  1. Good one, Dej! Don't let Winder hear that; it would only set him up too much. How close do they come, when it's on "tightest" - I wouldn't like to have them sitting on my knees?
  2. OFF Forum Pilots Maps

Update 07/29/09 15:00 Parky, Canada, added. The maps are in post #1 of this thread
  3. I've flown several missions now with a larger flight, and it feels quite impressive. But also more like "kindergarten" - I must always check and care for them. In air combat, it's great - the opponent has more craft to concetrate on; and also more dangerous, as now the word "furball" really seems to fit.
  4. Yup. Hitler knew very well, why all high ranking officers and even Generals had to hand out their pistols, before they could see him.
  5. Mr.Lucky, what you can try next time: 1. when you see the enemy two miles behind you, press "R" (Return) to collect your wings closer; then climb away from the enemy, until they get within 1 mile. 2. Then turn round, mark the highest (mostly the rear) enemy flyer, and press "A" (attack). Now your wings will climb to get him, whilst you should try to protect them, if any possible. Your direct wingman no. 1 will stay with you, so you should press "H" (Help), if someone gets at your tail. But I had that numerous times: no witnesses left - no kills. That's war.
  6. Exxxactly!!! Mmuahahahahaaa!!!!

Carrick, it is useful to be the flight leader. Then you can give them orders. One order, that keeps them from firing at your target, is "R" (return). That should make them join up behind you. Another possible way is to select a target (needs TAC on), and then command "A" (attack) - now they should attack that target and leave yours alone.
  8. Sweatin in the Cold Thin Air

Great report, Duce! Wow - I yet want to meet one so good! Was he an ace?
  9. OvS - the movie "Der Untergang" shows the final days in the Fuehrerbunker; and Hitler's decay and loss of reality. The officers report about the Russians closing in on Berlin. Hitler wipes it away and says, this would all be cleared by Steiner's counterattack. The officers have to tell him, that Steiner could not unite enough forces to make that attack. That's what leads to the outbreak of Hitler's rage. He explains to the officers remaining in the room, that he couldn't lead Germany any further to get out of this situation, when his orders were not followed. Maybe I'm extremely sensitive, but when I see his madness in combination with his charisma; and the obvious fear of those officers in the face of all this madness and rage - it makes me feel horrible. I did not manage to see the whole movie; it just brings up too bad feelings in me.
  10. Oh me oh my - what happened between picture 4 and 5? Did the Albatros lure you into a Flak burst? And did that monoplane still fly?
  11. To all pilots: reading most of all your posts, I beagn to wonder, why some of you have a very good claim/kill ratio, whereas I and some others often have 24 claims with only 7 confirmations. So I made a poll to find out, how the best claims may be written - I hope it'll work out? Olham
  12. Hair-raising combat!

BigJim, you want the AI to be human, but it will probably never be that. Can't you see, that not only the AI has advantages? The AI might say (if it could think human way): that's not fair! He has real eyes, and a brain that can think tricky, nasty ideas - he's far more lethal than us! And he can study us, and come back to use what he learnt! Unfair, unfair!!! I say: let the AI have advantages - as long as I know them, I will learn to fight them better. I've been flying IL2 1946, and had redouts and blackouts occasionally. I learnt to avoid them. I know, the AI had them not, but I still shot them down much more often, than they got me.
  13. Yes, easy to believe. They where yet at the beginning of the whole technological development. I could well imagine, that two craft of the same type may have differed, or one craft at different wheather (cold, hot, humid) or altitudes. I assume you got this site before, but if not, maybe it can provide you all with additional data. http://www.hq.nasa.gov/pao/History/SP-468/ch2-2.htm
  14. I take zatt as a clear statementt, zatt yu are still flyink for der Kaiser ant ze fazzerland, Zoomzoom! Vell done, brave man - letzz have some crumpetz for tea! Mwmuahahahahahahaaaaa!!!
  15. Hair-raising combat!

BigJim, historically the claims where often just a matter of luck or coincidence. And even a well respected ace like von Richthofen lost many of his claims, otherwise he would be an ace of 120 or even more kills. So, whenever you don't get credited for a kill, wipe it off, and get on to the next one - it's all you can do.

Map edit 07/28/09 20:30 Venator moved to Canada. As the American map is pretty crowded in the north-east, I couldn't make two dart for Venator, who's "head is in Washington, DC; and his heart is in Sudbury, Ontario". He decided for his roots. Well done - we need more Canadians on the map! The maps are in post #1 of this thread
  17. Enjoy this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrGCKtvG0gI
  18. Enemy flight density

Yes, I don't think, you have to change it to get the years' activities right. There will always be less activity in 1916 than in 1918. I have mine on "light", and encounter regularly 12 or more enemy fighters. For me, that is enough!

  20. Enemy flight density

Wouldn't you rather think, the "medium" setting should be? Or even the high density?
  21. Hair-raising combat!

In the briefing room window, at the bottom, you see "review" or "replay" or something like that. When you click that, you will get a map and a developing line of your flight path. Every incident/action will now be written as a pop-up, and it continues, when you click "play". It is very useful, to later see, what all happened. It even shows incidents near you; so you may have had a fight of Albatros against Tripes, but at 13:11 h you read: "German observation balloon destroyed at ...", or "Roland C II destroyed".
  22. Well, I believe, that any WW1 sim or movie will contribute to the success of OFF; simply because more people notice that field of sims, and then compare the sims, and then find out, that OFF is REALLY great to have and fly.
  23. Hair-raising combat!

I never had that happening, Venator. Did you see that "rounds fired" info in the review? I mean: did the review also only show the beginning, and then failed? Cause that would be a proof, that the sim really didn't log anything beyond the first shots. If that was the case, you might send an E-mail to support@overflandersfields.com And tell any details you know. And please PM me your hometown and country - I'd like to put you on the OFF Pilots map. PS: you can "re-adjust" OFF manager and even CFS3 in "workshop" - but that will erase all pilots.
  24. Looking through Peter Kilduff's book THE RED BARON, I often stopped at this portrait of Lothar von Richthofen. To me, it presents the look of a young man, who has been facing his own mortality. If I compare the picture with his brother Manfred and the hospital photo, I find a big difference in the expression. And when I look at the wreckage of his Fokker Dr.1, I wonder how he survived it. Edit: what makes me wonder - the report said, Lothar had lost one (the upper?) wing. But this crashed Fokker doesn't look like that.
  25. That brings up the question: can we get those "missing" data from the replicas of today? Or do they have too different engines?
