Barkhorn, I understand your wish, and had the same, when I was in Jasta 11, Brayelles, and had missions with both Richthofens, Allmenröder and other aces in flight 1. You know what I did? I just followed them at their flight path, and didn't care about mine. Try it out - Winder will NOT come jumping at you from behind a bush or cloud. :Flyer: :Flyer:

Last update for 7/22/09 22:58 Typhoon, Canada, added. Typhoon was so nice to send me "Phase 2" back in October 2008 - thanks again, Tony! Through your help I found to this wonderful sim. Come on, everybody who is not yet in here; PM me your hometown and country/state, and I'll add you to your country's map. The maps are in post #1 of this thread.

That clip "Udet - Wunder des Fliegens" is a great link, thanks, DerMo. I have very mixed up feelings watching it. When I see pictures of my own childhood in the late 50s, they don't look much different. I hadn't known, that there was so much film with Udet. A pity he couldn't have been just a civil pilot, maybe on expeditions, or in Canada.

My first attempt at a training video
Olham replied to HomeBoy's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Homeboy, I hope you only deleted this to get it even better. I had caught a brief glimpse this afternoon (but in a hurry), and found, you have a good instructor's voice - relaxed and patiently. Only point - it was too low (loudness) against the engine noises. So, I hope to see a redone version here soon. The newbies couldn't learn it any qicker. -
You're not alone, Rickity - I understand next to nothing about these rigs we fly (Lol!) My friend and neighbour envies me for my wonderful install and setup of BHaH. His rig is much more modern and faster, but doesn't perform the sim as well as mine. In an hour, we shall have a "flying evening" again. First he flies, then me. We have own pilot pics in our logs, and he is learning to handle the flying with TrackIR, which he will get as soon as possible. Will be fun.

Hmmm - I'm definitely a shooter then. Just had a flight mission to protect 2 DFW reconaissance craft. But we had just started, when we saw two Nupes attacking Chambry airfield. I decided to shoot them down and did so. But just when we where traveling on, two more Nupes attacked us. So I had to shoot those down, too. Now I thought, we could get on with our mission after all, when 4 more Nieuports came our way. I wanted to ignore them (ammo was down to 300 - 350 estimated), but they didn't ignore us. They came down on us. By now, flight 1 was with us. Walter Dittrich and Hand Kummetz where chasing two Nupes above a forrest, whilst I fought the two higher up. I managed to shoot both down, and on the last one, my MG made 'click' - but he didn't get much further and fell into the trees. My mission was spoiled, of course, as I had no rounds left, and I turned home.

Okay then: all Fees so far where easy prey to me, cause you where not in one of them, Bullethead. I never take the risk to dive attack on them to break the formation. I usually pick out the last flyer. After the first hit, he will fall back even more. Then I finish him off.

How many do you get rejected, Creaghorn?

The time is shown different everywhere. In the red text you get in the mission, it loks this: 08:16:24 In the briefing, it looks this: 08h16 So what's right? I also used more wordy texts. Still, some where confirmed, some rejected.

Try a German campaign, BuB. And when you can report, that you don't loose claims there, I will get wordy. I have so far ever only got a third of my claims accepted. I write them like this: 3 Nieuport 17 Craft from Esc.86 shot down, craft crashed at 11:22 SW of Vivaise airfield. Craft from Esc.86 shot down, craft crashed at 11:24 west of Vivaise airfield. Craft from Esc.86 shot down, craft crashed at 11:25, west of Vivaise airfield.

BuB, I am definitely a pilot who cares for his wings in all mission. On a scramble, jumped at by the double amount of enemy craft, that simply doesn't work. I tried it first, and always got shot down myself. On a crowded scramble, every man fights for himself *. But I wouldn't mind if they remained on the ground; I'm doing most of the work anyway. And I would have enough witnesses after my fight. * of course I still shoot at every craft I see that attacks one of mine

Fe2b and RE8 are easiest prey. I always attack from 200 - 100 feet below their tail, flying their course. I lift my nose to fire a good burst into the belly, and push down again, before I get into the range of the observer. You can also fly straight lined up behind him, and shoot the observer, but that is taking the risk to be shot at, and your engine will be the first to cut out. With Strutters, you should never try the second version; stay well below - they have a better firing range. The Bristol fighter reacts on attacks like the name says - that craft will fight. My best successes there where long range hits, and I could shoot four or five down (in various missions). But almost every time, they shot up my engine too. My advice: don't attack them, when you must not. PS: I think, the Brisfit's AI in BHaH is a real masterpiece of aggressive combat defense.

Field transfer mission repeating itself
Olham replied to Fliegenhund's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
badgerboy - such totally unexpected scenario sure is great! Hope the devs build more of that into the next OFF version. Widowmaker had an experience like that. He had just climbed into his cockpit, started engine, when a single Albatros from Jasta 12 zoomed over his field, destroying some of his craft, and zooming off again. And I had a patrol flight, which felt uncomfortable, as we had to cross the lines (and then you don't get enemy warnings by the Flak puffs), and the big white blinding sun stood high left of me. Again and again I checked there to prevent an attack out of the sun. And that saved me, when suddenly a SPAD was there - from one blink to the other - already so large, and firing! I was prepared and pushed stick forward; so I only got minor damage. Such 'events' make it even richer - you never know, what will happen next. -
Dear Acme Wire company
Olham replied to Broadside uda Barn's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yes, one must say that for British engineering: their creations may not always be of an obvious beauty, and the colouring they give them, may sometimes be understatement (to say the least), but they can certainly fix their parts together - glue or wire - it will last a while. :i-m_so_happy: -

The Sopwith Triplane features the best pilot visabilty Well, among the Allied craft perhaps; but beat the view of a Pfalz or an Albatros.

What's your favorite WWI Movie?
Olham replied to Duce Lewis's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Does anyone know about a DVD version of that TV sries "Wings"? Perhaps in German even? -
You will definitely desert your family a little, once OFF campaign hooked you, and you have got good enough to survive more than three sorties. I have several games here - but I only play OFF. No time for anything else, would all be distraction from becoming a better fighter pilot. The best to do while waiting is to spend some good time with your family - you won't see them much once you got "Over Flanders Fields". Please give me your hometown and country/state, and I'll put you into the OFF Pilots Planet maps (if you don't mind).

Field transfer mission repeating itself
Olham replied to Fliegenhund's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hey, Fliegenhund, haven't got you in the OFF Pilots Planet maps yet, I think? Would you like to be in there? Then give me your hometown and country/state. By the way: if you meant "Flying Dog" in your avatar, it should be "Fliegender Hund". Now the meaning is "Dog of Flies". -

Really wish I could help you, m8! And I know, you only got angry, cause you LOVE it, and now you can't fly it. Best advice - go to bed, have a good sleep, and do a complete re-install (CFS3 first) tomorrow, when you are fresh. -
Question reg OFF´s Ernst Udet Fok D7 OAW skin
Olham replied to DerMo's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yes, Shredward's right; the one he names above, has black and white upper wings. The other Fokker DVII (non-OAW) has them red-white. So you can get both here. Here is a picture from the "Wings Palette" website that I recommend here. The info is from Dan-San Abbott. http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww1/f/415/59
