Reversing the direction of a SPAD: 1. fly away from you opponent first; if necessary, dive hard - you will always climb back fast with that engine. Then, with good speed, and distance to your opponent, you CAN turn with the SPAD - only not so tight. 2. dive away steep from opponent, zoom back up and perform half a loop and half a roll But as you woudn't really like a head-on attack, 1. might be better, as you can make a wide turn in your safe distance, to pick another opponent for an attack. If you only have 1 DVII with a good pilot against you, you might as well fly off - you won't have a chance to get behind him. The picture shows, she can even do steep banks at high enough speed. But she couldn't turn tight with an Albatros or, even worse, a DVII, cause she would have to drop speed. And THEN she would stall more easily.

Do we have an Artificial Horizon in OFF?
Olham replied to Hauksbee's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
A veteran's advice here: make sure you always have SEVERAL artifical horizons with you. Due to the different pressure, temperature or godknowswhat, at higher altitude, the liquid seems to vanish totally and very suddenly! -
Photoshop question -- replace colour

Thanks for your Tipps, Ovs - so many ways possible. But you don't need to copy a choice into a new box always. Often it is enough to: 1. make a choice (by polygon lasso, or by "magic wand" or how you call it) 2. press "copy", and then "insert" - now the part is a new layer, but exactly in the right position. To change it, you only have to highlight the layer it's in (by clicking into the layer field of the layer-box; it should be blue now). Now your actions should only change this particular part. That's very useful, as you can see the comparison to the whole surrounding. You don't even have to smash it all down to one layer later; just save the PSD work, THEN reduce to one layer and save as BMP. This way, your layer-work is still open for changes or new skins. For making a choice with magic wand: This tool is extremely useful to collect all wooden fuselage. Try with an adjustment of 50 % first. When it collects too much, adjust to 30 %, if neccessary, reduce more. You will never get the whole choice you want in one touch - hold "shift", and touch the missing areas; until you have got all you wanted. If it should choose too much in, maybe the third touch, press the command for "back" (in Germany Ctrl.+Z, but yours may be different). Now only the last step is undone; adjust percentage lower in that box above, and continue. Hope this will help you all; I always found it very useful. Enjoy! Olham -
Steve: ...researching Australians who fought with RNAS at the moment... Best go to "The Aerodrome" site, click on "aces by nation", and look at the Aussies - there are several. Your late war German pilot would be flying an interesting chimera, as there was no official Albatros DVII. Either you fly an Albatros DVa, or a Fokker DVII ? Wish you much luck for fighting your way through the whole war - I would NEVER make it....

That was pure luck, Condor. Try that in a campaign fight, after just shooting down three opponents. If you then dare to loose these victories. The wings will break almost every time, when you try that.

Yes, let's better leave politics out of here. That's a topic, that dead certain will divide the best forum into war camps - and nobody here could seriously want that to happen.

How can I tell if my aeroplane is damaged?
Olham replied to JimAttrill's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Well, there are some craft in Germany. MBB have restored a Messerschmidt Bf 109 G, as they have Mercedes as a partner. So they got it even flyable, after rebuilding parts of that engine. There are some craft in Sinsheim, and most in Deutsches Museum, Munich (though I don't know which ones). On a big airshow south of Berlin, the ILA - Internationale Luftfahrt-Ausstellung, I even saw the rebuilt Me 262 flying! But many other craft are rather at the Smithsonian, like the Dornier "Pfeil" (forgot the number) with two piston engines - one pulling, the other pushing. It was neatly restored here in Germany, but then shipped back to America. Yes, the fear of Neo-Nazism may be a major reason, why we cannot show these war machines. After the holocaust, we find it very difficult to develop some "pride" for German war technology as much as other nations. It's easier for WW1 - here several nations where clashing and fighting a war which had to come, one or the other way. And I realise from looking at it, that the soldiers and pilots where pretty much the same on all sides. The famous "chistmas truce" is the best example for that. That's why I keep repeating again and again: they where not enemies - they where opponents. To me, an enemy can only be someone I know personnaly. But those young men where just sent into that thunderstorm of steel. -
Hey, Dej - and I always thought you crumpets didn't have any great skins! Good one!

Do we have an Artificial Horizon in OFF?
Olham replied to Hauksbee's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Not for me - it might be empty in a blink! -
Well, I think vision isn't any better in a Camel. But - of course! - the best vision you can get is in an Albatros!!!

As a Hauptmann and flight leader, I decide the flight path my way, if it is just too dangerous. What counts is the accomplishment of the mission, I say. I bring my boys back home, if I any can.

There is a saying: if you can't beat them - join them! (If they let you...) Doesn't always work. But yes, the influence of America on Germany is clearly visible. My personal favourite: "Dr. House" - a series I MUST see every week. And, hey! - there's even an Englishman in there! If that's not a good sign?

Yes, it's agreat idea! I wonder if the "Horizon" we have among the instruments, could be replaced by something like this. Clever, really! -
Though they always say that in the hands of an experienced pilot (if he lived that long) the Camel was just about the greatest dogfighter ever. Vell, zatt's vatt ze 'crumpet propaganda' sayz! But zey never tried ze Dreidecker! Camels can turn great to ze right, yes? Ze Dr.1 can turn great EVERYWHERE! Mmuahahahahahaaaa!!!!

How can I tell if my aeroplane is damaged?
Olham replied to JimAttrill's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Well, from WW2 you have more than the whole of Germany! For the S.E.5a: if that craft does look tiny already, how small must an EIII have appeared? Or even the very small Dr.1 -

How can I tell if my aeroplane is damaged?
Olham replied to JimAttrill's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yes, Stuka is for "Sturzkampfflugzeug" or "Sturzkampfbomber", which would be "dive bomber" in English. Flak = Flugabwehrkanone, and you may be right about WW2, cause there it was the notorious 8,8 gun, which was in the final days of the "1000-years-Reich" used as an anti-tank gun with good results. -

Perhaps you made the mistake to press "M" - magneto off? I did that once, confusing it with "map". -
SGCSG1 - be glad it wasn't me. I always carry a revolver with me on my sorties...

How can I tell if my aeroplane is damaged?
Olham replied to JimAttrill's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Jim, if you had Flak activity against you, a leakage in the tank might have been the reason. You can check this by pressing "H" (or Ctrl.+H, or was it Ctrl.+Shift+H ?) The you get a blue text with info data about your "health", and the amount of fuel left. Watch that - if it deminished fast, you have a leakage. The "warp-thing" happened to me often: entering warp with full throttle end with to little petrol for some (not all) players. So best enter warp with 65 - 70 %, not more. Also make sure, you take 150 - 200 % fuell of what the whole round trip would need. -
Well, you forgot the 2. world war, perhaps? But after that war, it seems the nations with a similar attitude have decided to rather co-exist on a peaceful level. Let us all hope, the lessons are learnt forever.

Herr Prop Wasche - with the SPAD it's like with all other tricky crates: doing the RIGHT things. Eddie must have bomed and zoomed, never turn-fought, and avoid nasty actions. Try that, and you should be able to collect hours and kills. For a turnfight-enthusiast it will be boring though.

Absloutely phantastic! Thanks!

Great news. Don't know, if you have varying cloud effects - I wouldn't expect it all to disappear completely, and I know, I shouldn't fly into a huge thunderhead cloud. Well, any adjustment to make flying through at least the outer parts of white clouds and hazes, will be fine for me. Will we have to find a registration number we had, when buying the DVD? (Cause I'm afraid, I may not have the mails anymore...?)
