  1. This just isn't right

Since sims appeared, WW1 or WW2, I have again and again only seen Allied fighters shooting down German craft burning and smoking. I found it really "refreshing" to see, it also happened the other way round.
  2. I'm just wondering, who's name I haven't seen here for a long time (but my memory for names is like an archive after an exploding handgranade - so feel free to add those you are missing). Bullethead, Beany, tttiger, Capt.Winters (so far)
  3. Missing In Action

Hey, Rooster - see you down there. Also long time ago, that I saw you. Hope you're well.
  4. Missing In Action

Hey, Mighty! Is the north of England so cold, that you call it 'frozen'? Now I got another PM - Bullethead is alive and well, but has piles of work to do for the final states of a project. We'll hear from him in three weeks or so.
  5. Well, the title says it all.

That was UncleAl - doesn't even stop when inbetween enemy fighter's fire and Archie...
  8. Here is a quote of Lothar von Richthofen, as I found it in Peter Kilduff's book "The Red Baron". "It had become known that the British had put a price on my brother's head. Every flyer on the other side knew him, for at the time he alone flew a red-painted aeroplane. For that reason it had long been our wish to have all aeroplanes of our Staffel painted red and we implored my brother to allow it so he would not be so especially conspicuous. The request was granted; for we had shown ourselves to be worthy of the red colour by our many aerial victories. The red colour signified a certain insolence. Everyone knew that. It attracted attention. Consequently, one had to really perform. Proudly we finally looked at our red birds. My brother's crate was glaring red. Each of the rest of us had some additional markings in other colours. As we could not see each other's face in the air, we chose these colours as recognition symbols. Schaefer, for example, had his elevator, rudder and most of the back part of the fuselage (painted) black; Allmenroeder used white [on the nose and spinner], Wolff used green and I had yellow. Each one of us was different. In the air and from the gound, as well as from the enemy's view, we all looked to be red, as only small other parts were painted in another colour."
  9. Missing In Action

Hey, Beanie - I see you down there! Live!
  10. Nothing yet forgiven? Hmm - it seems you Welsh, English and Scotch need war with other nations, to stick together, ey? And even there, you try to steal the kills of each other? Shame, shame!
  11. Missing In Action

Okay, back to topic: I have PMed Bullet and Beanie. Beanie just replied, that he has lots of work recently, plus he is working on some Fokker DVII skins, which he wants to upload soon. (Hope I was alowed to tell?) Nothing from Bullet so far.
  12. Hey, Ogmund, welcome here! Congrats for hitting the field and for making it back! Yes, it takes quite some time to learn it all, but it will grow on you, as you grow with it. 1) I have never done bombing raids, but in war there is often a decision to make, like whether to follow the leader or try to fullfill the order. I think, you made a decision. 2) If your craft doesn't have a target view, you can only learn it by doing, I suppose. 3) Did you try to press "W" for "next waypoint" ? It should appear then. 4) The landing is not necessary. If you are far enough into your own terrain, you might as well press "escape", to find yourself at the claim form or the next briefing. But landing is of course nicer for the immersion - if you find the time. And your feelings about making the next flight is exactly what each real bomber pilot must have felt, too. Absolutely normal - isn't that deep immersion?
  13. Virtual Cockpit view

Tch - how could a topic about a simple command key turn into a glowing red hot thread?... ... ? ...
  14. SGCSG1, you can write them short, as far as I found out - it may be even unimportant, what you write, except 1. how many of 2. which type do you claim. The where and when may be less important. But it is fun for those, who want to feel like being there really, over Flanders. And as Lou said, you may even bypass claims in workshop, and get them credited at once.
  15. Just recently I have read, what Lothar von Richthofen had stated about this. He said, that MvR was first searching for a colour, that would be like the sky, to make a fighter almost invisible. But after a while, he realised, that this could not be achieved - all aircraft where still clearly visible. If I can't make it invisible, he said to Lothar, I might as well paint it a bright strong colour, that my wingmen will recognise their flight leader instantly. And so he painted it red. Later then, someone asked him, if this red wasn't too well visible for all opponents. He replied, he wanted to be visible and recognisable. He wanted to show the Entente fighters, that he wasn't afraid of them at all. More and more pilots followed that example of having an individually painted craft, with markings or colours, that would identify the pilot to his wingmates. Lothar chose yellow, as he had been in a Dragoner (kavallery) Regiment, that had this colour. It seems, that after short time, nobody wanted to "stay behind" the Rittmeister's attitude. And actually, you won't recognise any colour too well from further away - they only appear, when you get closer.
  16. Just been at a website of the EADS - European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company. For all who didn't know it yet: http://www.eads.com/1024/de/eads/history/a...tros_D_III.html I found that photograph of the Albatros staffel interesting. Do you know, which Jasta they are, OvS, Paarma?
  17. There's some truth in it, Siggi. All fights above my home field, I have witnessed lots of ground fire. So an opponent might really be hit more by an Mgunner, than by myself. Has anyone here had a case, where scramble victories where confirmed?
  18. New to OFF?

Well, you can say a lot about the Kaiser (and as I'm not a Kaiser-fan, I'll forgive you), but he was NOT fat, as you see here. But what strikes me just now: when I imagine his beard tips cut off, he'd almost looked like - ahm - god, what was the name?...
  19. Okay, I see. (Another advice: write into the report all members of the other flight too.)
  20. Missing In Action

It appears, that it is just NOT a good idea to talk about politics in a forum like ours. Politiks is a field, where people definitely differ a lot, and it is a lot about opinions. I have sworn myself, never to react to any political debate anymore. I made that experience myself some time ago - in the end, the whole thread had to get closed (back at Sim Outhouse). Yes, to PM them is a good idea, Unc, will try that.
  21. Lou, how can you possibly get to the workshop, when you are at the "claims form", without loosing that?
  22. Missing In Action

Well, I understand, I think. Thought we where all grown up, to overcome such a mood after a while? But Bullethead has definitely not changed to RoF - I'm sure.
  23. Any one see this yet?

But, hey! Did you read the interview? "Over Flanders Fields" is named in it! "After Sierra's Red Baron 2 3D with it's marvelous sol campaign, Over Flanders Fields, and the forthcoming Rise of Flight, does Canvas Knights stand a chance in what is a well supported but aging engine?" And: "We admire the sheer volume of work that was put into Over Flanders Fields..."
  24. New to OFF?

Staffelfuehrer: "Where the heck have you been 'round, Leutnant Mahlo?! Did you get lost underway? Can't you pilot with compass and map?" Leutnant Mahlo: "Excuse me, Herr Major, but a German pilot cannot get lost, of course, after all the good training! I only did some reconnaissance after our normal patrol, in order not to waste our Kaiser's valuable fuel!" Man law rules!
