...ahem, arhhhm - a Brisfit, you said? - Ahhmm - you mean the Bristol fighter? the, ahh - Bristol F2b? The one with the grey nose, that can turn fight so well? Arrrmmm - oh, I just read on the board: Olham on leave for 14 days. Tch! What a pitty! I would have liked so much to clobber... Oh, the van is waiting!! See you later!...

themightysrc:I have, however, become increasingly cowardly in my tactics. Not only do I avoid unfavourable situations, but I probably also avoid more situations where there's parity Avoiding such situations, where you are not certain if you can win, is not cowardly, but intelligent IMHO. And only such intelligence would make you last throughout the whole war. And it won't even be enough- you'll also need a big portion of luck with it. Seeing you are a sergeant, and not an officer and gentleman, I forgive you for naming us "damned bosche". It would off course be below my dignity to duell with you. But I may take the time to send you to the mud next time you cross the lines with your funny two seater. (Lol!)
  3. Your longest lasting pilot

Exciting report, Duce - great fun to read. Being the "mad ram" I am, I would have taken on the Camels the first time - and later I would have had no one to witness my "grand deeds", once again. Lol!
  4. Thank you for the link and report, Dej - I had not known these details about Allmenroeder's death, and it is a horrible way to find your end, indeed - worse than any movie book author could have invented. I can hardly shake it off. Soldiers or pilot aces are rarely honoured here in Germany; even those of WW1. Their names may have been misused by the Nazis, but generally, it didn't seem to feel right after a second world war, which was started by the Germans, to honour military men - whether they where 'decent guys' or not. But you made me curious, and I googled for street names with aces in them. And I found this at the "Berliner Zeitung": http://www.berlinonline.de/berliner-zeitun...0093/index.html So, there are still some names left, even when they are almost 'hidden' in some cases. I also found a Ernst-Udet-Strasse. If anyone wants to google more, here's how to write German street names: 1. the full name version has to be written: first name-family name-Strasse 2. family name only version: family namestrasse in one word, like "Gonthermannstrasse"
  5. First Jimko showed his pics from the Shuttleworth Collection; now you announce another WW1 veteran airshow; and I realise, we seem to have very little like that here in Germany. In a friendly way I envy you. PS: but please send pictures!
  6. Inspired by Jimko, I searched and found a video with well shot pictures of the airshow with the Shuttleworth Collection. Some great aircraft in flight, among them a Pup, a Brisfit, an S.E.5a, and - a Sopwith Triplane! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBtY8LKGPEI...feature=related Enjoy!
  7. Hey, that's cool - three notches up the immersion!
  8. ...and a performance of (mostly) the S.E.5a - the high turn early on is great; she could change direction pretty quick that way.
  9. The lower picture of the S.E.5a shows her beauty well. If you have more of the Brisfit, that would be great. Thanks for sharing, Jimko!
  10. Dej, I'm just back from a fight against Tripes from 1 RNAS. It's damn hard to survive that in an Albatros DIII - they turn so much tighter than us. I lost all my flight members, and after having fired all my ammo, I had to make an emergency landing. Against a real, human pilot, I would not want to face it in an Alb. About the guns - you're right there, Hellshade. Firepower is my only advantage in the Albatros.
  11. Depends, Steve - if I hadn't had a chance to fight him really, cause out of ammo from another fight before, and he would then force me down, I might have used a gun or revolver to force him away from his craft, take his gun over if he had one, shot a hole into his tank and set it to fire. Then I would have started again and flown back to my side. I think it would have been "good sport" enough, as I hadn't done himself any harm. All this would only work, of course, if he doesn't come with his gun, too... Absolutely, Rickity, in my campaign flights, I really imagine to be right there, in 1917. And those flights, with a kill tally already there, I often get "sweaty hands" and hold my breath longer than the doc would allow! Lol!!
  12. Before, I had always rather zoomed out two notches by pressing "- minus", cause I had a better overall view around the wings section. Now, zooming in one notch by pressing "+ plus" makes everything look larger, closer. My wings around me are more impressive. But the best is: you really see distant specs of flights a lot better! Recommended - thank you, Creaghorn; good idea!
  13. Tricky Camels

In this case, the honour belongs to WomenFly2 - she posted it earlier. She comes up with great stuff quite often - although: I haven't seen her around here for quite some time. Hope she isn't too disappointed about the words to her RoF video?
  14. Well, the Fokker Dr.1 was INSPIRED by the Triplane - she was not a copy, but pretty different. So she had a much lesser wingspan. And it was an "instable" craft. Maybe more tricky to get used to it, but if you can fly her really, she is an outstanding turn fighter.
  15. Just did a review of my last mission, to check, what had really happened. Northeast of Arras, our flight2 (4 Albatros DIII) where jumped at by 5 Tripes. We took on the fight, but short after, 4 more Tripes appeared. I could really not care about opponents crashing, after I'd hit them - I tried to hit everyone a bit, to help my wingmates. But after some minutes, there was only wingman 3 left near me. I helped him by shooting one Tripe at fire, and off his tail. He in reverse, fired at another, attacking me from behind. But whilst I chased a new Tripe, two others shot him down. I thought to have downed 3 Tripes, before my ammo was out; and my claim was for 3 craft. Now I wanted to know - I had REALLY got 4 of them down. I also found out: my average rounds per burst count 45. I found it useful to know. Oh, and by the way: I had to make an emergency landing on the road Arras - Douai. Felt pretty realistic - such landings happened often.
  16. To my American Friends

Oh yes, Widowmaker and others had already mentioned that tons of posts ago. Not to forget "Wooster and Jeeves" (or similar?) Yeah, I like Hugh Laurie - he's getting better and better, I'd say. Here's "Blackadder - the final scene" (not without making us think I suppose...): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3V698JzqC0...feature=related And of course Widowmaker's favourite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ML1139cijVU...feature=related
  17. Tricky Camels

It was hard to do, Dej - really hard. But I want to do the Entente aircraft too - all of them. And so I started with a Camel (and downed my first 2 Albs; then a Tripe, and downed one more; then the SPAD, and downed one again). I don't know, if it will ever feel "natural" to me....
  18. Rickitycrate - you could always say, you just did adjustments to the "artificial horizon" (Lol!)
  19. Winder: Now should we make the proper pit scale/FOV the default setting? Well, if it even increases framerates, I'd say: yes. Cause it get's lost when I recenter my TrackIR, And I must always press "+" again. The new way, we would have only to zoom out, if desired.
  20. Aircfaft Stress Resistance

I just assume they (the AI) actually KNOW how to fly these planes. No, Lou, I thought I had mentioned it: Them and I where performing the SAME movements (as I was chasing him, I had to).
  21. Thanks for this, markl It seems to me, that the craft was better than it's reputation. And that wing problem was solved soon, as far as I read. The craft seems to have become a victim of decision already made and not taken back. I'd like to see it in BHaH one day, especially, as it would be the first craft American aces flew. And who knows - maybe it would proof greater than the difficult to handle SPAD?
  22. Removing text from pilot name?

Yes, I'd think, Dej got it understood. I'm always stunned about the quick exchange of ideas here, and how immediate you guys care and answer, Winder.
  23. Aircfaft Stress Resistance

Good morning, Unc - must be about 9.30 your side of the ocean. Yes, I see; so it happens to the "real pilots" easily. I want to repeat here: I'm not complaining about my Albatros wings breaking, when that is historically correct. I was only annoyed by the AI's wings NOT breaking in the same craft.
  24. Hey, Duce Just found a video about the Me 262 at the ILA 2006, that I saw flying. Here are also vids about a flyable Bf 109 G, and one about a Focke Wulf 190 D9. The latter showing one of those late war developments (and my favourite piston engine fighter), that seems to get restored somewhere in America (in Germany we would not show the swastika anymore) - not flyable yet, it looks. The choice of music to that one fits incredibly with the silly uniforms. I'm pretty sure, they used the wrong colour of cloth. Also is the craft not painted absolutely right; but well - great pics. Me 262 Bf 109 G (I suppose, a G4) Focke Wulf 190 D9 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=strKBh9otYc
  25. Aircfaft Stress Resistance

So the Nupe, when flown by a "real" pilot ingame, breaks up easily too? Then it may all be done right; they where fragile at their lower wings. It's only so annoying and unfair, that the AI Nupe and Albatros don't seem to have that problem, and so they always happily escape me with moves, they shouldn't be able to make. But I assume, it is impossible to change that for AI craft - otherwise they would have done so.
