  1. Didn't get it focused, but recognisable, I hope.
  2. Well, it doesn't seem to have been an improvement of the German fighter force. English Wikipedia says about it: Deliveries to operational units began in August 1917. Jasta 10 was the first recipient of the new aircraft, followed by Jasta 4. While markedly better than the earlier Roland designs, the D.III was generally considered inferior to the Albatros D.III and D.V. German pilots variously criticized the Pfalz’s heavy controls, low speed, lack of power, or low rate of climb compared to the Albatros. The D.III slipped in turns, leading to crashes when unwary pilots turned at very low altitudes. Moreover, the Pfalz stalled sharply and spun readily. Recovery from the resulting flat spin was difficult, though some pilots took advantage of this trait to descend quickly or evade enemy aircraft. The Pfalz’s primary advantage was its strength and sturdiness. The Albatros scouts were plagued by failure of their single-spar lower wings. The Pfalz, however, could safely dive at high speeds due to its twin-spar lower wing. For this reason, the Pfalz was well-suited to diving attacks on observation balloons, which were usually heavily defended by anti-aircraft guns trained to the balloon's altitude. D.IIIa The most pressing complaint about the new Pfalz was that the guns were buried in the fuselage, preventing pilots from clearing gun stoppages in flight. This feature had been carried over from the earlier Roland designs. In November 1917, Pfalz responded by producing the slightly modified D.IIIa, which relocated the guns to the upper fuselage decking. The D.IIIa was distinguishable by its enlarged semicircular horizontal stabilizer and cropped lower wingtips. It also featured a more powerful version of the Mercedes D.III engine. Pfalz built approximately 260 D.III and 750 D.IIIa aircraft. Most were delivered to Bavarian Jastas. Once Pfalz completed the final batch in May 1918, production shifted to the D.IIIa's successor, the D.XII. Some aircraft from the final D.IIIa batch were delivered to Turkey. As of 30 April 1918, 433 D.IIIa scouts were still in frontline use. By 31 August, that number had declined to 166. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pfalz_D.III#D.IIIa
  3. Absolutely right, Lou! Here's a pic from yesterday's dogfighting with aces from RFC-1, flying Nupe 17 Lewis. As close as it gets! (Got him in the end!)
  4. Haha!! That's my "be on the watch" look - after soem time as a fighter pilot, you expect Tripes or Nupes everywhere - even from the next room! Lol!
  5. Yep - Pfalz may be even better, Hasse, but so damn hard to fight something with.
  6. Two pics of my notebook, that I use to note all I found important on my flights - mainly mission, the kills, craft types and squadrons; perhaps ace names. I must admit, that it could be done more neatly, and more detailed - everybody may do as they like. It is definitely raising my immersion; so I thought, perhaps you like it too. Edit/PS: I admit, that that was a VERY successful day - they are not always like that.
  7. Post a pic of your town

So, Alabama and South Carolina towns would look very similar, I understand?
  8. German View Point

The EIII would be the last craft I would recommend to you - you can't fight in that one. Try the DVII first, or an Albatros DII or early DIII. Much better.
  9. What nationality are you?

Hey - the world is small! Which restaurantscene is that, Rickity - must watch it again.
  10. Yes, a Tripe is better in all respects, than an Albatros - and if you have the twin guns version, then even in firepower. Well, the view is better on my craft - Albatros offers a view unbeaten by any of the other craft. But you should be able to do nicely.
  11. My best pilot

Vatt??? Ziss Limey is an Albatross killer!?! You vaitt, won day vee shall meet over ze Flanders Fields! Zen I vill gif you a solid demostrashon of der twin Spandaus, you von't like, mein Herr! I vill make an assembly kit of your cows**t green craft!!! A great record, Mack! Wish I ever had that claims/confirmations ratio. Should it really be those detailed reports? Or can my headquarter not imagine, that I am NOT boasting? I would keep him safe, until another pilot reached the same kills - then fly him again. Here's my log of my best still living DiD Pilot - you see that claims/kills ratio? But yesterday, he got new confirmations, and will now enter the ace list in Siggi's board (when that Squirrel comes back from his camping trip - how can he go camping right now, when I receive a new medal and confirms?!?!?!? Lol!!) Jasta 28w, Wasquehal, is a great staffel, if you like to meet aces. You see in the claims, that I shot down Rhys Davis and Raymond Collishaw; and in the last two flights, I downed RFC-1 aces Tom Falcon Hazel, Philip F Fullard, William C Campbell and Gordon Percey Olley. A little earlier, I shot some aces with Tripes of RNAS-1 - Cyril Burfield Ridley, Roderic S 'Bregeut' Dallas and Richard Pearman Minifie. You see, I have fun - but the further I survive, the more do I fear for this pilot.
  12. AA changed for the better?

Hellshade, when you get Flak fire, you can only zig zag - flying straight is certain death.
  13. Try the Camel then - some American squads in BHaH use Camels. When you enter a new pilot, click through the Squads, until you see one with Camels (that's listed on the right side).
  14. Noob questions

I think, UncleAl will say, this isn't the right way, but I use the command for "Magneto off" - that's Shift+M, or Ctrl.+M - just look into the command keys chart HomeBoy made, above in the stickies.
  15. Noob questions

Don't know if it does anything good, but since my performance is good, I'll mention it - may someone with deeper knowledge comment it: I have ALWAYS, when I fly the sim, my virus protection shield switched off (of course I'm not connected then!) Advice of a friend - he said, those programs can check things to be loaded, in the background, and delay the whole process.
  16. Phantom Kills

Yes, perhaps - you should read the notes inbetween missions, when on a blackboard, those new appear about other flight members or wingmen, and their claims. Maybe your observer makes own claims - Winder or Pol could tell.
  17. New Noop anyone?

Sandbagger and Rabu - you guys WILL get me into the cockpit of a Nupe, sooner or later. Great looking!
  18. Noob questions

PS: Disable advisor messages, simulation warnings and target cone is after my "DiD Standard taste", you can have them on; they don't "eat" fraps and may help.
  19. Noob questions

Broadside and Scout, I have an older system than you two, but my OFF performs great. So I have made screenshots of my "Graphics config" settings. You find them in "workshop" under: graphics config > file > custom settings (ignore warning) >window > overrides You should not move the sliders in 'texture info' (at least I think that; not sure) - just click or unclick the boxes. For the max fraps, hope someone else remembers.
  20. Noob questions

Broadside, you may have to change some things for better fraps. One of them was the actual Maximum Fraps = 0, that should be changed to = 35 or more. But you must check the FAQs or hope, someone else remembers. Also, certain setting have to be clicked or unclicked in "Graphic settings". If you can't find it, I may look tomorrow - too tired now. Good night...
  21. German View Point

BigJim, balloons are only credited, when they where an assigned mission target - and even then, many of them will not get confirmed.
  22. I have installed the minipatch, and see the FOV settings can be adjusted by the player now. When I have 4:3 screen size relationship, how should I do the setting, if I want it one "notch" more zoomed? Do I have to change both horizontal and vertical numbers? And does it not lead to a distorted picture?
  23. Okay, thanks, will try it out. Should solve my problem (zoom getting lost) at recentering TrackIR.
  24. What nationality are you?

Hay-on-Wye - exactly! That must have been Wales already, but right behind the border, maybe. But we went further into Wales, for the landscape - amazing. What did you mean by "advertising Wales" through Black Adder? Did you mean poverty? Ras - is Minnesota the state where the Cohen brothers made "Fargo" ? Cause, in that movie there are all these Swedish names?
  25. What nationality are you?

Can do, Dej, but then I need the town/city in Wales, where you come from. I think I was in Wales, in the eighties. Or at least at the border to Wales; in a town, where it's all about books. Bookshops everywhere. Was there with a teacher who wanted to search for books, that where hard to find. But I don't know the name of the town anymore. What I remember, is green hills with lots of sheep, and gentle valleys; cottages here and there - very peace- and beautiful.
