thick Goettingen airfoil must have made a good climb rate and where very stabile after they had been re-done through Fokker. The Dr.1 is very different to all the craft here. It is an 'instabile' aircraft. It had no fin; only rudder. The craft reacts immediately to all your stick movements - to the good and bad. You can perform combat manoeuvers, the other craft could not copy. It flies almost against all common behaviour. Shooting has to be learnt again on that craft; it feels extremely 'nervous'. But in the hands of a skilled pilot this craft is almost unbeatable in a turn fight. One should not compare the Tripe with the Dr.1 - when the Fokker came up, the days of the Tripe where already gone.

Thanks for the detailed answer, Winder (and all others). Seems, I have that problem alone. It happens always, when I fly north of Cambrai. The further north i am, I meet more British than French flights, which should be correct. But those British flights ALWAYS outnumber mine. I did all recent campaigns in May 1917, and I come across hordes of Tripes, Pups or S.E.5a. They are not one big flight, no, but when the firtst flight I spott is more or less our size, there will be more flights joining in very soon, until we are outnumbered 1:3 Now, my neighbour just told me, that he had two flights from Wasquehal (where I am too with Jasta 10 and Jasta 28w), where the British flights were less craft, and very low. So I wonder, why I don't experience that? Chain of bad luck?

Hitler Parody: Over Flanders Fields
Olham replied to Launchbury's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yup, ditto. But that was not "his" Captain - that was the Captain, who was sent out to save him, and who lost his life for him. I found that scene made the drama more intense, cause all the time until the end, I thought, the old man was Tom Hanks - the Captain - after all those years. That way, I believed throughout the whole film, that the Captain would survive. And was quite double shocked, when he was hit fatally. -
That's great about that German corner in your "Wings of Honour", Gremlin. I had thought about a German Thread here, and maybe a French. You and Creaghorn and I could have introduced the non-English-speaking Germans. But I think, for the devs it would have been too far beyond any control. I read, that all websites have a "Quelltext" (don't know the English word - source text?), in which you should place all words related to your subject, so the search machines like Google would always find you. If you placed German and French words for biplanes etc. in there, it might help.

Creaghorn, thanks for the job on the names. And - I must agree with OvS, keep the first baseball pic for avatar. If you want to make a slideshow about your baseball team, please do that in an OT post - and I promise, I'll see all pics through (although I don't know much about that sport).

Hitler Parody: Over Flanders Fields
Olham replied to Launchbury's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Those who say, SPR was cack, are either lacking a lot of imaginative phantasy, and maybe sensibility, or they just keep themselves out of all emotional reach, maybe to protect themselves. When I see a scene, where one fighting bastard talks convincingly to the other to let the knife in to his chest, to just give up and have peace quickly; and short after that the knife man comes down the stairs, passing the guy, who can't shoot, who is absolutely paralised by what happens (and I know from our old neighnours tales from Stalingrad, that this and many other unbelieveable, irritatingly strange behaviours happenend) - when you call that cack, then maybe you just want to protect yourself. Which may even be alright. But such attitude was, what made it so impossible for so many soldiers to ever return home. They where physically there, stood in the rose gardens behind freshly painted white fences - and coul still not return... -
British_eh, I hope I'm not the only one who didn't try additional missions yet. So, for all the ones new to that: how do I get the missions; and how do these missions get integrated in BHaH; how do I start them?

Good you have learnt a leathery kind of humour, Bullethead. That was close! So OT1H, we were stone sober when we had to give statements to the cops. But OTOH, if we HAD stopped for a drink, we wouldn't have been at that place and time to nearly get killed. So it just goes to show, once again, that in this life you're just screwed no matter what you do This, I just see the other way round - in both cases you did (or would have done) the right thing.

Bub - if you are into WW2 air combat sims, and you can get it for 10 Dollars, you can't do a thing wrong.

Update 08/02/09 14:00 The maps are in post #1 of this thread hoongadoonga, Missouri, added. Revthought, California, added. You are right, it should and hopefully will be placed somewhere, but OvS has only a limited space for "stickies". Maybe we put it into one of them later. As long as the updates go/more people join, it will appear again regularly.

In the German ZDF program's evening main news, they have just reported about unexploded ammunition, that still "surfaces" on fields and acres at the former Ypres front bend. The Belgian army drives around in vans, to collect the granades from farmers, who sometimes just pile the ammo by the street. Many of those granades still contain the highly dangerous "Senfgas". The army cannot catch up with destroying these old weapons - they have hangars full of that stuff, only losely guarded! (I hope Al quaida didn't watch this!) More than 90 years later, they still bring in 300 tons of such unexploded weapons! In the Ypres front bend alone, more than 500.000 men lost their lives.

What's a"quirk"? A Fee is an FE2b, I suppose? And a "quirk"?

Some people have hardware, that may still be good for the use with our sim, but they got newer stuff and don't need it anymore. So I thought, we could have a Market Square here, where things could be presented or searched for. The simple rules: 1. You present a part, that you want to give away, with some detailed info. 2. You search for a part you need better, and describe the desired min. and max. layouts 3. Whether you search for, or offer a part - you don't post prices here. Everything beyond a general posting about the part, especially prices or even price ideas, will be always and only done via PM. Of course it would also be great, if people wrote in things they'd give away for free. What do you think about this idea?

Thewoo, when you set max fraps to 35 or even 30, you get a smoother framerate. It seems that the system is not so stressed then producing much higher fraps, and it equals out better. It worked for me. I have an ATI X1900 vid card, and the sim is running fine.

Yes, that would become a great movie, I'm sure! A Halberstadt fighter - never saw any replicas of that one yet!

Read some of your reports and noticed they where about Fees, Bullet - but I had thought, you might have gone on to the more effective designs like the Bristol fighter. Anyone tried the Hannover? She can perform at highest altitudes, I read.

Earth spits out unexploded granades
Olham replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Rickity, those unexploded granades are still dangerous. The powder changes somehow, and becomes even more explosive. Not to talk about "Senfgas" - if you get one drop of that on your skin, you will soon see a bubble big as a tennis ball there. -

Perhaps you make a thread, asking everyone what vid card they use and how performance is, Jim? Should get you lots of info.

Congrats, Stapme, and welcome at the front. You will see very soon, that you have taken only the very first hurdle. Now you climb into the crate they give you, and try to do the very best for your country. You will have the best of all comrades, and you may have nerves of steel - you will need both to make it much longer than 17 hours - the average life expectancy of a pilot here between heaven and hell. Dismissed! Stapme, please PM me your hometown and country - I want to put you on the "OFF Pilots Planet" maps. Thanks! Mighty, I run an ATI X1900, and my fraps are between 25 and 38. I have aircraft on 5, clouds on 1, scenery detail and terrain detail on 3, rest on 2. Running fine!

Hitler Parody: Over Flanders Fields
Olham replied to Launchbury's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yes, I found both very well made - "Saving private Ryan" needed some Hollywood, to make it bearable; and "Band of Brothers" was just as if you was there. But I can understand everyone, who would not watch it. On my last visit, "Saving private Ryan" was on TV. My mum watched it, and she grew very pale at the sight of the Normandy landing. "Now I understand, why Wolf (my dad) and Menno (her second husband) seemed so irritated, so enclosed, throughout their lives" she would say half an hour after the film. She had decided to look through the whole film (she likes Tom Hanks), but I could see from the angle of my eye, that she was very uncomfortable with all this. -
Best career yet (luck involved)
Olham replied to Fliegenhund's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Amazing indeed, Launchbury! I have never dared yet to pick the Eindecker for campaigns. I wish you all the luck you need. Your shooting accuracy of 28 % is very impressive. Please show more of him, if he lasts longer. And next time click on "view claims" - the left side with pilot pic will remain, on the right will be your claims texts.
