  1. Yes, would be pure luck to survive those. And the aces didn't do them.
  2. Yeah, warp should be okay. I often choose "optional Flight", when the first one is too long.
  3. Where are you flying, and when? I assume, mid-1916? Maybe a quiet sector, where you are. If you like it hot, choose an Escadrille near Verdun or Douai - Cambrai, since April 1917. That should get you on your toes - arh, wings! And as for the promotions - I have ever only been promoted twice; from Leutnant to Oberleutnant, and from Oberleutnant to Hauptmann (not even the same pilot).
  4. "New" FE2 at the RAF museum Hendon

Tonyo - this is in England? Great pictures, lots of interesting craft there! What type is the bright two-seater above?
  5. Can we shut up Ringo?

Liverpool dialekt is called "scouse", says my dictionary. But no more....
  6. spotting aircraft

I have put "re-center" on my joystick thumb button 3 - thanks for caring; but after Winder's announcement it should soon be history, I hope.
  7. spotting aircraft

Winder: ...defaults will be settable in workshops so all users can set up their own favourite FOVs... Hey, that's exactly what I need - so the view won't get reset each time I recenter my TrackIR view.
  8. Widowmaker is coming....

Yanks, beware - 'Crumpets' over America! (Lol!) Just wanted to recommend the Smithsonian Institute, Washington, but then I saw "no cities" - Whereever you will go - have fun and enjoy the time, Widowmaker!
  9. They knew how dangerous the "Komet" was. Some had exploded in test flights, and they had been told to wear special suits, cause otherwise the B-Stoff might react with their skin. They just didn't have much of a choice. In those days, you could not dare to say to your officer: "Herr Major - I'm very sorry, but I don't think this craft is secure enough. I must refuse obediance here and shall NOT fly this machine." They would have shot him. I got the names of the "petrols" wrong - it was "T-Stoff" and C-Stoff" - more about that craft here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIaUk4Mk2ko Much more dangerous for the bombers was the Me 262, propelled by two jet engines. But altogether, bombing raids don't seem to have really stopped industrial production much, nor did they force a political change by hitting the civilians - on either side. Bomber war so had incredible numbers of victims - civil citizens, bomber crew men, and interceptor pilots - without much success in exchange for all that bloodshed. May this video of a terribly shot-up B 17 bomber stand for this rather senseless aspect of warfare.

Did some flights without TAC at all. That was a very thrilling experience; I can only do that when I'm wide awake (which unfortunately isn't very often - Lol!). A completely different experience, and not necessarily more surprise attacks, as the enemy flights sometimes just pass in a distance. You may climb then, and see if you can sneak up behind them; and by pressing "+" you can zoom up to check what they are (binoculars). Exciting variation!
  11. A good "commercial" for the two-seaters, Rickitycrate; well documented with great pictures, and nice to read - thank you! Yes, so much left to try and do. I tried some two-seats, but only in QC to know them a little better. The Bristol fighter F2b was the most dangerous one I flew - really like a fighter to fly. After all the Jastas I still have to try, I will have a go on the Roland.
  12. Just visited NATURALPOINT / TrackIR website and saw, that the supported sims are not only listed, but many of them also have a demo video to click and watch. Could there be a better chance of getting noticed?
  13. Just found this monitor at German AMAZON - can anyone judge the technical details? http://www.amazon.de/LG-W2261VP-Widescreen...5866&sr=1-1

Hmm - you have the TAC ("Radar") on? Perhaps you have it set to show all targets? Press "T" until you see "aircraft" - then Ctr.+Shift+T, to set the distance you want it to work in. I have mine set to 4 miles, as that is the distance I can really see aircraft. An RE8 should NEVER get one of my beloved Albatros by surprise - NEVER! Lol!
  15. Hey, where was that? Munich? Lol!
  16. Geez - all these beauties! Sigh - so far the way to Dayton... The "Komet's" fuel was even worse - it had two tanks, for B-Stoff and C-Stoff I think to remember. They reacted, when they got injected together and got sprayed with water. Unfortunately, one of them also reacted with the pilot's body, if there was a leakage. And that happened some times. Thank you for those wonderful pics - and keep "our" fighters in good shape.
  17. Nothing to excuse for, Duce - those mixed emotions are a German identity problem. Just this evening, I saw that 4 German soldiers have got the "Ehrentapferkeitsmedaille" - the "Medal of Honour for Courage". They had saved other German soldiers from a burning vehicle, possibly under attack. It was the first time after the war, that this medal was given. Our politicians still deny, our soldiers where at war there. But what else could you possibly call it? They prefer the word "Kampfeinsatz" (combat mission). One Hauptfeldwebel who got the medal, pinned it down, requesting: "We would wish, that you care for us already BEFORE we have casualties - not only after." But officially we only have a defensive army - there to protect the Fatherland against offense. It is all very difficult to sort out, after WW2 and especially the holocaust, you know? All that will need much more time to change. So far, I was really surprised, that it was possible at all to make the movie "Der Rote Baron" in Germany - I had not thought, the time was right for it already. It flopped, by the way.
  18. The Me 410 was not as effective as in the video, as far as I know, but still impressive. I had almost sent a video about the Dornier "Pfeil" (Dornier Arrow), but being made in America or elsewhere in the English speaking world, it presented the Swastika, and very German military music, plus graphics, that altogether had style, which I don't feel good with. It is often so to me, that the German WW2 war machines (aircraft and tanks) in their whole appearance incl. the colouring, remind me somewhat of Spielberg's Tyrannosaurus Rex from "Jurassic Park" - I'm fascinated and have a goose-skin at the same time. And I wouldn't like to be their prey. Hope you understand my feelings.
  19. Your longest lasting pilot

Try the Triplane first - it's easier to fly, and you can get one with two guns; that rocks! The Camel is more challenging, but not as horrible to pilot as I had expected! You get to grips with her pretty soon, and great turn fighting plus two Lewis (?) guns is nice! She, or the Tripe, would be my choice for a longer British campaign.
  20. Well, your decision - I found it clearly visible: a "film stripe" icon behind the name of the sim. Meanwhile, I have visited YouTube again and put better tags to all my videos there, plus the name OVER FLANDERS FIELDS. Also, I put the web address www.overflandersfields.com in there too. Jammer's "Black Knight" video was also there - should be a good "commercial"!
  21. Aircfaft Stress Resistance

Hrmbbllmpf! Yes, zatt's lookink like sabotage - I have to let der Nupes dive away, cauz my wings would leave me ozzerwise! You ssink, ze Nupes wings will break too? Noo!! Zey don't!!! Butt it does not help zem - I always find zem again and make a sieve of zem vizz my twin Spandaus! Mmuahahahahahahaaaaa!!!
  22. Your longest lasting pilot

Haha! I see, you're flying German side, Duce!
  23. RL stuff??? Hey, didn't they even have a Focke Wulf 190 D9 in Dayton, Ohio? (So who said, there's only miles of corn?)
  24. Is this meant to be a real newsletter - in that case the devs would have to do it, as they know the news first hand. But if you want simmers to write about their experiences in the simulation and around, I would well write about flying and fighting turn devils and 'crumpets' in an Albatros. Scouserlad?
  25. Your longest lasting pilot

Duce and all - to keep it simple: A. madmen, hellboys and can't-let-out-a-fight type pilots better fly German side, cause you fly over own terrain at least B. the advanced fighter pilots, those who really can bring a whole flight back home, can fly the Entente side campaigns
