  1. Magpie at six o'clock

Dej, that was one of Allmighty's paintjobs, but I would be proud of it. We can be glad, those birds don't have Spandaus - they would shoot us up quite often, I'm afraid. CJ - I found the bird was doing very well against an accu-driven "opponent".
  2. Yes, Dej, I know what you mean. Fees are an easy prey, but it feels terrible to butcher them like that. So much indeed, that I once wrote a post about it in "Reports from the Front": http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?s=&am...st&p=308042 I don't like two-seater attacks; only the Bristol can fight and defend itself.
  3. Last UK WW1 veteran dies

Yes, Dej had already reported that (see previous page, bottom). May his old soul find infinite peace now, with all the others.
  4. In fact, it works so well that sometimes when I get key facts wrong, I still get the kill. The lords of war must love you, Bullet! I must check my pending numbers!

Update 07/28/09 00:05 Bletchley, England, added fubar45, England, added England is getting really crowded now! Maps are in post #1
  6. That's okay, everyone has a bad day. I have had phases of mid air collisions with enemy AI, which made me think, they do that on purpose, as a last desperate measure. That is not so. I'm flying this sim since February now, and it only happened now and then. Sometimes, when nothing works right, I tend to blame everything that FEELS wrong - often unfair. Reading your last post, it seems to me, that what you need to find would be good online human vs human combat flight sims. I can't say, how far OFF can give you that, as I haven't tried it yet. But what I was looking for since the nineties was a sim, which I could enter like through a time tunnel, to be THERE for the time flying. OFF gave me that in an amount, I never had expected to ever find. One last thing you should try: enter another time; start a campaign in summer 1917, or spring/summer 1918. It will be very different - and tough.
  7. BigJim, did you have a bad day? There is truth in some of your criticism, but, good grief, this was pretty heavy. Did you ever try flying your sorties without any aids like labels, TAC or Targeting cone and Brackets? I had a flight that style yesterday, and I even saw the Flak puffs, and I knew the sun was in the west. I mean, I was prepared, some fighters would appear soon. Still they came so fast down on us (S.E.5a), that I didn't manage to handle that. I have no experience with bombers yet, but from what you sound like, you are anyway more the fighter type, I think. What you expect, would seem to be an AI, that fights you like a human opponent on the other rig. But this development is not THERE yet - no sim could provide you with exactly THAT. OFF has made a giant step in that direction from Phase 2. Maybe, if you fly as I described above, and it bores you - you are simply TOO good? Perhaps Oleg's Battle of Britain will get closer for you? Not sure. But I'm sure, the devs will work on into such direction with AI behaviour. So far, I don't know anyone here, who has survived 2 war years already. I haven't been bored with this yet, and I don't think I will.
  8. Mixture question

A good question, Mr.Lucky - I had my Albatros DIII on "auto-mixture" al the time. Could that have been wrong? Could an expert tell us, please?
  9. Oh yes, I had a totally different experience now! I had so far mostly made my sorties with 2 - 4 wingmen. Most opponent flights had numbers of 6 - 12 craft, which where often joined by another flight of 4 - 6 fighters. I mostly only made it alive alone, with no one to witness my kills. Now, yesterday, a real air battle unfolded. Flight one with 6 craft got attacked by 9 or 10 S.E.5a, and we joined into the fight with our 6 craft, to help. All action soon took place down at the deck, but I remained higher up with my personal wingman, and managed to help several pilots out. When we had finished up the S.E.5s, there were still three pilots from flight 1, and 4 of us, which was a refreshing experience! I always knew, I could raise the player flight density, but had thought, that the enemy flights would again double that. That doesn't seem to be the case.

Yes, Great Britain is a good example, that the size is not important - it's the content. I have been thinking about enlarging the British isles in order to be able to place all future pilots there.
  11. Vell, ze Nieuport maybe an eksseptshon - from ze looks (not ze firepower)! Butt iff you look for der creators of real dashink sleek designs, you vill end vizz names like Roland, Albatros, Siemens-Schuckert or Pfalz. Zee crumpetz are flyink crumpet-shaped boxes viss wings on, painted camels**t green. A good reeson to shoot zem down - Mmuahahahahahaaaa!!!!
  12. An insight into "FrankenFighter's" little shop of horrors (all technology with electric wires is horror for me - Lol!) And then he even tries to modify his thumb! Sorry, HomeBoy, I wish you that it heals together as it should be. I have done signwriting some time and had to cut film/foils for letters and decorations a lot; sometimes in a hurry. So I know what a good cut with a razor feels like. The good thing is - these cuts are so "clean", they heal quickly. All the best!

Thanks, Mack and OvS and everyone else - I also like to see this blossom. Update 07/27/09 10:15 British_eh, British Columbia, added (could have sworn, I had you on the map already) djm, Virginia, added griphos, Texas, added. The maps are in post #1
  14. OT/ We Choose The Moon

    Perhaps we can have both?
  15. OT/ We Choose The Moon

Looking at their missions with nowadays knowledge and technology, they dared so much to do it! And they all where changed a lot, when they returned, after they had seen the small blue pearl. I would love to let every big "decider", every big manager of our modern world, may he be an industrial giant or a political leader, fly around our little blue planet in a Space Shuttle, to feel humbled through the sight of the fragile precious pearl in the big black space. We won't be able to escape this planet as a whole mankind, once we destroyed it; so we better did care now. But we can expand our fields of view. And a space project can make us feel like ONE mankind in the face of eternity - so I agree with OvS: let's go beyond the moon - instead of building more nuclear subs.
  16. Mr.Lucky - try Jasta 9, Vauxcerre, July 1918! You'll fly the Albatros DVa with 1.100 rounds; mostly against SPAD XIII. They can't turn with you, but they try. You should do fine! (But don't dive steep with them - they'll come back up some time).
  17. Hey, Red Dog - good you're back in the air! Waldemar, you seem to have "big fun", eyh? Makes me want to fly in a two-seater, just for the team spirit.
  18. OFF Forum Pilots Maps

Last update tonight: 07/27/09 00:07 Quoth, Wales, added. We want you! OFF Pilots - PM me your hometown and country/state, and I'll put you on the map! Maps are in post #1 of this thread.
  19. Sebastian Moeller

Waldemar, perhaps you start another carreer elsewhere?
  20. OFF Forum Pilots Maps

Yes, so far you have! But wait, until more people there discover this sim. Update 7/26/09 23:08 Waldemar Kurtz, Seattle, added.
  21. Looking forward to the pics, Matthias Maybe one idea, to get to some good pics, OvS - I'll see what I can do. Pol had an Oeffag DIII shown recently. So, if he has a model, I could send him the skin?
  22. OFF Forum Pilots Maps

Yup! Enlarged it and moved it - my one minute feeling like the Allmighty!
  23. Did my first two "Full-DiD" missions today, with "player flight density" set to high. I can only recommend that. Had 5 wingmen on each flight, and operated in "Creaghorn-style": I ordered "attack", and then helped those, who needed help. Worked perfectly fine! Thanks, Creaghorn. And for those pilots who are allowed to warp, I have put max. alt. to 18.000 That should be a different story now!
  24. Haha, Jim - wait until you fly 120 % "Full-DiD" (no TAC, no Labels, no Warp)! On today's patrol, I SAW the Flak above Douai, I CHECKED around, but couldn't find anyone. And then I get hit - tactactac!!! - two S.E.5a, right out of the big white sun! I was lucky I could crashland the crate and survive.
