  1. Yep, as Corsair says: you start the sim, and in the first (smaller) panel you select "Mods: Off" Now you should be able to connect.
  2. Lots of Crumpet Warbirds

Naw, let the picture grow on you. It's a great shot. I like the British look of war birds - I even find there is a beauty in the S.E.5a, and in the Bristol Fighter anyway. These birds must not always fight - I liked Arthur Gould Lee's descriptions very much, when he wrote about the daily life in his squadron - the life between the patrols and the fighting. And when I started reading "Open Cockpit"; the first part, where he revisited France and La Gorgue many years after the war's end, then I realised how he felt proud of their achievements, and sad about the chaps who hadn't made it, and melancholic about the days of youth he had seen here, and which were now gone; leaving echoes in his memories. No shooting. Let the picture grow on you.
  3. Bagged da Baron and Immelman

Not that OFF was wrong, MudWasp - Jim means, that von Richthofen and Imelmann WERE in Jasta 2 at that date, but they had not yet reached ace status. They were pretty much unknown pilots then.
  4. Bagged da Baron and Immelman

No problem, MudWasp - even Germans get the two names mixed up.
  5. Although I guess we are both stretched to the breaking point about WOFF and Matt's score, I would prefer to hear the music only with the first starting of "Wings Over Flanders Fields". Call me old-fashioned or sentimental - it just belongs together IMHO like good film music with the film. Of course I don't mind when they give a "pre-listening" of the score - I'll just keep my ears closed and wait for the finished sim.
  6. Found this 1913 slideshow about the airfield Johannisthal (later: Berlin Adlershof), the first real airfield southeast of Berlin. It looks like a model for the film "The Magnificent Men & their Flying Machines". Each "slide" has a description in German, English and French - those were the days, when the aviators from all over the world exchanged their experiences here - only one year before the beginning of "The Great War". Must have been a fascinating time... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Msh1yFSzc_o
  7. Bagged da Baron and Immelman

The second flyer must have been Hans Imelmann from Jasta 2. The more famous "Pour-le-Mérite" owner Max Immelmann had already fallen by then. They often get confused. Nevertheless it surely was a thriller. I guess that was a great encounter - one of those special moments in OFF, when immersion is even topped again. Hans Imelmann at THE AERODROME: http://www.theaerodrome.com/aces/germany/imelmann.php ...and Max Immelmann: http://www.theaerodrome.com/aces/germany/immelmann.php
  8. This video is a marvellous compilation of some fine historical footage, combined with an insight into "THE VINTAGE AVIATOR". Enjoy!
  9. It took about 14 days for me to get to Berlin, Germany.
  10. RoF online can be very exciting, as you fly against real human pilots. I often enjoy it with friends. The way it works easily and fluidly is just great to have IMHO. But when it comes to real immersion - to immerse yourself into a WW1 air war sim like in a book as "No Parachute!" - then OFF is by far unbeaten. I don't find it too hard to be waiting for WOFF, simply because the way OBD do their work gave me absolute trust: they only work so much longer on it, to give us a so much more improved experience. I find that the adjective "immersive" is like the "Pour-le-Mérite" for single campaign flying - and this order is definitely owned by "Over Flanders Fields". Edit/PS: Oh, and yes: Matt's score is an important part of it - the perfect soundtrack
  11. WWI Mod for IL-2 '46?

Dimus, if you would like to fly OFF online - did you ever check "Madmatt's Multiplayer Essentials"? I haven't tried it myself, but from Matt wrote in posts back then, it seemed to help with multiplayer problems and make things a lot easier. Here is the link: http://combatace.com/topic/42094-madmatts-over-flanders-fields-essential-multiplayer-files-autoinstaller/

  14. WWI Mod for IL-2 '46?

Yep - and many more things, afaik. Perhaps Elephant will respond here - I think he installed and used it. I never did so far, but it looekd tempting.
  15. WWI Mod for IL-2 '46?

Here is a very well-made video which elephant brought to my attention. They used IL-2 and the Dark Blue World mod. Enjoy!

  18. Shuttleworth uncovered 2013

Wonderful photos, Tonyo! The Camel as a fragile, masterly piece of art! Didn't know that the Bristol Bullet was still flyable - thank you for sharing!
  19. WWI Mod for IL-2 '46?

Not me - but it looks less good to me than OFF; not to speak of WOFF, which should be looking even so much better. I'm not one who tries out everything though - I am rather careful about what I install.
  20. Read the post before yours - site owner Erik changed it. As for the light: if there is a window behind you, you could use a window shade? Maybe it's not the light, but how the TrackIR is set up. It should best be 50 - 60 cm away from your head clip, with a free "view" to it, whatever movements you make during flight. Don't know Wildenrath, but thank you for the compliments on Germany, Jim.
  21. Hey, Jim, nice to see you again! So you were in the RAF - perhaps you need to send a PM to Dave or Erik? However - you received one!
  22. Hi, all new pilots, and welcome over Flanders fields! some of you may not find their name/location in my "OFF Forum Pilots Maps" yet - if you'd like to be in there, please send me a PM with your town and country/state. Thank you!

  24. I can't believe it!

Do you mean you will be flying in a Lancaster bomber? Man, that would be quite something. But I guess you meant the Stearman? Still - you may have access to the bomber with him - maybe you can even get inside and man the battle stations! We hope to see some pics, Tony, and I wish you that you can call off the one or the other date - this chance is so rare!
